Ok guys...turn sent back...it took me nearly one day to re-organize everything...biggest problem was the lost of so many air groups...that is going to hurt...i have anyway found a way to use all those fragments...placed them on escort role in the Aleutinas and Kuriles... nearly 700 between SDBs and TBs are now covering my supply routes, along with 400 escort fighters... interlocking bases should provide some threat to the KB raiding....and soon my mini-DS will be operating on those searoutes...

I've been an observer of both AAR's for quite some time and admire the way you've conducted yourself through out the process.

I felt you were behind the eightball from the very beginning for a variety of reasons, some being the HRs, Raders experience, your lack of experience, scenario 2 and a few others. Although you've had an unfortunate turn of events you have an opportunity to use it as fuel to learn from what you have to overcome at this stage. It will make you a tougher adversary. You've come a long way in a short time, keep your head up and thanks for the entertainment. <thumbs up> [:)]

Ser Greyjoy, you blundering baffoon, you have broken all our toys. All of them! How am I to ever get off this freezing beach and go about my, uh specialty activities?? Huh? How, I ask!

But, seriously, Greyjoy, your game and the discussion in this AAR has really put to the test the program we call WitPAE and all so enjoy. It has given the agme develpors a real look at late war agme mechanics. The the test has proven the need for some examination of the air mechanics and perhaps other areas. We all owe you and Rader a debt of gratitude for carrying the ball so deeply into the game......... and Valentina as well for "loaning" you to us for a bit.

I have a few questions, some for GJ, some for the peanut gallery:

1) What does the KB look like in Scen 2 at this point?
2) Have you advanced in Burma, do you threaten Sumatra and Singapore at all? Would this be a practical axis of attack to stifle oil supplies?
3) Likewise, is an incursion near Java practical?

To me conducting strategic bombing over Honshu while keeping the beachhead threat viable might mean some good gains could be had in the SE Asia/DEI region.

IMHO It is exacerbated by the narrow thrust that GJ has used rather than a theatre wide approach. There is no need for rader to defend anywhere except the HI so both players probably have 75%+ of there air forces facing a 5-6 hex front.

Yup. I've never seen battles this big before, I'm in Feb 1944, and I can't really see it happening to be honest for some time yet.

I don't like overstacking airbases so that means about 15 squadrons max in the typical airbase, and too few airbases to have more than a couple such on a given axis of advance.

Like if I took Guam and Saipan for B29 purposes thats just two airfields at a huge range from Japan, I can't see it being all that effective or leading to vast air battles.

You should take Hokaido, these bases can have lvl 9 AFs [:D]

Btw. I just got also a "big" raid from Jap AI in June44 (400 or so I believe), couldn´t be stopped also. Even if strong CAP from land + CVs. But only 5 CVE sunk by Kamis [:)]

But I would be interested to see a screenie from some of the fighters than were on these carriers, GJ........ if you still have the turn before the disaster. Did you rebase them from landbases to the carrieres recently ? That could be one of the reasons also for poor performance.

Also I find the location you choose for this strike/landing op a bit strange [:'(]

Using only the Marianas will also be a problem, unless you have the japanes heavily occupied in China, Burma, SWPac or Phillipines and annoying threats from the Aleautians and NW Australia.

I also think GJ attack was odd, less odd would have been Marcus Is or Iwo Jima to open another line of approach and threaten the southern HI.

There is a thread in the Help Forum from your opponent complaining about the results of your Osaka raid.

Unfortunately you have given him another reason to whine about your results wheras he has been living in fantasyland in the game.

You will never win against this guy, he'll want a House Rule about using any sort of aircraft next.

Hey Grey, congrats to you and your fighting spirit,
not many players would keep playing this game, and what
is more important, stay positive about this game and game
engine!
Thats makes you one of the best ppl here on boards (not that
many of them remains here).

As for the game. Game engine is borked in most cases- for both sides - and it
seems that Grey is one of few who realise that. But instead of whining he decide
to play this game and enjoy in it. Cudos to him!

As for the rest: what makes you think guys that you can keep trolling trough both
of AARs (raders and grey?). Yes, thats crying like babies: "thats not historical, japan
should never be able to do that and that....etc, etc, while ignoring or justifying
bugs and cheats like AF icons, kamikazes hiting barges, PT's, "storing supply in pockets
for months".

You guys seems incapable to learn how to play this game. I'll tell you a secret:

Allies shouldnt invade target ever if you didnt achive airsuperiority, which means Grey should
close several AFs or cripple his bomber force. Spare me of "so called" arguments like "hey it
isnt posible due uber Japs capability". Ive played this game for so long and i know that is
possible.

So stop whining and start to learn how to play and understand this game. Im not suprised with Grey, hey
i would do worse if i were in his boots (his first PBEM, right?). In fact he is quick learner and
he has many good ideas, but due lack of experience he doesnt always benefite from that.

