First off, what are the Soviets going to do about the breach in the south and the Dvina river line in the north?

In the meantime Bomber Command launches a successful, 3-point hit, Lancaster raid on Berlin and in the Mediterranean the RAF start to get some serious equipment into the theatre...[:)]

In the Soviet Union, the Russian save their aircraft in the north for what is to come, but try a ground strike against German Armour in the south....and its a devastating blow dished out by the Red Air Force!!

Satisfied that the German thrust is, at least temporarily, blunted in the south, the Soviets look north and set about re-arranging their forces in the north and centre. The decision is made to trade more space for time - abandoning Minsk but keeping the Dvina river line intact..

The Germans launch two ground strikes - one against the hex east of Minsk and one northeast of Chisnau. The Soviets contest the bomber in the north, but there are still no fighters from either side, available on the southern front.
The Soviets roll a 5 (DX) and the Germans must choose whether to destroy the fighter or bomber. They take a chance and choose the fighter (the pilot is saved).
The Germans roll an 18 which aborts the Russian fighter. Sadly for the Germans, the ground strike fails in both hexes....

Undaunted by the lack of ground strike, the German forces press ahead with the two risky, low-odds attacks...
Te first attack in the south is a total balls up - the Germans have insufficient bomber strength to change the odds - and worse - they have miscalculated the mechanised strength of the Soviets. It is the latter who have choice of table. They choose Assault and.....
...its a 17. Both sides lose 2 units and most of the Germans are disorganised. That is not brilliant, but it could have been a whole lot worse.....

Onto the northern attack and the same problem - the Soviets get the choice!! I cannot see why this is - Non-City, Clear Terrain, not attacking across a fort hexside and the Attacker has more Armour....
I am assuming this is a bug and so choose the Blitz table.
The die is rolled.....
.... its a 7. The attacker loses a unit and all are disorganised... Bad news.

Back to the Allies. The CW are itching to get the Royal Navy back in the Italian coast. However they will wait for the arrival of some FAA fighters first.
The Hampdens take the opportunity to fly a Strategic bombing mission - and take out another production point - this time in Leipzig.

There is no tempting target for the Soviets to ground strike. Ideally the Soviets want to push back to form a line Odessa-Dnepropetrovsk, but Koniev is disorganised so that scuppers that plan. Instead, the Soviets try a bolder idea and form a line anchored on Chisnau and heading northeast.
The Soviets also take the opportunity of placing a fighter in the south.

The Germans have one ground strike target this turn as they switch their attention to the forest hex southeast of Riga. The Soviets do not intervene given the number of fighters available to the Luftwaffe. They were right not to bother - the 5-quality Stuka couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle [8|]

That leaves the Germans with one possible attack in the south against Chisnau. But they cannot even get 3:1 odds so its a no-go [&:] Frustration reigns supreme at OKH.
The Allies then pass with everyone and bring the turn to an end...
