'Tis crazy I tell you! [:D] The wee 'un seems to be more obvious in the evening than first thing.

Wind! How are you mate?

Not too bad. We lost one of our dogs over the weekend, but other than that we're OK.

How's Freedie and Josie doing? And the rest of the pack?

Sorry to hear that mate. All of our boys are either old or ill, so it's a thought/worry that's never too far away...

Freddie's great. Just starting to get a bit fussy with his eating and trying it on, but nothing too hard. He is a very cute, bright, sweet natured little boy, but I really wish I had not shown him how switches work. Josie is Josie - I never seem to be married to the same girl each day. I am always the same (I like to think just the right amount of arsehole), so this changeable lark wears a bit...

yeah other good new i got a call from my buddy. i am allowed to take one deer off the property durring deer season and as many hogs as i can shoot[:)].

What guns do you own now Bobo? I only have airguns, but don't do any hunting. I am just too squeamish!
benelli nova 12 gauage pump shotgun( i would like to upgrade to a semi auto with my bonus this year) its a good gun but because it is all composite it kicks like a mule

my rifle is a remmington model 700 in .270 calibure with a leupold 3-9 scope.

my hand gun is a reuger blackhawk in .357magnum with a 6 inch barrel. this is a single action 6 shot pistol.

i actualy do not own any airguns. i like hunting i wasn't sure how i would handle the blood and guts of it when i first started but it really doesn't bother me at all.

I am not accurate or consistent enough to hunt, even if I was so inclined. I am enjoying target shooting. It forces me to relax and switch off from work etc. I really need the time/space to practice more often if I ever hope to improve. It is a surprisingly relaxing hobby.

Nobody ever answered my question about the differences between scenarios 1 and 2...

The difference is that the Japs get an artificial boost in resources, ships, LCUs, etc. Supposed to show a country more prepared for going to war.

Thanks T [:)]

I don't suppose you could quantify the boost? Both my PBEMs are going to scenario 2 and I'd like to know how much hurt I have signed up for...

TITHE !!!

Oh, a sleeping drunkard .. up in Central Park;
Or a lion hunter .. in the jungle dark;
Or a Chinese dentist .. or the British Queen;
They all fit together, in the same machine;
Oh a whirling dervish .. and a dancing bear;
Or a Ginger Rogers .. and a Fred Astair;
Or a teenage rocker .. and the girls in France;
We are all partners, in this cosmic dance;
Nice, nice, very nice;
So many people in the same device.

That is either very profound, or someone hit the 5 o'clock cocktail hour early [:D]

There's quite a lot. The IJN gets some more cruisers and destroyers, the IJA gets some more divisions and brigades, and several Japanese Home Island bases have more industry and starting resources.

For example, Tokyo starts out with 300000 tons of additional oil, 200000 tons of additional fuel and 500000 tons of additional supply. It also has a 100 point repair yard instead of 10 points, along with a bigger resource and oil generator. There's more, but it's a long list.

no...a whole book on Surigao?

Not sure what the point would be!

We came......we saw the blips.....we fired on the blips. The Blips disapeared.
Awww....come on....

The initial USN DD torpedo attack should be a case study of an effective night attack. I think there's grounds for considering it (right up there with Savo on the IJN side) the most effective single attack using torpedoes in the Second World War. The big guns on the prewar BBs just cleaned up some scraps.

They all had radar, but they weren't all the most modern sets.

A couple only had Mk 3's which wern't fully blindfire capable. That though is hardly new. Just read the biop on Amazon. Interesting, but only mildly. Books on specific battles tend to be down on my booklist given that there about a million battles and a billion books on many of them. A few notables of course get the exception....Kursk....Midway....Leyte (all inclusive....already have 2 books on that subject), Marianas etc.

The first reviewer was hilarious to read. Talk about anal nitpick! No wonder professional authors stay away from Internet forums!

The most interesting bit about Surigao for me would be that it's been relatively poorly covered in literature. I'll get the book, but probably not until next year.
Morrison does a credible summary in Volume 12 of his History of the USN in WW2-you probably have already read that one though...

Brethren of the Thread, I come before you humbled by the mighty Fickle Finger of Fate.

My long running CHS PBEM with ChezDaJez has been felled by the pilot bug it appears. We have reached late August of 1944 and have been enjoying the war tremendously.

 He wrote that after running the last turn he had lost nearly 20-30% of his pilots, so he redownloaded and ran the turn again managing to keep his pilots. Alas, my forces have lost huge numbers of experienced pilots, including every one with more than fifteen kills. One CV VF squadron lost 27 of 40 pilots, the AVG 1st squadron lost 30 of 33 pilots (I had disbanded the 3rd squadron some time ago).

I'm not nearly ready to start an AE campaign, because I haven't had the time to ingest that game yet. However, I soon will probably be jonesing for my WITP fix, so it looks like I'm going to have to dive into the deep end of an AE PBEM sometime soon... Thread help me...

I am curious about that pilot bug. I have seen it mentioned before , did anyone ever figure out what might be causing it ?

And I bet you will like AE.

I think that the problem is that they ran into a limit on the number of named slots for pilots. AE has vastly increased that number and so is not expected to run into the problem. At least that is what my foggy memory is telling me...
