It got worse for japan aztez .. allies went over to the attack !

Ground combat at Baker Island

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 13522 troops, 153 guns, 15 vehicles, Assault Value = 307

Defending force 498 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 15

Allied max assault: 147 - adjusted assault: 84

Japanese max defense: 8 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 84 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
3128 casualties reported
Guns lost 15

Allied ground losses:
5 casualties reported

in just 2 days the 1st Naval landing force was utterly destroyed .. subs now heading
for tarawa and apnanmena <sp> as looks like a lot of cripples there for now.

I failed to slip a bit of fuel into baker though

Sub attack at 94,93

Japanese Ships
SS I-21

Allied Ships
LST LST-17, Shell hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

PT boats now out of juice .. ill try and send an AK to rendevous and supply at sea.

that SSI21 is just out of ASW range for my elite (85) b25's and i need the 4E ones on anti shipping
for now ..

up north SS wahoo alone sank 3 AP's today .. happy crew returning to midway for R&R..

Overall the north is looking much better now. recoverered from the suprise and now he's stuck
at attu with no hope of taking it .. and his evac will be very tricky ..

Operation earl Grey hits Sabang tomorrow ! .. no recon and no clue as whats there..F5's fly today
and 11 Wildcat 2's from CVL Hermes covers the landing while the cats on victorious cover
the back up fleets 180 miles West of the target. so far still not spotted afaik . and i suspect his main CV's are up north although i know he has 2-3 CVL/CVE in the dei which may be a problem
if hes close enough .. again time will tell.

China is going to try to capture Pakhoi on the coast in a week or so as i have forced him
back into canton the rail line is open for supply.

Burma ! well tuang gui fell today

Ground combat at Taung Gyi

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 13129 troops, 92 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 372

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Allied max assault: 362 - adjusted assault: 227

Japanese max defense: 0 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 227 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Taung Gyi base !!!

All allied combat formations to take up position adjacent to the japanese and may try
for a bulldozer apporach to drive on rangoon .. if it fails then envelop ( i have left sufficient
combat forces in bases to stop any para drops i hope). I'd hate to lose mandalay and all
my a/c to that [;)]. tried to take a piccie and buggered it up .. sorry.

wish me luck with sumatran operation ..

wish me luck with sumatran operation ..

Good luck with Operation Earl Grey! [:)]

Do you plan on taking more Sumatra bases shortly? I'm considering a similar op in my '43 game but am afraid my opponent will be able to shut down my AF or AFs quickly.

You also seem to be doing better in the air over Burma than I am. Do you have any particular successful actions? How much on-map training is your opponent doing?

BTW, from earlier in this thread, check your Kiwi Kittyhawk squadrons - I believe they will upgrade to Corsairs in a non-PDU game.

Thanks for the tip i'll check it right away !

1st up .. bonus submarine action, she apparently badly damaged
massive explosive damage helped !
Sub attack at 67,58

Japanese Ships
CV Taiho, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Tokitsukaze
DD Yugumo

Allied Ships
SS Peto

Joe isnt doing much in the way of training, just some zeros in the DEI . he's not abusing
the system at all and im not using the allied bomber supply trick too much either, just enough
so they dont crash all the time .. about 60 ish esp the dutch replacements , awful.

Regarding the air over burma , i believe he could have fought it a lot harder than he did,
he;s just capping Rangoon and has stopped LR capping a while back so im free to hammer his ground forces. Allied range is a major problem as the P40's have to take the brunt of longer
than 2 hexes escorting roles but they have seen little action of late and some are now
very highly experienced (av mid 70's experience). Im not ground attacking with my fighters
either so no free training , i did do some a while back to train up some very green sqds to
about 60 but stopped there.

RE Sabang .. he may be able to close it we will see. according to recon and the landing
its lightly held and should fall tomorrow to a 3 brigade attack ( british, indian and canadian).
Mines were an issue however and i'm very glad i sent in a dedicated MSW group as well
as using MSW (min2) for escorts.

im going to try out skip bombing with the chinese b26's tomorrow .. might be fun.

all in all 4 more AP's went down today. 2 new kills and 2 ones sinking mid ocean
from previous damage.

