LST.... wondering if these interesting looking ships that Ed is using to rescue his soldiers belong to the Irrawaddy Flotilla? I've found some references to it and they appear to have the names of vessels which my hunters are locating. Below is a picture I found of PS Japan taken in 1904. I assume it would have been one of the many in the fleet that was destroyed after the British evacuated from Rangoon in the face of the Japanese advance. Well done on representing these vessels in the mod (I am right that they are part of your mod?). As a result I am certainly gaining a little insight into the real war in Burma.

Below is how the more important of the victorious Japanese units stood at the end of the Battle of Moulmein. You can see just how many disabled squads they were nursing along. Once the attrition started in earnest the disabled squads weren't a factor to worry over.

The battle was also a great experience boost too. This is their current levels before taking on reinforcements.

One strange piece of intelligence today. A day after HMS Valiant is report as active the sunk ships table reports Valiant as lost today at 220,75 just off shore from San Luis Obispo. Is it possible that the patched-up battleship may have succumbed just short of Pananma? I’m doubtful but an interesting report, nonetheless.

Thank you. It was an amazing opportunity presented to me. I did wonder, when I cooked up the venture, how likely it would be that the Allies would continue to position themselves in such a way advantageous to my Ninjas. Turned out to be a close run thing with reinforcements to cover Moulmein located and decimated at sea just before they threw the proverbial spanner once ashore. I've read a fair bit about how the land warfare aspect of this game is about positioning and ability to outflank. I shall have to await games end to divine Ed's thinking at the time but I think I managed to pull off a reasonably sneaky naval outflanking. The whole operation ultimately cost me a handful of transports, 3 light cruisers and a minesweeper and in exchange removed thousands of Allied troops, sank plenty of Commonwealth shipping, unlocked the keys to Rangoon and opened up the, so far vacant, Irrawaddy valley. Plenty now for me to contemplate on how to best use those highly skilled Ninjas.

Yes, those ugly-looking ships [note to myself - must downsize the ship art] belong to the Irrawaddy Flotilla. Art file taken from RHS mod with kind permission of Sid after I found out he has had the same idea and already had art files. However I did my own research so the Irrawaddy Flotilla ships and stats are different in my mod and in RHS. Historically, the river craft of the Irrawaddy Flotilla retreated upriver when Rangoon fell and were scuttled when the Brits got pushed back into India. Your opponent has evacuated them - I wish the game would restrict coastal and river craft from venturing into the high seas, or only at a high risk of getting sunk, like the "Trireme" in early versions of Civilization.

Have to agree that those icons are wierd looking things. The photo I found of Japan suggest they are a far more elegant vessel than the icon suggests. They do indeed look they would not relish anything other than the river work they were designed for. It is a sobering exercise to reflect upon all that is lost in war. Not just the horrendous loss of life but so much that existed pre war and would never be seen again. It must have been heartbreaking to see so many fine vessels come to such a sad end after the retreat. Can't be critical of Ed evacuating the Irrawaddy Fleet. We have no house rule to forbide it. From a gaming perspective I have to say I was happy he used them. Whilst they are small fry in VP terms they are easy to sink as they don't react well at all to a torpedo or one or two shells. The bonus of course is to catch them with troops on board. Such a desperate position to be in.... Packed on board those vessels with IJN wolves and eagles intent on their destruction.

Yes I am guilty of wandering through the DEI at a ridiculously leisurely pace. I'm currently doing a day or two confined to hospital (all good) and will give you a run down of the oil centres when I get back home.

Didn’t think this through and sent the bombers in at 8000’ and they were shredded by flak. As usually the reported figures are way below what was lost. The Ki-21-IIa were particularly hard hit with 8 pilots listed as lost.

Figures for the top oil producing centres in the Empire on 1 January 1943. Palembang was acquired in perfect condition. Magwe was another prize without damage (I am awaiting the inevitable bombing raid and have packed the place with fighters and AA). The Allied engineers did a reasonable job at Miri and Brunei and to date I have not spent any supply on repair. As it is I am having a hard enough time supplying the Home Islands. Your bottleneck mod is very good at putting on a pinch when it comes to keeping the home furnaces burning.

The steady march of the red hexes continues in Burma. Supply to the forces entrenched and awaiting the command to attack the Allied stack is coming at a trickle. A convoy is approaching Rangoon with almost 20 000 supply and hopefully enough will get through to make an attack feasible.

As for Allied forces in the Irrawaddy valley. Recon suggests that the Allies have next to nothing behind the main forces which were situated at Rangoon. I shall keep on gobbling empty bases and think about forcing the mountain route into China.

Calcutta is enticing.

Here is an overview of the shambles that is my home economy. I think I am just keeping it together with copious papering over of the cracks with rice paper.

First mistake was letting supply in Tokyo dwindle away to nothing. That I have remedied by making sure sufficient resources are coming in.... not always sufficient however to keep heavy industry ticking along nicely. The issue I currently have is building up fuel and oil reserves in the Home Islands. It is tight and the now more efficient Allied submarine menace will soon start making inroads into my tanker fleet no doubt. The other thing that I did not pay enough attention to was over jealous acceleration of carrier building. They have all been brought back to normal production and Musashi and Shinano have been halted now for ages. There are bottlenecks for sure in this mod. Much as I am happy with my current position it is just a house of cards waiting for the Allied steam roller to do what is was built to achieve.

Hukuyo Maru, Ohio Maru and Sinko Maru are all survivors of submarine launched torpedo hits. Everyone saved is a small victory.

Haruna is undergoing a lengthy repair after taking a single torpedo hit in the naval battles around Burma.

Hiyo is the magnificent success story of surviving 3 torpedo hits on her maiden voyage. She still has some time in the yards and I hope that some day soon Ed will be surprised to see her name pop up during action reports. I expect his intel has already told him that the ship did not sink as the sub skipper who torpedoed her undoubtedly reported.

Only putting this one up as it shows CA Nachi. She is slowing making her way towards Manila and is about to make a run from Dadjangas to Dumanquilas. The 50 flotation damage is all major damage and I am hoping she does finally make it to Manila.
