Apparently this was not a complete surprise, or glad we didn't wait a few days longer!

March 24th 1942

Calcutta, India

Gen Terauchi commander of HQ Southern Command walks behind the guns in the predawn light, it has been quiet since the last units made it over. They had formed enough of a bridgehead that follow up units no longer will need to rush. He just recieved word that the armoured unit sent around the flank to the east was just entering the city, he gave word for them to secure it. That should severe the rail line to Burma.

Now to the issue at hand, many allied forces had suddenly arrived on trains, its time to prep them for the coming storm. His hand raises into the air then comes down sharply.

Immediatly the early morning quiet is dismissed with the thunderous concussion of 100's of Guns cascading shells into the enemy forces. The response from the enemy sounds feeble in return.

Nandi, Fiji
The General of the 24th division walks along the beach, they had just pushed the New Zealand troops back as was expected. What was he doing here, he was supposed to be with the main push in india, but those two divisions on Noumea had been stuck so he was ordered south to help. Just before arrival they secure Noumea so his orders, switch targets and take Suva. Well it was warmer here then Manchuria.

He looks east and then tells his subordinates. The quicker we take Suva, the quicker we can get get into the real battle. Lets show these capitalist what Japanese Mountain Samurais can do!

Historical fact

Its callsign was the Mountain Division

The 24th Division was formed in Harbin, Manchukuo on 6 October 1939,as part of the Manchukuo territorial defense force under overall command of the 5th Army group of the Kwangtung Army.

In July 1944, it was withdrawn to Japan, and assigned to Okinawa prefecture as part of the final defense of the Japanese home islands against the American invasion. It was annihilated during the Battle of Okinawa.

Two Airforce officers walk up to the house of Mr & Mrs Akashiba. After waiting a few minutes the couple comes to the door.

Head officer "Mr Akashiba, The Emporer wanted us to personally give his thanks for your sons sacrifice for the Empire"

Mrs Akashiba leans against her husband for support, he stands still waiting for more.

Head officer "Your son was was an Ace Zero pilot aboard the CVL Zuiho, he was shot down 4 days ago defending his ship from enemy air
attacks off the coast of India. The Emporer wanted you to know personally he had over 61 missions flown and 7 kills"

Mr Akashiba nods in affirmation of his sons skill.

Head officer hands Mr Akashiba a document "Here is a letter from the Emporer personally, he adds that Akashiba is the highest Ace killed in the war and if all our pilots do as good as him the capitalist do not stand a chance"

The two officers bow, turn and leave.

Mr & Mrs Akashiba go back into the house to deal with their loss.

I-164 had been patroling of the western coast of India looking for enemy shipping suddenly they spot a lone transport, rising to the surface they finish off the ship, it was fleeing to Bombay.

The sub wars had seem to be very quiet I get occasional hits all around but in no one specific place. After this attack I decided to tally up and see just how effective these units have been.

This at the cost so far of 5 subs (not counting 5 midgets)
2 lost to DC, 3 lost to enemy minefields.

It seems it doesn't pay to stick ones nose into harbors. The last sub lost recently was at Perth harbor after I-20's midget raid apparently scott mined the harbor, it sunk the next sub coming in.

All this pails to the greatest gift so far, the 1 torpedo hit on the CV Enterprise, and the missed shot on the CV Lexington, this valuable intel alone even without the hit was worth the service so far in the war. As their location down in Southern Australia allowed me to advance my invasion of India without fear of American carrier intervention.

Air Production
Yes this is a joint AAR, and I'm giving intel but its for others to learn from my mistakes.
And for Scott to fear!

I am posting my aircraft pools below.

As you can see I have a good pool of zero's, as well as production. But attrition and battle uses them up also.

I am secure in Oscars as they don't get much action and have just turned them off.

I produced way to many VAL's and Kates B1N, B2N initially, I could have not upgraded these to such high levels but was worried about
an early carrier action or engagement would wipe out my minor pools.