With a LOT of american ships getting upgrades in april i'm leaving fleet units at major ports
with AR support .. sydney/aukland and west coast mainly. PH is a real backwater these days [;)]

chinese adventurism at pakhoi and (the one north of it) are looking good .. very weakly held
and a couple more days bombing and time to try and take the port 1st. then cut him off from supply
and then liberate the next city. it's all going to plan .. evem my little army in the north
is defending itself gallantly

Ground combat at 52,22

Allied ground losses:

Guns lost 6

Fully supplied from russia it seems [&:], must be communists [;)]

I've made yet another cock up ! although not a major one (yet) the Base forces/engineers and fighters that were supposed to head to sabang aftyer it fell have been left behind in the indian ocean, my excuse is that there were a LOT of fleeing small TF's heading to karachi from his
nasty ambush off java and this group got mixed in with them .. its only 4 days out so not a major
problem .. UNLESS KB shows up ! dakaotas moved to andaman to fly in the engineers from there as
planned so i will get ENG troops there by hook or by crook. wellies replace dive bombers too to help soften up sabang before attacking. Give me 4-6 days alone in sumatra and i will make it a fortress.
However i doubt japan will oblige.

Sabang falls

Ground combat at Sabang

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 12444 troops, 183 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 382

Defending force 374 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 23

Allied max assault: 229 - adjusted assault: 150

Japanese max defense: 22 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 150 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Sabang base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
261 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
24 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

japanese 1st paras defending here oddly enough. 57 air support landed so P40's from andaman
and beaufighters from ceylon flown in .. 4k supply so far.

He's flying some serious japanese air strikes though. fortunately hes based betties in a
level 3 AF [:D].. only georgetoen is a level 4(sally) close by. songhia (thailand) is level 3 (bettie).

Overall in 2 days of damn mines and bombers i will lose about 10 AP's and 5 MSW/Pg's ( some
still floating and unloading but wont last long). the rest retiring at full speed. CV Victorious and
CVL Hermes orderered back to colombo at flank speed. along with the SC and ASW forces. additionally
the Transports carrying a/c are too valuable and ordered to retire. I can make up the Eng
shortfall from andaman which i'd moved some 50 dakotas into yesterday. some 8 4500 size AK's
are split up and ordered to sabang to unload .. even if i only get 1-2 k more its worth 8
AK's imo . from here on out i will set up a datoka route for new troops and supply , with
andaman at size 4 its perfectly do-able.

In a nasty suprise he alo sent in some Surface raiders .. namely the ASW group on yesterdays map

Night Time Surface Combat, near Sabang at 19,41

Japanese Ships
DD Satsuki
PG Eiko Maru
PG Shinko Maru #1
PG Shosei Maru
PG Tosho Maru
PG Unkai Maru #1

AP Dardanus
AP Empress of Asia
PG Fritillary
PG Genista, Shell hits 5, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
PG Jasmine, Shell hits 18, and is sunk

nasty ..

also

Day Time Surface Combat, near Sabang at 19,41

Japanese Ships
DD Kuri, Shell hits 3
DD Tsuga, Shell hits 4, on fire
DD Hiyodori, Shell hits 10, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
DD Alden, Shell hits 14, and is sunk
DD John D. Edwards, Shell hits 6, on fire
AP Manunda
AP Empire Chivalry
AP Empire Tamar
AP Koolama
AP Neptuna
AP Van Cloon

Allied ground losses:
12 casualties reported

DD Alden had been hit by sally bombs earlier and was already a wreck. John D Edwards performed
brilliantly defending the convoy and hitting back hard at the DD's. Swordfish and barracudas (1st combat) later sank 2 DD's and 3 Pg's for no loss.

Mine sweeping efforts at sabang have been very heavy e.g

TF 1149 encounters mine field at Sabang (19,41)

Allied Ships
MSW Patna
MSW Cuttack
MSW Cochin, on fire
MSW Lark
MSW Quail
MSW Tanager
MSW Bittern
PG Warrego, Mine hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

Warrengo actually hit 3 mines in one turn ! . must have been bounced from one to the next.
remains were reported landing in singapore harbour minutes later [;)]. it does appear
though that all the mines have been cleared so the single and small supply AK groups might make it.
CL Enterprise and 4DD's are to perform SC night duty then scamper away to hopefully allow the
transports to get under the CAP before daybreak. their escape is far from certain however.

In China Pakhoi is to be shock attacked tomorrow !

Ground combat at Pakhoi

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 36358 troops, 244 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1138

Defending force 5176 troops, 16 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 102

10-1 should be enough i hope. though prepping is low.

also during 2 days the chinese AF hit japanese ASW forces sinking 3 PG's [:D] and missing
2 APD's [:@]. never mind ..
e.g

Day Air attack on TF, near Pescadores at 47,43

Allied aircraft

Airbase hits 4
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 8

nows its a size 2 . the F4's and kittyhawks removed and 72 P38's and 24 Corsairs lie in wait for
him tomorrow .. Speaking of corsairs , thanks KD the NZ ones upgraded fine and dandy. all
however in luganville which is a bit remote nowadays. but i have a few plans for here soon.

