October 3, 1944

I lost 9 planes over this huge group of Allied strength...what in the world are they up to? I thought it was an invasion of Formosa, Luzon, or China.

Tokyo is bombed mercilessly again today. Fires at 109,000.[:(]

Once again, multiple naval bombardments at Honshu.

Over in China, the rear guard garrison unit east of Lang Son dies fighting to the last man, and surprise, surprise, the Allies don't have anyone in pursuit mode. It is a nice highway, but probably delayed a day or two in the fall of western China.

Allied bombers are starting to support the Chinese advance in the mountains.

Two ADs, one AR, one AG are providing the repair points at this level 2 port. The Fuso is headed here, now near Ternate, and she will occupy the AR's attentions.

I have to watch them like a hawk. The escorts can run out of depth charges so fast, and then those ships are a liability and need to be rearmed quickly which is becoming troublesome.

Also, the high speed runs needed to escape Honshu almost always damage the depth charge equipment which means they need to be replaced.

What is left of the IJN Iboat fleet.[:(]

Two of the boats are radar equipped, and have been out on two cruises but no hit anything yet.

The SSTs are hard at work ferrying supplies to China. Doing well, and fuel isn't a concern.

Only two more boats will be completed before Jan 1, 1945. All the others were destroyed in the yards as western Honshu fell. Quite a few boats would be available in May of 45 -- especially a lot of SSTs with capacity of 60 and 80 which would have been very nice to have.

Not really much in the pipeline to help fight over the next 90 days....

I made a decision to buy back the Infantry troops and will throw them into beach hexes. I really can't afford to build them back up to full strength, but their presence seen thru sigint or bombing runs might help delay the Allies from invading or picking a different spot. Numbers on the ground from aerial recon can be provided by HQs and ENG units further adding to the deception of strength.

Finished the turn, they are getting easier...but I certainly could spend a lot more time on them, but with two games you know...I have discovered that two games is really too much for me, but there is 90 or fewer turns left in this one.

Yes, I am learning that as well.
I started a 2nd PBEM, but wow -- it shows how much more you know about the game after going thru it with a PBEM partner keeping you dedicated to flipping turns. At least it is true in my case.

If I were retired, maybe I could keep 2 or 3 games going at a turn a day pace, but with family, work, other commitments - keeping two games going is a stiff bill to pay each day.

You are in the final stretch, though and you have put up a valiant effort. Inspiring to this JFB. Thanks so much.

A new month, but no new planes for Japan. Takes away a lot of the joy.

How close did you get those Rockets before the bottom fell out of that plan?
Engines?
Air Frames?

October 4, 1944

Lots of naval and aerial bombardments of Honshu. AA claims a few.

Allied air force flying to support the Chinese attack in the mountains...huge strikes.

Allies fleets continue moving east.

AA claims a few planes.

Chinese get two strong Corp and win a road hex....not good.



I am thinking in just hanging tough and fighting here, where the troops are dug in, sometimes up to level 4. They will get wiped out, but hopefully it will take some time.

A lot depends upon how much the Allied air forces support the attacks.

VP ratio is now 2.282:1. Allies get around 300 a turn from bombing. Strategic VP are over 54,000 points.

The Kongo repaired another point of system damage.

It goes to show that damaged ships can repair fine in ready mode in some cases, and a better understanding of the repair mechanics are needed.

I doubt the Kongo can do anything more meaningful than to be bait for a CAP trap, but she might be able to sneak at night and 0 percent moonlight one of the larger conquered Japanese ports and wreck some unexpected havoc.

October 5th, 1944

Allies bomb and bombard...pretty much anywhere they want to. I did manage to entice a 10 plane helldiver strike onto a lonely SC escaping from Honshu...with good results.

Miyako Jimi gets nailed by the Deathstars planes....most everything has been evacuated there, but I had been drawing supply from there to China. A few disbanded ships in port survive.

Allies pick up another 250 VP for the day...moves the VP ratio .004 in their favor to 2.286 to 1.

Allied air forces continue to heavily support the Chinese offensive in the mountains. Doesn't look good there, as my troops are having a hard time inflicting losses despite favorable odds because of disruption and lack of supplies.

A radar equipped Iboat attacks...and misses.[:(]

Finding a good convoy route is a win, however.[:)]
