I am still trying to figure out what "Toe-rag" means.

A definition as good as any:

toe rag

The definition derives from old England where convicts used to tie bits of shirt around their toes and feet as a make shift sock, hence "toe rag" means scoundrel, criminal, thief, indencent/unlawful person etc.

Or just git*. I added that bit.

*Just in case. Git: Total and utter tosser who is incapable of doing anything other than annoying people, and not in a way that is funny to others. Best used idly. e.g. "Git."

Yes, but how could you differentiate from a 'shabby', as in Ken Shabby? If memory suits, he wears toe rags (and raises polecats for peace).

Would it be considered 'proper' English slang to use 'He's a right git', or is that just redundant?

I think it may be the Hiawatha Campground off old 66 near Joplin, MO. Hiawatha is on top of the coffee shop and rental office out front. I am pretty sure the boots on the soldiers are not regulation either.

Darwin/Bathurst: The great bulk of the unloading is done at both locations. Tranpsorts left Darwin today. A few are left at Bathurst. Bathurst airfield is not quite ready so LRCAP is still flying from Gove. Again no air raids over Darwin (3rd day). Colorado and Maryland will bombard tonight. JJ tried an arty bombardment at Darwin but the counterbattery fire was brutal, much more than we could have achieved with our attack.

PT tenders arriving Bathurst today. Seaplanes in operation at Bathurst have pushed back the search area to well past Kopeang.

Ground combat at Darwin (76,124)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Japanese ground losses:
405 casualties reported

Saumlaki: Irrustrious started back to Sydney and then on to Gibraltar. The US CV/CVE's moved North to cover the main landing at Saumlaki. This will consist of a Marine Def Bn, and engineers to build up the airfield. Some Bettys went after the carriers.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Saumlaki at 79,118

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 80 NM, estimated altitude 10,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 28 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 13
G4M1 Betty x 3

Allied aircraft
Martlet II x 15
F4F-3A Wildcat x 5
F4F-4 Wildcat x 75

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 4 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

A LYB night surface raid at Saumlaki is more of a threat because they can approach without being spotted more easily. Also the airfield build site is on the NW side of the island.

I think the point is that Sonarman 1st Class Peabody is quite interested in technical matters and is....well.....not yet accustomed to the company of women, if you get my drift.

One can never have too much "company of women", but some damn computer wargame published in England seems to occupy much of my time these days ... and nights too - at my age sleeping eight hours at a stretch is rare so I pester the working class online as a break from playing the game.

<We see the interior of a large craft composed of carefully machined surfaces of an arsenic-carbon-vanadaium alloy. The design is fantastically unergonomic and, to tell you the truth, is not even that aesthetic either. I am pretty sure that the race which designed this craft has no gays..or Italians either. A large, grey-green trident shaped hand perhaps 18 in in length adjusts an apparent control lever. At the end of each digit is a thick protective covering of hardened hair which is covered by a vile green-brown muck that smells of...well...frankly it smells like shit because it is. I mean, you would think an advanced race like this could devise a better strategy to get waste product off their hind quarters, but, there you have it. The room reverberates with a loud "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM">

Chief: GODDAMNIT Wortj#esqrxx! Can't you fix that damn 60 cycle? It's drivng me nuts.

Helmsamn First Rate Wortj#esqrxx: Workin' on it, Chief.

Cripes, Mandrake, even back in the 70's a lousy $5 wouldn't get you in the door of a "Social Club" in Olongapo or Gate 2 Street/Kadena.