Why B1N, well there are about 100 engines this uses, they fly off the mini KB so why not, actually should have produced 10, but somehow upgraded another factory to B1N by mistake. Needless to say in about 4 months these will completely shut down and once gone the CV's will be upgraded to B2N.

The worst area I have is Sally's, It takes a while to upgrade all the other aircraft to this, I have front line units upgraded and am working on back areas, but for the ASW patrols older styles work just as well.

In the end I overproduced Vals, Kates but have a nice buffer for the coming year. I am low on HI which I will show in the next few days.

March 27th 1942

LGen Tadusi "Sir, our recon underestimated their strength, they have at least 1 Australian, 1 Indian and 2/3 of the British division plus more. Our skill is better but they are very numerous"

March 28th 1942

40 miles NE of Calcutta

Ltc Tsukamoto commander of the 16th Recon Reg looks over the low hill. Before him meanders the Hooghly river, his orders cross that river and cut the road that leads NE out of Calcutta. A dust cloud is noticed coming from the NE, it appears to be a British Recon Regiment, he counts over 18 Brems, 18 Humber 1's, their force seems larger but they are currently marching in line, no indication of sighting his force. There is a small bridge below he intends to cross. He looks back at his 7 T97 tanks and his forces, yes we must secure this road.

He gives the order to attack and immediatly the Japanese troops storm over the hill, the British though stronger are not ready for combat and caught by surprise and quickly sent retreating to the north.

The round table is surrounded by men with grim looks. What had once been a rising sun with little resistance had now turned into an enemy that was bringing more and more forces against the Empire.

Java Commander "Sir we are still chasing the remnants of the Dutch in Java only a few bases left to be cleaned out then our 3 divisions will need a little rest before the next assault"

North Pacific Command "Sir we have captured Attu and Amchitka, the enemy is at Adak and are building the base, they are flying bombers out currently. Our last transport group was chased by an enemy carrier for 4 days but avoided them with the help of our Glen subs. We need reinforcements to deal with this threat"

Yamamoto "We cannot be everywhere at once. Let us decide what to take care of first. As I see it they have 1 allied carrier at Ceylon with the British, 1 allied carrier in the North Pacific and the Enterprise was damaged probably still in Australia, the Lexington can be anywhere. Samurai's take this information and plan out the Month of April, I feel a change in the wind, we have lost over 17 transports the last couple of days, this is unacceptable. The allied command is getting stronger. We must strike a decisive victory and quickly.

Feurer Krieg - Your words are well headed, as this is my first time playing Japan, I was overcome with victory disease and now am paying the price, per high command rethinking of our long term goal is being done.

2 Japanese Regiments entered Mandalay from the west with 3 supporting artillary units, they ran into 20 units. Quickly they setup guns and began an artillary barrage to disperse the hoard, while the 2 Regiments quickly dug in to face the onslaught. Till reinforcements could arrive.
This was literally the feeling of stepping in deep do do. And I was ready to be bounced out.

It appears the Artillary definatly took the stuffing out of the poorly trained troops. I was lucky the last regiment showed up, or I would have been bounced out.


On a sad note our troops at Suva attacked and meet the reverse results a horrible 1 to 2 loss with many casualties. We need to bring in the artillary!

Here are the troops at Mandalay

I am posting my economic status once again to show the mistake's I have made for others to learn.

We are playing scenario two.

Once again I lay the blame on aggresiveness vs caution. Head others when they say don't tinker a lot for a month! Anyway I expanded some armaments and vehicles as people stated that would be needed (not really sure if needed in scen 2) As can be seen I have plenty of armaments, ok I think vehicles.

The killer is my HI. As you notice I take 35k drop every month for pilot training. I thus need over 1k+ HI every day and have averaged under this. This was April 3rd. Since I have shut down armaments (which consume a lot) as the picture has improved to 2k to 3k day increase.

For the navy I expanded merchants just a little, but have let those two ride for the moment as the HI pool is to low to tamper with otherwise.