Im suprised that there is so many veterans here who cant realise that, and they cant learn. Over
and over. So, you have two choices guys, adopt to it or quit play and whine.


PS. I was forced to jump in after Grey politely asked you to stop with crying histeria (lol, try there

Oct 20, 21 1944

Ok guys, another chapter of history of the western civilization has begun to be written: The Struggle for life of Sadogashima!

Rader started to send in in midget subs and his motor torpedo boats (i'm sure the big boys will pay a visit anytime soon), followed by hundreds of 3rd and 4th generation fighters sweeping the skies and by 200 Helens that bombed the base merciless.
I hadn't abbandoned the idea of defending the waters and the skies around and above my outpost.
My DDs managed somehow to keep the motor boats and the midgets at bay (a part from a lonely LSI that has been sunk while delivering a seabee battallion).
The day was characterized by the fourtyeight australian aces who did wonders against Shidens, KI-83 (gosh these are vastly superior to anything i have) and KI-84-Rs...
We achieved a solid 3-1 in our favour (the australian were helped in the effort by 60 Corsairs on LRCAP which were fragments from the carrier battle...) and the base is still open, despite being very damaged.
I need more engineers there. Was a mistake of mine not to send enough engineers...
However we delivered some more 40k supplies today...and the base now has 68k supplies... it will be a race for life... the kind of battleground that i prefer.
Our 2 Australian Squadrons lost 2 pilots and 10 got wounded...but they surely brought with them to hell a lot more japanese fanatic pilots.
His kamikaze managed to slip through at 40 feet and sunk a CL (an old one) and several AKAs... but we're still there, fighting!

NO FEAR!

we're gonna see some very interesting turns from now on...

Now i will give the ozzies a break and send them back to Hakodate to rest and refit. They will be substituted by P-38s and P-47s on LRCAP duties. We're also trying to open an air bridge with 700 transport planes and a train of barges is already active.
The APDs will try to do their own part and several ASW TFs and DD Divisions will be sent to those dangerous waters.

This will be their highest hour!

Man...i love this game!

PS: Rader has doubts about the night bombing effects. I gotta say that the results we achieved (reported by Rader himself) are vastly superior to what we have seen last night during our test runs (during our conference call we spent 1 hour testing the night bombing effects against manpower)...don't know what to say sincerly....gotta think about it...

I know i'm not paying enough tribute to those USMC pilots who did have a much tougher time on LRCAP missions and fought with equal valour over Sadogashima...but you know...Australia is now very far from the front line...and the aussies are starting to get a bit cooler than before about our war effort...a lot of australian soldiers are stuck on the beaches in Japan...shitting themselfs in trenches attacked more by diarrhea more than by japanese shells...they want their boys home..."the war is over" they say..."ask for a reasonable peace" they scream...

...so, as you know, propaganda needs Heores to keep the spirit high...and we're giving them what they want...what they need...heores...Angels....Angels over Sadogashima (where, btw, there are quite a bunch of aussie infantry soldiers too!)

I know i'm not paying enough tribute to those USMC pilots who did have a much tougher time on LRCAP missions and fought with equal valour over Sadogashima...but you know...Australia is now very far from the front line...and the aussies are starting to get a bit cooler than before about our war effort...a lot of australian soldiers are stuck on the beaches in Japan...shitting themselfs in trenches attacked more by diarrhea more than by japanese shells...they want their boys home..."the war is over" they say..."ask for a reasonable peace" they scream...

...so, as you know, propaganda needs Heores to keep the spirit high...and we're giving them what they want...what they need...heores...Angels....Angels over Sadogashima (where, btw, there are quite a bunch of aussie infantry soldiers too!)

Most of these guys fought over Rekata Bay and Tulagi...and there they, having danced with the Death for months, learnt how not to fear it and to move at its rythm...

Probably Sadogashima won't be defendable in the long run...but i wanna believe it is possible.

Do you remember at Tulagi? Everybody called for abbandoning the whole area...abbandoning everything till New Zeland...while we traced a line in the sand and Rader broke his horns against our heroism... was tough...the battles fought were all on the edge... i know here it's different...we're playing right in the Devil's backyard here... but we have no choice. This is where we fight and die, but it's a promise: we're gonna take with us a lot of japs!

It seems to me you need to get several AA units to Sadogashima. Both 40mm Bofors equipped to stop any attacks below 10kft (they are murderous there in numbers) and 90mm ones to disrupt him at higher elevations. But I'm not sure fast transports can manage the larger guns..

I don't think rader has lost even 40 000 planes by this point. Historically Japan made about 50 000 combat planes, despite the concentrated campaign of economic striangulation (understandably harder to do in Scen 2, which still features super-Es, but still doable), which did not happen in this game. Of course, operational losses outside of combat are nearly nonexistent in AE. But that benefits both sides.

I have to wonder, though, where rader takes pilots for his aircraft.
