Thanks, Myron. Reynolds OWNED us in game one, and Spahn was a disappointment. Lombardi was wild, giving up six walks and all those hits while striking out 9.

We're letting the Yankees intimidate us, and we gotta settle down. Branca starts tomorrow night, and I'm impressing upon him the need to maintain his control. We're gonna be careful with that powerful Yankee lineup, and try to generate some runs in the old McGraw style -- bunts, steals and hit & runs. They aren't much different from the Giants, except their pitching is better. We can beat them if we can manufacture some runs.

KG,
I bet DiMaggio was an unhappy camper. Joe D must have banged his bat against some thing in the club house. If it had been Mantle bat and batting helmet would be flying and the water cooler would have caught h-ll.

Monday, Oct. 6. Dickson (9-12, 4.48) is a surprise starter. He faces Bobo Newsom (17-10, 3.08). A cold front moves in. 38 degrees, with the wind blowing in from RF @13 mph.

2nd Inning. Lewis hits an RBI double, scoring Hodges from second. 1-0, Dodgers.

In the 3rd, Berra ties it with an RBI single.

Spahn relieves Dickson in the 7th. Henrich hits an RBI single. 2-1, Yankees.

Raschi relieves Newsom in the 8th. Hearn relieves Spahn.

9th Inning. Reese leads off with a double. Robinson bunts him to third. Williams singles, and Reese scores. 2-2.

We go to the 10th. Page relieves Raschi.

In the 13th, Drews loads the bases. He then walks in Reese. 3-2, Dodgers. Kell doubles and empties the bases. 6-2. Lewis singles, Kell scores. 7-2. Peterson pitches the bottom of the 13th.

Hearn wins, Drews loses, and Brooklyn leads the series 2-1.

The New York press jumps all over Bucky Harris for letting Drews pitch. This helps deflect any acknowledgement that my team could actually be any good. Those arrogant Bronx b*stards.

Lombardi wins, Reynolds loses, and the Dodgers lead the series 3-1.

The Yankee fans are stunned, and are oddly quiet as they leave the stadium, as if they can't believe what they had just seen.

After all this, I'll give careful consideration on whether to continue for another year. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. OK, after five seconds of deliberation, I have decided to move on to 1948.
