Too bad you didn't have torpedo bombers for that attack or at least one of those BBs would probably be sunk! Honestly I don't really bother using the Vengence DB at all given its awful range and sub-par armament. Where are the British torpedo bombers that you start with? You should already have a couple of them in India. In my experience I have always been able to sink some major Japanese warships with those "obsolete" torpedo bombers when I catch the Japanese not being careful.

If I recall, unit withdrawals have pretty much taken care of the early torpedo bombers.
 
Where I caught them, I think would have been out of biplane torpedo range anyway.  A good 1,000 lb. AP would have done wonders.
 
I'll have my new Beauforts up and running in the south in a week or so.  They're coming from Aden on an AKV, so they'll be ready to go.
 
He may start LRCAPping them after this -- I would.
 
The USA 41st Division just unloaded at Karachi, so I have more muscle for my central attack.

And this is even with all the strays that didn't make it. He's been hitting my guys south of Jubbulpore accumulating damage. I'm about to cut loose the guys at Nagpur. Tomorrow, I'm moving two B-17 squadrons to daytime strike. The two P-38F squadrons and one P-40K squadron at Nagpur will sweep Raipur. Hopefully, I'll bleed the pool a bit.

There's been activity near Baker Is. At least part of KB has been lurking. The previous day, some BBs were spotted at Tabiteuea. The guys at Canton are up to strike if they come near. Everyone's up to strength there.

CF's moved bombers to Raipur and are hitting my guys. I'm setting up a massive airfield raid from Delhi next turn. Maybe a sustained effort will shut it down for awhile. Fighters are getting light for me right now, but a Schweinfurt style raid can pretty much bust through the door. I have more B-24s inbound to help. I wish my USAAF bomber pools would fill up a bit.

My troops in the main thrust reach Raipur.
 
After my bombardment this coming turn, I'll be able to see is numbers there.  All I know is that at least 40,000 troops are present.  I doubt they're all support.
 
I'm slowly grinding his armor down to the east of there.  He has lots of fighters present now, so I'm having trouble bring in my own strikes.  I'm feeling I've underestimated his presence in the country.  If it turns into a slog, I'll start pulling everyone back out.  I'm confident that even If I can't advance, I can still protect what I have from him.  I'm pretty convinced at this point that he's happy with the status quo right now, keeping his lines at Raipur in the west and Benares in the north.  Supplies have been a serious issue for me, too.  HI doesn't seem to be able to support things enough.
 
My nearly full ZP squadron in San Francisco is being shipped to East US for eventual shipment to India.  I need extra help for ASW there near Karachi.  A 2nd blimp squadron has arrived and another is on the short list.  The first squadron got in some hits early in its patrols, so I have some confidence in them.  Pools are filling at like one a month.  Two breeds of PB4Y will start showing up pretty soon, which will help.  I'll probably detach one to India also.
 
In an effort to generate a "feel good" mission, I'm sending a bunch of AK/APs, plus three battleships and friends to Seattle.  I'm looking at a grab of Adak in the Aleutians.  I have troops in the states I can dedicate to this.  I may stage out of Dutch Harbor and use some troops there also.  So far, I have one USA regiment and two artillery units and follow-on base forces for this.  This whole war has been boxed in fairly tightly, so I'm looking for some area which will budge.  I doubt KB will head up north for this, but in the off chance they do, the Gilberts will be mine.  Per Ed doctrine, lots of TFs will be involved for bombardment, ASW and minesweeping accompanying the invasion itself.  That'll help dilute any air power which may be present.

My updates have been spotty just because not a lot has happened from day to day.  Most of the air is happening in China -- a place I'd like to forget even exists right now.  We are trading occasional blows in India, but it's fairly light overall and limited to one or two locations.  That, and I feel like I'm talking to myself.

Question about your possible Aleutian op: this late in the year are you worried about the weather? I guess it's supposed to be stormy in the Aleutians just about all the time, but I would suppose it's much worse during the winter. I'm just wondering if you have to make any adjustments or allowances for bad weather.

I'm not certain how that translates.  I know ships get beat up more.  I'm assuming troop losses will probably spike.
 
Either way, this isn't happening overnight, so I can probably wait 'til spring.  I'd like to get one of my imminently incoming recon Lightning squadrons in place there to count heads on his side.
 
Who knows... maybe I'll end up winning the war from the north.

Well I think that staging troops well within range of enemy patrol planes is generally a bad idea. If you stage out of Dutch Harbor CF will see this. What does recon/intel say about what is present in Adak? Also, if you move on Adak you should really get bombers flying out of Unmak to support this so you can shut down the air base. If you can shut down the air base and devote a few CVEs to the operation then the KB will HAVE to show up to stop it. And as you say this could open up things in the Gilberts. Just be sure you have an OP ready to go at the same time.

