Merauke: Some Sallys, perhaps from Sorong get a little frisky toward an ASW group near Mearuke and are shown the door by P-40K's. The 7 hex range of the P-40K is a nice addition....especially since the Eigth Air Force is hogging all the P-38's.

Sydney/Melbourne: Loading of troops has begun. Even with two big ports there isn't enough dock space. Invasion support will consist of 3 CV's, 5 CVE's, 2 fast BB, 2 BC, one prewar BB. We may have trouble filling up all the deck space on the carriers. Even the RAF will come along with Sea Hurricanes.

Ground troops will consist of 3 USMC regts., 6th and 7th Aus Div., 2 combat engineer units, 2 Bn armor, 4 artillery units and SouthPAc HQ with radios, maps, extra field kitchens AND Admiral Nimitz.

Does seem like a tongue twister when you look at all the letters seperately, but in the movie "Merrill's Marauders" they pronounced it Mitt-kee-na with no emphasis on any syllable. In Hollywood fashion they portrayed this US raiding group taking the town when IRL there was a two week offensive by lots of troops to take it.

Good! I'd say it's time the Chindits did their fair share. No sense lolling about playing cards all day.

What mistake? The USN didn't actually put it in the water did they???[X(]
Or by "us" do you refer to this AAR and Your Admiralships? You did the correct thing by assigning her to be a torpedo magnet so that other ships might be spared. Kinda like using DDs to find out where the enemy has his minefields.[:D]