I'd kill to have some in SE Asia ( might sail some round now im thinking about it) spits range is
horrible and the bombers got caught badly today from mandalay as the main fighters were in akyab
and rained out for 2 days .. whoops .. not too many losses but morale went tits up over
2 days of this !

Day Air attack on 21st Mixed Brigade, at 31,32

Japanese aircraft

B-17E Fortress: 2 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
175 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

thats just 1 of 5 similar raids !

looks worse that it is however and all losses can be made good although the pilot
skill will suffer a bit. Ive sent the lightnings back from china to mandalay for
later escort use.

well thats todays update , and i leave you with the valiant J.D Edwards fighing it out
with japan off sabang harbour.

the pressure on the japanese front line.

Subs on steroids! [X(] Battleships, carriers, APs... is there something they don't hit in your game?! Come on, spill the beans: what are you doing different? My subs are trying to win the war by exhausting the Japanese depth charge reserves.

Baker, Sabang, the Aleutians, Burma... looks like you're on a roll.

no idea why my subs just got so effective .. well i found a lot of damaged AP's from the attu attack in that northern jap port wheich he hadnt built up to a size 3 .. whoops .. good for me though . 2 had 2 choices . sink at sea of try and repair flooding and run then , but i;d placed 3-4 subs there and sent in new ones after thier ammo ran out.

for the central pacific i just send them randomly to be honest.

It's creative thinking without CV support and never losing mandalay that helped a lot in burma. i.e he withdrew. Sabang is possibly an adveture too far .. time will tell but it can become a huge (6) airfield .. too far from the oil but as someone said singapore becomes a target as does the entire malayan coast. I kind of hope he tries to re-invade as i took some CD guns with me and dedicated atry units too. would get bloody. ( all 100% prepped fyi).

looks like he may have a small CV raid group approaching my islands north of luganville .. max LR cap effort over the large transport group off loading as we speak .

Sabang now over 30k supply .. well into safety margins on this front , i'm very pleased by this.

piccie tomorrow promise

PS .. subs sank 2 tankers[:D] and 2 PG's recently too [:D][:D]

im sending round to perth then to ceylon 16 Corsairs (NZ). on a lone 18kt fast AK.. fingers crossed. Im toying with ending over 72 lightnings too as i could do with range units as well .. none
actually spare right now though.

Canton is a bit too well defended imo .. chinas a bit of a stalemate right now .. big adance on canton could cut off a huge chunk of my army if he comes south along the rail from the central cities.

Sabang at 49k supply now ! .. AV support keeping up with the AF biulding (3) now. really need
some more fighters here though .. and im really short on any that can fly there .. i'll load up
some hurris and spits onto AK's and try and sneak them in ,, v risky though.

British keep his ground foces in burma under the hammer

Mandalay is really supply short now ! very very odd as it had plenty when the troops
were stationed here ???? [&:]. daks and even bombers flying in supply daily and its
still not enough. Ive moved out some 100 bombers to akyab ( size 6) and it hasnt
overloaded the af .. also got some beaufighters LR capping my advance inf units .
they were hit ( ineffectually) by sallies with oscar esort today.

Main thing is 1st APril next turn ! at long bloody last .. massive refit program and
the P40N in production which i am really looking forward to in all honesty.

In the South Pacific tarawa is looking heavily defended .. so the marines have changed prepping
for apanmana and makin .. tarawa will be bypassed i think .. need some CV's for further
advances here though . Baker is completely secure now fyi.

I'm not 100% sure what to do next ? any comments / advice ? yes when sabang is completely
secure singapore will be a nice juicy target but not yet. he appears to be heavily
mining the mayalan coast for some reason [;)].. my subs keep missing them .. grr.

also looks like his fighters over timor have been moved . so i expect a HUGE attack on
sabang sometime soon . although range will be an issue for his newer model tonys and tojos
and thats a relief ..

anyway .. thats all for today

100's in cooktown badly harassing new guinea but would be a waste
moving them to derby/darwin just to bomb timor as i dont have any shipping here for an invasion anyway.

That said i am loading up and sailing some BF's to those wee islands NE of Darwin. could be useful forward fighter bases should i want to later on go for the north of new guinea or Lautern.