Well it sounds like your troops haven't been spotted yet. The only way you're going to get this to work is to capture Katherine by surprise (or Daly Waters), turn it into a real base, fly in supply, and base fighters there. If you can't put fighters there Japanese will pulverize your column from the air with 2E bombers. And it is going to be a very very very long retreat to get out of harms way so if this goes badly. Which is why I believe this move needs to be in conjunction with a seaborne attack so the Japanese cannot concentrate exclusively on stopping the overland advance.

All in all, I think you need to think you need to worry less about being "boxed in" the Pacific do more to grind the Japanese in India. India is the best place for you to fight right now so I'm a bit confused why you are considering "pulling everyone back out" of there. India is still the lowest hanging fruit of all the strategic targets right now and its a great place to make the Japanese invest significant supply.

Well, he never took Daly Waters, which helps. I think Katherine is minimally held by a regiment or two. As I get near, I'll start an offensive with my B-17s at Normanton.

Japanese scum... I had some PBYs at Karachi less than optimally placed with regard to search arcs, which is probably why I didn't see them. My RN battlewagons are enroute to try and catch them, but I'm not holding my breath. It's not like they've been busy anyway, bottled up at Bombay. I'll have to make it SOP to use them to escort any major convoy enroute to Karachi. I lost the Libs and a flak unit out of this. I was more concerned shipping supply to India with them. I have an extremely good and extremely aggressive commander in charge of the TF. (Somerville?)

I think I have enough of an AV advantage to try again. They're shocking next turn. If I beat them, they'll move west to Raipur from their rear.

Elsewhere, a Hurricane recon squadron at Karachi upgraded to recon Spitfires. Very good range on this plane.

I'm seriously considering pulling troops and aircraft from Suva and New Zealand to somewhere more useful. I'm not sure where I'd go with them yet, and I don't want to move them just for the sake of moving them. I could always use them instead of the units at Pearl for the Gilberts. Noumea is a possibility. Three fleet carriers and 6 CVEs could probably shut them down, but I'd probably need a ton of troops. Sangamon just arrived today with a flyable airgroup of Wildcats and Avengers. I think one more is due soon. I didn't want to before, but I'll entertain a move up the Solomons. I have plenty of grunts in the immediate region to support this, and can move plenty of LBA in quickly.

The other mob to the east is struggling to get out of the jungle yet.

A boatload of flak and base/engineer units are shipping out from Cape Town. It may help with his constant airstrikes at Raipur.

Why are you still launching shock attacks here? It was understandable when the Japanese had 1000 AV but now they have 4x that. If you lose Chungking it's only a matter of time before the rest of China falls; its the one city you really can't afford to lose as without it you won't spawn anymore Chinese hordes. If it happens you are going to be faced with the very unenviable position of the Japanese being able to redeploy out of China before you have put substantial pressure on the Japanese. It's going to be very very difficult to push forward in India if the Japanese have redeployed out of China into India. Luckily that will take some time to happen so it's important to make good progress in early 43 in India.

At Pearl, I now have 7 CVEs there, with another due in 6 days from now. I could probably throw my weight around a little, if I wanted. After my Adak adventure, I'm highly tempted to take a shot at Noumea, using the forces I have locally. They've been a real pain with my convoys to Australia, and when I get careless, like I sometimes do, they'll hit some freighters. I'm fairly convinced that all the intel warnings about landings in Oz and NZ are pure unfiltered BS.

I took my latest shot at Raipur. Not too disastrous, with the result at 1-2 odds. This may play out like my eastern battle, and I'll just have to wear him down. I've probably made supplies an issue, entering the hex at both ends. I pre-empted this with air raids. I'm not happy with the losses, but I did do some damage. A USMC and a UK tank unit each are enroute from Nagpur, and I'll wait 'til they arrive before taking another shot. More flak is on the way too. He did less damage to me this turn, and I'm guessing the increased AA is making a difference, despite not shooting them down wholesale. If I jus chip away, I'll probably push it over the top.

That's a bloody battle at Raipur. Don't think you have enough to win but you can wear down the Japanese. First side to bring substantial reinforcements here will win the battle.

As for heavy losses, the Ki-44 can put down a a fair number of bombers with their 20 mm cannons. The heavy flak there doesn't really help either. Certainly the results of the battle don't justify those losses; very few casualties from the air and I doubt disruption was a factor either. There are simply some times when air support just isn't viable as its too costly.

What's the map look like these days? What's the significance of Raipur? Both of you are heavily invested in it.
