Turn 75. Axis. July 3, 1942. Opening Messages.

1. Well there goes the KB and the heart of the IJN to Davey Jones' Locker.
2. Obviously, or maybe not obviously, my lack of understanding of how the naval model works was the death of the KB.
3. I though the 4 CV task force would defend itself and also not let surface ships at will run, hit them and run back.
4. I'm now going to have to rely on naval air units and what navy I do have left.

I almost posted something yesterday, but deleted it. You had 3 carriers being escorted by a mere 2 destroyers & a sub, right off the coast of Hawaii. 2 of your CVs basically had no offensive strike capability, at all, and they also had suffered ship damage, and likely were at low supply to boot.

It's a tough lesson, but live & learn. We've all been there.

The Naval Mod tho gives CVs a significant evasion percentage, as well as substantial ZoC movement penalties for most ships. I prefer to have a substantial escort screening force myself, vs. having crucial battles depend on the random device, tho I do like the ZoC's.

The mathematics of escorts on a hex grid favors concentration of forces. To cover all possible attack angles:

Carriers Escorts
-----------------
1...........6
2...........8
3...........9
4...........10
5...........11
6...........12
7...........12
8...........13

I typically later in the war use the latter formation. Over at the War in the Pacific board they call that a Death Star.

I may be rezzing my Pacific Map (since the amount of work needed for that map is much less than for the 20K Euro map that I've been slaving on for 5 months now). Since the scale is ~50% finer than the vanilla world map, I'll be able to have LOTS more ships.

[Saw your newest posts] It can indeed be a struggle to find supply for units on jungle islands.