48 B24's in darwin just to keep him honest with supply ships to timor ( which i seem to never see untill they start unloading) , then they get hammered with hudsons as well. boomerang 2's are great escorts with a range of 8 !

mediums in derby can reach koepang (just) . may well have a go at damaging some facilities if he's gone ( he used a base further back to LR cap koepang which is a very good move imo. )

Not sure i mentioned this before but he was waiting for my PM invasion with the entire KB a couple fo months ago, i'd been spotted i transit ( unknown to me) then his emilys doing recon on townsville nailed down the US Cv's .. it was his recon that scared mo off doing the operation which could have been a complete disater , rather glad i scrubbed that one . Sabang was a complete suprise to him fortunately and he's done very little about it since.

proper update coming when the turn arrives .. any requests for screen shots ?

OK piccies galore ( well enough to make some sense of the important theaters.

1st up Sabang defenders/builders.

I am loading/manouvering a second wave of shipping for here now. CV Victorious and CVL hermes will again provide mid ocean cover. spits and hurricanes being sent down along with extra BF support and engineers. the usual replensihmen/asw/SC will protect the Cv's and transports.

second piccie is SW pacific . note the number of seebees in valioko<sp> and its still taking
months to upgrade.

Side note . the NZ hudsons i have not upgraded to venturas ( for obvious reasons) i discovered
that after the useless ventura they become B24's . so all upgraded in luganville today ( 48iirc).

I am collecting subs to do a large landing with engineers on rennel island soon. Gamey ? i dont know ( about 10-12 subs acting as a sub surface tokyo express).

otherwise its dead dull round here as the forward bases are taking MUCH longer to build
as i originally thought.

3rd piccie , the aleutians .

Building up nicely here but the japanese sub presence could be a problem as i am dead
short on any kind of escort vessels up here. however US DD's upgraded in the west coast
will accompany a SC group based on an old (slow) BB is planned to come up for support
in the near future.

He's going to have a hell of a time rescuing his men off attu is even if he sends KB in for air
support. its a japanese graveyard and soon to become an allied live fire training ground
for fighters and medium range A20/A26 groups flying from siska.

B24's hit him from the main allied base in Adak.

A second RCT has been flown in just in case . and supply being hauled about up here
without any interfereance from japan yet , his subs are in the wrong places for intercepts
for now. and no glens spotted either. allied ASW is predominanty PB4Y based as the new units
come along with high experience (70-80).

However i did venture a raid over japanes most northern base to disrupts his port building
efforts. wasnt much to shout about for either side. although the allied took several
damaged a/c they all returned and were fixed up smartly.

4th piccie is an oddity which confuses me totally

the pilot replacement pools .. named pilots are high in number but dont go down
even when i manually request pilots .. dont want to lose them come the next
patch and absolutely no idea why some are so high ??[&:]

As you can see subs are again doing a mighty fine job. oddly joe seems to be using a
high amount of single unescorted merchants and i've been placing subs in harbour hexes
and while risky it's been quite rewarding. although central pacific is a dead zone for
most of my subs apart from the Taiho and 1 tanker ive hit nowt all year with about 12
dedicated US radar equipped subs randomly scattered between tokyo and truk/kwajelian.
making a triangle if you can imagine that.

He's taken to bombing sagang by night . utterly ineffective i might add too.

Night Air attack on Sabang , at 19,41

Japanese aircraft
Ki-45 KAIa Nick x 31

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-45 KAIa Nick: 8 damaged

Rangoon airfield got a visit today and much to my suprise its been emptied !

most odd. i think i will leave the oil/res here alone for allied use after i capture the place.

forgot to stand down the PM bombers today but even tired they flattened PM airfields
once again

With no japanese air attacks on sabang in daylight the allied beaufighters swopped hats
and became shipping attack aircraft which the excel at imo . the japanese ML effort
round malaysia has been dealt a hefty blow

ML Ukishima, Bomb hits 1
ML Ashizaki, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage SUNK

Back to Cap duty today though in case he decides to come and visit.

That about covers todays action and i am pleased to say that the P40N is now in production
hoorah ! .. badly needed imo esp in china as the I16 and especially the I15 are useless.
also it will free up some much needed P40B and E a/c when i get enough to upgrade some.

righty ho. comments welcome and i'd especially like some thoughts about the pilot pools .

VSWG .. yup ive set some attacks on koepang with B25's also lautern will get a visit as
secondary targetting for hudsons and B24's from darwin. shame the useless A26's in darby
have such a short range. I am tempted to upgrade some more beauforts to beaufighters
but i'd miss the torpedo dreadfully even though not much is going on off N australian
waters right now.

bye bye for now
