Turn 115 = July 1942

ORIGINAL: B/snafu

Is there any substantial soviet counter-offensive "punch" left at this stage with the current situation?? Or are there any out of theater events that can improve the outcome if the soviets can manage to fend off the axis just a little while longer?

There is nothing in the event engine that would model a Soviet reaction to a German advance this far. The Soviets do continue to get more new units, while the Germans really don't get much. I suspect Mr. Fulkerson is hoarding up some tank armies off in the distance in order to pounce on the Germans just as they are about to take Moscow. (Stalin loved Cowboy movies!).

So um........I'm thinking that this game is just about over. I would have given up earlier but I want to see what happens at the Gorkiy area. I'm pretty sure that the Soviets are so outnumbered that there isn't much offensive punch left and if the Axis takes the entrance hex(s) that are Gorkiy then there won't be much more replacements / reconstitution to be had. Karri is a really really good player and I only lasted this long because he let me last this long. He might say something to the contrary but .....

I'd be curious to know what the Axis losses are so far.

EDIT: We've decided to end this game right here. The Soviets are beaten and don't have much hope of winning and Karri reports that the Axis side of this game is getting boring so....

Final words, the game was good. I play to enjoy and I enjoyed this, as well as all other games with larry, very much. It was interesting up until the very last few turns(pretty boring to use 2-3 hours to plan attacks just to gain a hex or two). With Leningrad and Moscow surrounded and Soviet units in Gorky bottled up, the Soviets were pretty much beaten up. In equipment we were pretty much even, but in raw unit numbers I outnumbered Larry by 2 to 1, or even more. If we would have continued then Moscow, Leningrad, Arctic front and pretty much everything else but Gorkiy area would have fallen to me in 20-30 turns...and with Larry no longer having even the 2 to 1 advantage in replacements, his chances of getting into Berlin would have been nonexistant.

Good scenario, excellent opponent and I had plenty of fun. Thanks Larry.
