That's going to be tough, but best of luck! Plenty of shore bombardment will be key. I assume Truk's airfield and port are out of action from B-17/B-24 raids. I would be sure of that before sending slow BBs to bombard in case they don't make it out of air range by dawn.

CaptBeefheart, I am moving my 10 CVE cover fleet up to provide air cover for bombarding TFs.
I had to move some recon around and will get a picture of Truk this turn. If he has put aircraft there again, I will bomb them.
I have 6 squadrons of B-17Es available in the area and 74 replacements. I am willing to bomb both night and day attacks.

A pretty quiet day. Weather scrubbed a lot of air flights in both NG and Burma.

Recon of Truk shows no fighters or bombers there, only a few aux aircraft.

First turn since Wednesday morning

Not much happening. Most of my air strikes were scrubbed, probably weather, lots and lots of clouds on the map.

Of course, he was able to bomb a number of Chinese positions.

I do have a Chinese Corps trapped North of Paotow. But it is not a big deal, much of it will return when it respawns in Chunking
in a month. But in the meantime, it is holding up his troops while mine are racing down the road. If they can hold out a few
turns maybe I can catch up to some of his units.
I have moved into the hex Southwest of Nanning with 3 Corps and he has one unit, I have no idea how big that unit is but I am
going to do a DA this turn. If they retreat then off to Hanoi I go.

I am following, they retreated to the hex SE of Katha.

Lots of air activity, for me it was mostly airfield and troops at Taung Gyi
2 Chinese and a British fighter squadrons did a LRCAP over my Chinese LCUs SW of Nanning.
They shot down 7 Helen and 4 Ann bombers plus 5 A6M2 Zeros. 3 other Helens were lost to ops.
My guys lost 2 P-66 and 2 Hurricane IIc fighters. Basically 4 to 1, got to love that since 11 of the kills
were by the Chinese.

Most of my bombers hit troops and airfield at Taung Gyi. It will take about 10-12 days to get
enough troops to see about taking the base.

Truk continues to be hit with bombers.
Recons shows a number of 1 and 2 ship TFs at Truk, I suppose those are more SSXs

Maybe barges weren't practical at Sarmi, but I've found they usually don't get hassled by air.

September 21, 1943

But, LCIs are not barges, they are Landing Ship, Infantry. According to the manual they were made LCI to not confuse players with the British LSI series of ships.

Having seen subs about in the Rabaul - Kavieng - Manus area, I activated some of my minesweepers in the area and found mines at Mussau Island, Manus and Kavieng.
I am surprised that my size 300 minefields at Kavieng and Manus did not catch a sub laying mines.

Last turn I made a mistake in orders, this turn is was time for Xargun. He says he had all his bombers on a portion of KB stood down
This was lucky for me, my DS-Lite composed of 3 British CVs and a CVL probably would not have stood up too well.

I am surprised how well the Corsairs did on escort, the total was 23 A7M2 and 11 A6M5c Zeros shot down
for 16 Corsair IIs shot down. The Corsairs did suffer 8 ops writeoffs, but only 4 pilots were lost. Of course I lost
a lot of bombers, but that is to be expected and there were no hits.

Bombings of Truk and Taung Gyi continue. And now the 1st Raiding Regiment seems to have left Bassein. I will wait until
I have both a Base Force and AA unit before moving my small A/C unit into the hex

He is bombing my troops in Eastern China and I am now moving them to better terrain and further away from his bases. I have
no bases that I can use for LRCAP over the units.

Weather intervened today all over the map. So some of my bombers went in without any morning sweeps and no escort.
21 Wellingtons pay the price. No bombers flew to Truk and only a few to Taung Gyi and those didn't do much given the bad weather
and small sortie size. Wellingtons have a problem if they are opposed, they do not have many guns for defense.

My PF did not sink or incur any more damage, just a couple more days and it will make it to port

According to Tracker the total losses today
are not bad At this point I am not terribly worried about USAAF pilot losses, concerned but I have a good amount of 70/70/70 pilots in the pool
so it is not a big problem and I have my training program working in high gear.
The air frame losses are always a problem, but manageable for now. P-47D2 are now obsolete air frames so some losses of them are not
a huge problem. I lost about 16 total pilots today, fighter and bomber.

Some bombing at Truk, my flak and ops losses are higher than I can sustain for the time being. I might just not bomb Truk for a while.
I expect his forts are already up to about 9 now so it doesn't really make a lot of difference. It looks like I will just land with every thing
I have and hope for the best. But it will be a few months, there is no real reason to hurry that landing. Mid 1944 is time enough.

3 more turns and the DAs at Taung Gyi start, it will probably be a bit brutal on my troops, but is it required. One thing the Allies have to
accept is that there will be losses, no way around it. Having to attack units fortified in bases in cover terrain just has to be done and it costs.
My goal at this time is to take Rangoon before the end of the year and then move on to Thailand/Indochina and Malaya. Singapore before the
end of 1944 would be nice.

A fairly quiet turn. I tried night bombing Rangoon and Moulmein with no real results.

I swept Rangoon and Taung Gyi, no opposition. Tomorrow I will do my first DA at Taung Gyi. I have set all my medium and heavy bombers to bomb troops at Taung Gyi.
I have no idea what will happen. I have two more divisions that are moving into Taung Gyi, one will be there tomorrow and one will take 2 days. Rain is the forcast
for the region, I hope it does not interfere with my bombing too much.

I am sending 3 squadrons of P-38Hs from Hollandia to sweep Dobo where recon shows 73 fighters. My pilots are very experienced with excellent stats in air and def.

Tracker says Xargun lost 52 Ki-44-IIc Tojo( 48 air-2-air and 4 ops)
and that I lost 6 P-38H Lightning fighters( 5 air-2-air and 1 ops ) I show I only lost 1 pilot.

The not so good was the results of my DA at Taung Gyi, it appears to me he got a very good set of die rolls
But I knew it would be a bloody affair. I will have to wait a few turns, I will continue to bomb his troops
and see how fast I can rally the troops.
