(1) If you don't already have the global map up you can pull it up under "View" -> Toggle Global Map On/Off. Or use the hotkey Ctl+G to toggle it on/off.
(2) I then make sure to "Zoom" to the larger of two sizes.
(3) To label the sea areas I go under the convoy/ships button and select China since they very rarely have any ships at sea. This is a neat trick to get the labels without any ships appearing on the map.
(4) I then hit the control flag to show hex control.
(5) To get the legend I can hit the "Legend" button next to the convoy/ships button.
By the way, I'm very much enjoying your AAR. Have you played the gamed to 1948 already and just documenting it now? How do you plan to play to 1948?

I have not played all the way to 1948 just yet. It's so easy to restart when there's no accountability, when no one is watching. So, to be quiet honest, I'm winging it! I was an early beta tester for WiF, and I know I was the one advocating the longer game (although quite honestly I was hoping for 1951+) - now I get to enjoy it
