The British decline to bring in the Beaufort (in case required in the Western Mediterranean), but the Italians bring in two more fighters and an SM79.. this could be interesting..

The Italians find the British but do not have sufficient surprise points to avoid combat. They use their points to decrease the enemy air-to-air value

Round 1

The Axis roll a 14 - no result
The CW roll a 17 (DX PX) - the Italians lose the Sparviero and the pilot...

Meanwhile in the Ukraine, the Soviets try a ground strike to try and blunt the German advance. This tactic worked previously - will it do so again?

Er..no would be the answer...

The Soviet plan is to keep tight and do not invite the Germans in by making any stupid mistakes.

The Soviets use Koniev to organise the two land units that previously retreated together with the fighter. It does not get any easier for the Germans does it?

Admiral Campioni and the Italian Fleet sail once more - they intend to deal the small Mediterranean Fleet a crushing blow before retiring back to La Spezia for tea and medals [:)]

Now the Italians have shown their hand, the British bring in the Libyan based Beaufort. Sadly, neither side finds the other...

Back to Russia and the Germans target the forest north of the Dvina once more for a ground strike. This time it is successful - now, can the Germans follow this up with a victory to breach the Dvina river line?

The Germans launch two attacks - one in the north and one in the south. Rommel and von Bock provide HQ support to each respectively, while neither side can affect the outcome with aircraft.

In the Ukraine the Germans choose Blitzkrieg and....

....roll a 10 which shatters the defenders, but at a cost of one unit and half disorganised... Its just not anywhere near good enough...

In the north, the attackers learn of yet another failure for German arms - hardly ideal preparation for this attack...

The Germans choose Blitz once more and ......

..... its a 6. One loss for the defender and the Axis lose an armour unit + suffer all remaining disorganised.

The Royal Navy try and start a fight in the Italian Coast region once more. Admiral Somerville orders HMS Hawkins to sail to the area to bolster the search for the Italian Fleet. Not surprisingly the Italians do not want to initiate combat - they want to survive this impulse and get back to La Spezia.

Unfortunately for the CW, neither side finds the other....

With the German fighter defences better organised the RAF bombers have to search further afield for strategic targets. Four Lancaster/Hampden units fly to Bavaria to attack the capital, Munich and the home of the luxury car makers - Stuttgart.

A total of two production points are lost.

In the Soviet Union there is no need for the Soviets to go on the attack at this stage - they can just sit back and watch the Germans expend themselves into oblivion...

The Italian fleet (less one disorganised cruiser) makes good its escape back to La Spezia.

In the Soviet Union, there is no flying allowed in the northern temperate zone and so no ground strike possible.

The Germans decide to target the hex northeast of Minsk as this already has a disorganised unit within. A Stuka is brought in to try and get 2:1 odds. The Soviets do not contest this.

Looks like I mis-calculated again - the Soviets have choice of combat table (turns out the anti-tank unit counts as Armour...

Oh well. The Soviet chooses the Assault table. They will be sorry when the Germans throw a ...er ...really high score...

...but they didn't, it was a 7 and the German must lose 3 units..

I think the fat lady is warming up for the Axis. Some bad luck and very heavy losses in China and France with no better success in Russia seem to have doomed them to a point. It has been very enjoyable to follow the AAR. :)
