Here is an industry status report using data from the 1 Jun 42 save.

The summary from this is that I need to start trying to save fuel (by cutting back the IJN's steaming hours) and start trying to save a bit more supply.

I am rationing the export of supply out of the Home Islands, but China and Burma/NE India are still demanding more supply to maintain IJA operations there. The NW Australia operation might need a little more supply, but SEAF and 4th Fleet don't need any more for a little while.

Other than operations, Miri still needs 87k supply, Soerabaja needs 7k and Medan needs 5k before all captured oil wells are repaired.

My vehicle point forecast was out because I didn't factor in all the tank upgrades.
A lot of these vehicle points will be spent soon when the tank units arrive to form the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions. My pre-war forecast suggests that they need about a 20k vehicle points, so I should have enough for them to arrive fully equipped.

I'm going to dial back some more aircraft production, so that will help the Heavy Industry pool continue to grow quicker than the pre-war forecast.

How much more will your oil increase when all repairs are complete? What, if any, effect will that have on your fuel?

99 oil wells left to repair x10 = 990 extra on map liquid oil points / turn when all repaired.
All refineries are operating so the extra oil won’t become extra fuel/day, it will just keep the refineries working for a little bit longer.
The only real way for me to save fuel now is to reduce movement of IJN big ships.
Even if I repaired more refineries, that would just bring forward the date when the Home Islands refineries run out of oil.

Will you be able to provide information on the Recon planes? I am interested in your loss & production rate, something similar to what you did for the other plane types.

There is also something I like to clarify, you mentioned that you are temporarily shuttling your zero production so as to not over-produce. But in another of your screenshot, Ominato Ku S-1 is lacking planes. Should I interpret that it is recently re-sized and the planes are not fully "topped up" yet?

Thanks Joe, I'll do that and top them up with pilots when more finish their basic training over the next few months.

The unit on Akagi lets me set it to resize to 127.
If I try to set it to 128 it reverts to say “resize to fit ship”.
I don’t know of it would actually resize to 127 though.
If it did it would allow about 169 pilots to join the unit!

I really don’t need that many so after all that I think I’ll just leave them at 81 each for now, but if/when I need more training slots I’ll upsize them again later.

Will you be able to provide information on the Recon planes? I am interested in your loss & production rate, something similar to what you did for the other plane types.

Here you go for recon aircraft.

IJA first:

2nd Air Div and CEA Air Div - mostly active recon with 20-30% rest, but no enemy CAP
Ki-15-II Babs: 36 ops losses. No production, 21 in the pool

51st Air DIv - recon training
Ki-46-I Dinah: 1 ops loss. No production, 9 in the pool.

3rd and 5th Air Divs - front line recon against enemy CAP with 20-30% rest
Ki-46-II Dinah: 23 losses, 2x A2A, 21 ops

Total IJA recon aircraft losses = 60, or 10/month.
Production = 20/month with 37 in the pool.

Interestingly, Babs has suffered a higher rate of ops losses than Dinah.
I checked durability ratings, and the ops loss rate is likely due to Babs 22 vs Dinah 32 durability rating.

Looking ahead, 2nd Air Div gets 1x 9 plane recon Chutai in about 40 days then no more IJA recon units until 1944.

IJN recon:

C5M2: 15 losses, 1x A2A, 14x ops = 3/month on average
Two units are on the front line in SEAF while one is training replacement pilots for them back in Japan.

Production was 10/month until recently but I switched it off as I noticed the pool was growing a lot faster than I needed it to, but I didn't check it in this much detail. I still have 38 IJN Babs in the pool, so that’s just over 12 months supply at this loss rate.

Future IJN recon units are also few and far between and most withdraw before the end of the war.
I am planning to build the Judy recon at 10/month when it becomes available, but I haven't yet planned whether to resize up any of the recon groups.

If I do upsize some IJN recon units it will probably just be to size 24 so that they can be supported by a JNAF AFU, and fill in a naval search arc somewhere in between all the Mavis/Emily/Nell/Betty arcs.

I'm increasing the size of those units for training purposes and haven't been filling my training units with full aircraft complements. Once the A6M5 arrives and starts replacing the A6M2 on CVs, those training units could fill themselves out with M2s released from the CVs.

I haven't planned on using resized units for strikes like that as the number of aircraft would be out of balance with available aviation support. I suppose you could use them like that as a "one hit wonder".
It would also be difficult to replace pilot losses on that sort of scale with trained pilots.

True, you may have a difficult time replacing the pilots but think of the defence. Think of how many planes and pilots the Allies will lose - especially the planes since that is even more limiting! Think of sweeping where he invades and knocking his CAP around before your torpedo planes arrive. [8D]

Are you using babs differently from dinahs:

The ops losses are really skewed esp after one take into account that the Babs have been flying against CAPless targets.
Thanks for the information on the recon losses. It is mightily helpful as calibration for my forward planning.

Not using them differently as far as I can tell.
Both are flying up to the same max normal range (11).
Babs are flying at 25k' while Dinah are at 30k'.

My guess is that the main factors are the durability difference, plus the Babs single engine v Dinah twin engine.

Here's a random detail I noticed today.
The stats for the CMDR of this Mavis unit were not up to scratch so he was just replaced by a LT.
It cost 15 PP though, that seems a bit steep for a 6 plane det!

Japanese Bombardment attack – reviewing these numbers gave me an idea. I will move HQ 1st Army and 37th Div west then NW, as I now own all hex sides here except the NW one. It will then come back around to try and clear the hex NW of Tsiatso and close the back door on this hex. It might not work due to the terrain, but at least I will be trying something new here. If it does work, it will free up HQ 1st Army and two more good Divisions for the NCAA axis.