I also have just turned back on my Oscars and Nells, as the airbattles over Burma and India have heated up. It appears aircraft do not consume as much as Navy and Armaments.

I believe others are between 100 to 200k HI by now or more, thus I am way behind the curve. But anticipating I wanted to go to India if possible, and not wanting divisions and troops coming in understrength. I am not to unhappy having a lot of armaments sitting around. They will get used thats for sure.

And for you Scott, don't worry, it won't be the economy that kills me! Probably the Prince of Wales.

April 7th thru 13th 1942

India

We moved units around Calcutta and recaptured Jessore, its the 3rd time its changed hands. Bombardments by both sides at Calcutta leads to even exchange.

We have an unit NE of Jessore cutting the rail line.

Airbattles have been intense, I have 27 sally's operating out of Diamond Harbor lvl3 plus 2 units of Oscars, that battle over Calcutta, losses work out about even to slight advantage to Japan depending if both fighter groups fly. Although he mangled the bombers once.

Burma
This has been the battle of the skies over Mandalay with Zero's contesting with Hurricanes, P-40's. At first I had the edge but Scott quickly reinforced forcing me to back down. I lost over 20 Betties/Nells on one raid that went in unescorted.

This all came to the conclusion on April 13th when over 2 1/2 divisions assualted and captured Mandalay. This has to come as a shock to the allies as we bagged a lot of planes on the ground as the allied forces retreated to Lashio.

End of day losses 75 allied planes destroyed 2 Japanese planes.

Lost in Airbattles over Calcutta/Mandalay and on the ground Mandalay April 13th.

Java

The dutch are defending in the moutains once again slowing the release of the divisions there. I will take more time. We bombard, bomb, shock and still they hold. Very dissapointed.


Australia

We have arrived at the outskirts of Kathrine south of Darwin. He has 9 units at Darwin, 1 moved south and 6 units at Katherine. I have one armoured unit south of Katherine attempting to take the city this day vs 1 unknown unit. This should cutoff supply.


Suva

We pulled all 3 divisions back to Nadi as we need artillary (ships, KB or guns) to neutralize the enemies artillary. Subs found were the POW and his staging base were.

We did not get a shot at POW, but sank 1 tanker (loaded with fuel), sank small AKL, and put a torpedo in AP. The POW left the area but he still has transports. Apparently Scott is using this to support Suva. It has been targeted for closure.

We have moved units tot he Northern Oilfields and are contesting strong forces there, so far even but we shall prevail.

We have moved units toward Chungking from the North.

We have moved the victorious units from Chengchow (after resting) to within 40 miles of Changsa, the next big battle will start as we see over 100k enemy troops in Changsa.

April 13th and 14th 1942

Daly Waters South of Darwin

Col Yoshitomo had driven his 8th Tank Regiment fast. They had landed at Wyndham several weeks ago and driven down the dusty roads to Katherine. Just before entering what he hoped was an empty town, his initial scouts reported over 6 enemy units. Yoshitomo was proud of his troops but they could not hope to handle this.

Orders came immediatly, head south towards Daly Waters, cut the supply line to Katherine and Darwin. As they approached Daly Waters on the 12th only 1 unit was reported by the scouts. Immediatly he ordered his forces to enter the town and destroy what he figured was a base force for the airfield.

As his tank crested the ridge he was shocked to find 2 Australian Battlion's in addition to the base force. There was no time for hesitation and against overwhelming odds. he ordered his Regiment to Banzai into the enemy lines.

As the sun set on the battlefield Col Yoshitomo pondered the day. Was it the Samurai spirit that carried them through the enemy dispersing and killing the fleeing Australians, surprise or luck? Yoshitomo didn't care 1/3 of his vehicles needed repair. He awaited orders from high command to his messaged "Japanese forces CAPTURE Daly Waters !!!"

Historical Fact

The first attack was made by carrier based aircraft on the Japanese submarine I-170 in the vicinity of the Hawaian Islands on 10 December 1941. The I-170 was sunk.
