How do I set the switches to increase the size of the windowed mode window?
You just set the resolution. Here are my switches for my desktop, which has the same resolution. I deliberately use a size that leaves some space at the bottom so the Windows menu bar is accessible to quickly change between apps (Tracker, etc).
Bobcat Windowed, Windows 7:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -cpu4 -dd_sw -archive -wd -pxf1920 -pyf1018 -noFire -skipVideo
Great, that works pretty well. A few more questions:
Can I adjust the numbers pretty much how I want them or do they need to maintain some kind of aspect ratio?
Why does the px and py have "f" in there?
What is -noFire?

The 1st and 3rd Rocket Artillery are here in Osaka, and believe you me they pack a punch.
The 2nd is at Changsha.
I really, really like them.[:)]

The windows 10 setup is nicer than my Classic Gnome since I can have tracker up and running too.
I will need to devote some time to figure out if tracker can run in linux and how to do it. I think there may be a C+ problem,
but I am not sure.
Anyhow, below is a picture of what my dual monitor, workplace switcher will look like. I have instant access to all workspaces,
plus taskbars, panels, and app search with a press of the super key...but with windows I can switch faster with a mouse click. Maybe I will mirror that setup here as well, but for now I am having fun playing with workspaces.
So I will run WITP windowed in the top left, notes and todo list in the upper right.
Bottom left will be a paint program of some type; while bottom right will be browser.
You can do the same thing in windows, but with a task bar visible to switch -- that doesn't automatically switch the monitors on the right so workspaces might end up being better as I play with them more.
For some reason the print screen key is disabled when I engage my super key...perhaps I will take a picture and post that so you get
a better idea of what I am trying to accomplish. I may go to six screens, but I am a little worried about memory problems.

Any size you want within your monitor's resolution. Make sure the shortcut is set to "Start maximized" for minimum fuss, but it will work fine either way.
Why does the px and py have "f" in there?
It's to allow a resolution that is not a standard one for your video card. Not sure if it is strictly needed for windowed mode. You could try without it to see if things still work.
What is -noFire?
When you are not in a standard size for your graphics card, and you are in windowed mode, this game requires very very fast graphics in order for the screen not to jump during the replay, and the firing animations really go crazy. So for windowed mode I add that switch which turns of explosions, etc. What I do is have a separate shortcut that runs in full screen mode (without -noFire) that I use to run the replays (to get the nicer graphics), then I switch to the windowed mode shortcut to enter orders (because I switch back and forth between applications so much).

Turn is away, and we have some Myojo on short range naval attack, some Irving-sa too.
Other than that, repairing ships, air lifting troops, moving supply and sending two E's into a den of PT boats.

THANK YOU. Just what I needed as well to see the full list of taskforces in massive allied armada`s.

Oct 29th, 1944
During the night I lose:
1 LST...making a run towards Daito Shoto.
2 E's raiding south from Tokyo; looking for PT boats and finds 2 destroyers
1 PB on the river in China
2 PC on the river in China
Allied destroyers running far up river...
Caught a sub in deep water, but destroyers are nowhere near as good as Super E's...they simply don't drop enough depth charges per attack.

Allies are coming for my shipping I suspect....I moved most of it back to Hankow; if he sweeps there it will be a long day.
And he will...

Lots of Allied sweeps...
I stage another short naval strike....fight thru the LRCAP only to miss. I do this periodically, not really in the hopes of hitting anything, but rather to force the Allies to keep flying CAP and LRCAP.

In the afternoon Deathstar 1's planes attack the runways....
My merchant fleet survives another day. But really, there is no hope for them with the Chinese/Commonwealth advancing from the west. I am surprised he is using his Deathstar this way, and not to prepare for another Honshu invasion.
Perhaps he plans on invading China here?

Yep, not much I can do there now. Actually, almost rather he sent his marines here than taking Tokyo.
How could I ever post again if I lost Tokyo?

Ran the turn in windowed Linux...
The combat replays of the bombing, bombardments is slow compared to windows 10 and the animation very jerky when I escape thru the screens.
I clicked out of the window and back again during the ground bombardments and that worked very well -- boom right to the combat report.
That is kind of a pain to do during the air phase however and even the naval bombardment phase (when there are 10 of them).
Perhaps I will give the -noFire switch a shot. I have never used that before.
I might also play with the other settings a bit too.
Other than that, entering the turn, clicking orders, etc., etc. everything works just as well as Windows 10.

In general, graphics can be expected to be slow compared to Windows because Microsoft has put a great deal of effort into making Windows a good platform for graphics, particularly for the gaming market. This is also reflected in the drivers that graphics card makers provide for Windows versus for Linux. That last bit is changing some as the card manufacturers are more forthcoming with drivers for Linux. There is a philosophical problem there in that they want to keep proprietary tricks private, and many in the Linux development world want only open source drivers. That would mean the card manufacturers have to reveal what they consider competitive secrets (versus their rivals), so they prefer instead to provide their own drivers. The desktop market for video games has been overwhelmingly Windows in the past, so any Linux drivers the manufacturers provided were modest efforts. As I said that is changing but hardware graphics on Linux has not hit parity with Windows yet and I don't know when it will.

According to my son, very shortly as the graphics used in Linux will be based on Vulcan a steam backed system that is supposed to really kick butt. It is hard to believe how much impact Steam has had on linux gaming two years ago their 10 top programs in sales there was but 1 linux os, and the other day I counted 8 out of 10 were on linux too -- what an improvement.
Although will that means there will be great improvements in legacy programs...doubtful, but you never know.
Anyhow with some tweaking and experience, I am hopeful my witp ae gaming experience will be just fine in linux. It may simply be a matter of adding some switches.
If I gave up right away, then I would never have gotten Windows 10 running the game so well.[:)]
