A typical month of late. A bit of action in China, Capitol ships repairing and subs continuing to score.

July sees some new shiny toys arriving - P47D2's and P40N1/5's for the US, new Wellies for Britis and Kittyhawks and Beau's for Aus.

My US Navy also expands significantly - CV Bunker Hill, Lexington II, Yorktown II, CVL Princeton and Belleau Wood, CA Baltimore, CL Mobile, 3 x Fleet SS, oodles of auxiliaries and escorts [:)]

If they are still in the reinforcement queue, you can. First go to the ship reinforcement screen. Then click on their name so you get the ship details. On ship detail screen, their name should be in yellow. Click on it and give them any name you like. This works for every ship with a II behind it's name.

As it's quiet at the mo for the readers is there anything in particular you'd like more info/screenies on?

I want badass names. Executor is good enough, the Chimera is emblematic too, but one ends up shot from the sky by a kamikaze, and the latter's admiral falls to some backstabbing shit, and then gets captured later on (albeit a relatively short period) by the enemy. Not sure this is what you are expecting as a fate for them [:D] [;)]

awww....Mine Creek is always a good one... good old Kansas. Especially with naming them after battles..

There's always "Reprisal" if you're particularly annoyed with the Japanese - extra points for the fact that they were actually planning to name one of them that, just never quite got around to it.

After consideration. I discarded the name USS Whupass and then used the following names. Yellow Jacket, Bumble Bee, Mud Daubber, Black Widow and Scorpian.

USS Mae West then, and then maybe you can expect the game to give you some buoyancy bonus, double torpedo bulkheads or something [:D]

The first 10 days of July pass by fairly uneventfully. Damn Sitzkreig [;)]

My Major ships are all nearing repair completion now. CV Enterprise left Seattle and arrived at San Fran on the 7th. She's waiting for Lexington to finish her repairs (7 days left) where she'll leave with Lex/Sara/Independence for PH

Fairly quiet elsewhere other than Faber sending a small re-supply convoy to Milne Bay which was bombed by Mitchells from Australia. 2 Freighters were left heavily damaged and burning.

Submarine Warfare -

7 Dud/missed attacks.

SS Muskallunge reported in sinking TK Ogura Maru #1 north of Jesselton on the 1st.

SS Hake sank TK Hoyo Maru over 2 attacks south of Kanoya.

SS KXVII sank AKL Nichiryo Maru off Balikpapan.

SS Hake was in action again on the 7th damaging TK Akatsuki Maru with a torpedo.

SS Perch sank AKL Nitian Maru with a torpedo off Talaud-Eilanden.

SS Billfish heavily damaged AK Yuri Maru with a torpedo off Kendari.

Another regular 10 day update.....we're nearing the time when my forces will begin moving again as most of my major ships finish repairs and upgrades.

Lex, Sara and Big E, 2 x CVL & Co left San Fran on the 18th July bound for PH. They'll meet Yorktown there when she comes out of the shipyard in 5 days. Bunker Hill, Executor and Chimera will be coming through the Panama Canal in the next 2 weeks. Then the fun can begin again [8D]

Submarine Warfare -

(3 days worth of action not noted unforunately).

11 dud/missed attacks!

SS S-34 left the oil laden TK San Clemente Maru heavily damaged and burning off Toyohara on the 11th.

SS S-42 sank the troop filled AK Sugiyama Maru with 3 torpedoes west of Japan on the 15th. Later in the day she damaged another troop laden AK Hakusika Maru with a torpedo.

On the same day SS Drum sank AKL Tonegawa Maru with 2 torpedoes off SW Japan.

SS Sturgeon heavily damaged AK Fuso Maru with a torpedo off Chichi-jima.

On the 18th SS Swordfish reported sinking AK Seia Maru west of Manila.

On the 20th SS S-39 blew up PB Kaika Maru SW of Rangoon.

SS Muskallunge damaged the Tonan Whaler TK Nisshin Maru north of Jesselton with a torpedo.

Speedy: I'm a bit late to this parade. What's up with your lack of air combat (as witnessed by your very low air-to-air losses)? I guess both of you must be quite conservative in the air game, which is not bad, just different.

Also, tough luck on the Hornet but I think you have free reign of the seas after that CV battle.

I named one of my CVs the Deathbeast. I've also named them after Nimitz carriers. In terms of lesser ships with a "II," there's places I've lived for the CAs/CLs and names of friends and relatives for the xAKs.

Main reason for the low air activity at present is the lack of available 'conflict areas'. By that I mean that only Burma, China and northern Aus are in proximity to both airforces. Burma I'm not attackign in at present as I want to have a more modern airforce than just using Hurri's. This situation will change within 4 months though as I begin a Burma offensive.
 
China is a no go as I can't sustain an air campaign there (Faber bombs daily all over there).
 
Northern Aus is no mans land. Faber controls Darwin, Katherine and Port Hedland. The problem is the bases in central Aus can't obtain enough supply to hold airforces therefore the Japanese held bases are out of reach.
 
I bomb Port Hedland to keep it closed 2 out of 3 days by 4E from Carnarvon. This is to aid in an upcomign operation over the next 2 months.
 
CentPac - the distances involved mean LBA can't really operate my end.
 
To summarise there's just few areas at present whereby both of our airforces can reach to meet in air combat!
 
It was a shame losing Hornet for sure, as you say though I have dominance now and with the arrival of a few Essex's I'm stronger than I was before Hornet's loss.

Hi all,

Final update for the month of July.

Lexington & Co reached PH safely and are in port awaiting the arrival of Executor and Chimera which are passing through the Panama Canal. They should be at PH around mid-August. We then head off to the South Pacific to have some fun.

Same old elsewhere with little action of note.

I'm starting to prepare for a Burma offensive by assembling and massing troops at Calcutta where they'll be given offensive orders and begin preparing for the upcoming campaign.

Submarine Warfare -

8 dud/missed attacks. The most prominent of which was by SS KXI as she sighted CV Unryu off Sabang. She fired 4 torpedoes in 2 salvo's all of which missed. She was detected by the escorts and sunk. Faber admitted it was a potential CV raid into the Indian Ocean. They wouldn't have found much anyway.

SS Sawfish sank AKL Juyo Maru on 23rd July. The next day she encountered another convoy and damaged TK Ryuei Maru with a torpedo.

SS Haddock reported sinking AK Koyu Maru with 2 torpedoes in the Phillipine Sea on the 26th July.

SS Hake sank AK Asama Maru #2 off Kanoya on 27th Kuly.

SS Sunfish left AO Toho Maru heavily damaged with a torpedo hit off Balikpapan.

SS Gar was sunk by Japanese LBA off Wakkanai.
