I was a nuke for 25 years. All that manual and backing up stuff were all just smoke and mirrors. Remember all reactors are just large Bic lighters. All you do is move the -/+ on the lighter in the direction you like. We use all the other confusing stuff to make us look important. Somewhat like most of the above comments and circular arguments about patches. The confusion adds to the mystery! Or is it the other way around?

[:D]Then I take it you never heard the defination of the big three Navy communities and their respective relationships with "The Book"?[:D] I did a LMET course (that should date me) back in the eighties at New London at the sub school.....I'm not sure that's quite all smoke and mirrors. That course (consisting of 25 "bubbleheads", 16 of whom were "nukes"and 1 token "Airdale"-me) )was the longest two weeks of my life.[8|]

I hear you. The six months at nuke school were the longest of my life. Orlando for six months- sounds great, but I spent most of them at the Orlando NPS. Not fun. Years later, working on m Ph.D. was a breazy. Did you get used to us nukes?

[:)]Get used to you? Impossible. Now my wife has the "nuke watch". Her last three commands have been run by "bubble head nuke Admirals". As a JAG , she's definatley learned about nuke reverance for the book. She gives a legal opion , then the first thing the nuke admiral wants is for her to "show him it in the book". It's really funny , she sometimes feels like a first year law student , having to justify every thing she says, (not a lawyer with twenty years experince). I'm glad I'm retired![:D]

Years later, working on m Ph.D. was a breazy.

The Navy gave me alot of skills, did alot of good things for me and litterly saved me from a life of poverty. But above all that, your statement above is what I give the most thanks for. After NPS, and being on M30 the whole time, I know that anything else I want to study will be a piece of cake.

But seriously, as a recruit I had a retired master chief tell me , "No matter what school or training the Navy offers you , jump at it. Even if they teach you underwater basket weaving , someday it will be useful , and you will have learned it well" . I think he was right.[8|]

The winds of War are coming. This is going to be a much different release then in the past. As soon as you get the details together we will let you know.

12 O'clock high is still used as a leadership learning tool as is Apollo 13. Great movies. I never knew too many nukes that ascribed to that type of leadership -- there was no book to look things up in. Remember: you can't breath unless it is in a proceedure.

Pain did not properly describe nuke school. Though in the end, it was worth it. Weekends on Clearwater or Cocoa Beach had its advantages!

Sure is. I saw 12 O'clock High in a brigade officer's call not more that a year or so ago. Great movie.

I've seen that movie a dozen times. Peck does a great job, and the tension generated is so real it can absorb you. Command pressure makes virtually anything else look ridiculously easy.

12 O'Clock High was a great movie, they really can't make a movie that captures the feeling of the time like that one did anymore, IMHO.
Peck was great, but I always felt Dean Jagger (Maj Stovall) came close to stealing the show.

By the way, I read that during pre-production discussions, the studio kept hammering away at defining the essence of the story - and it was de-constructed down to "The breaking of Gen Savage". They certainly got that. Classic movie.

It could be. I just recently re-read the book , and the movie pretty much followed it, with only minor changes. [:)]

Ok, I'm confused, I asked if there are more patches comming for Witp, and we get Winds of War something or other?

Is Winds of War, a new game or a flame war when Matrix tells us there more no more patches comming for WITP? [X(]

Why would Winds of War be an interest to WITP players? [:-]

Whats the offical word on future patches for WITP? I'm still waiting for the sub transport issue to get fixed! [:(]

[:D]The Master Chief of the command prohibited me from wearing my leather flight jacket with my "black barts" or dungarees ( while wearing a green nylon flight jacket with his khaki's and dolphins) saying no organizational clothing. I don't think I'd have had the guts to wear THAT t-ee shirt , senior. Later , on the first day , someone explained what a "AW" was , and suddenly everyone in the class all turned to me saying "ooh.....". The instructor (facilitator) who was a AMCS opened the door and said "Run for it kid, I'll hold them off!" All in all an interesting experince. I'd just as soon not repeat it.[8|]
