My latest attempt.

The camera seems to pull out all the little nuances...the model looks fine on the shelf! [:D]

It's a Ju87G-2 Stuka "Kanonen Vogel"

And last one...

This was a kit by Academy and I have to say I was very impressed with how it went together. It was very precise and all the detail stays showing, even through the paint.

Nice camo job. I'm just reentering the modeling arena myself. How'd you do the camo?

Ju87G-2 Stuka "Kanonen Vogel"

I didn't know the 37mm-pods were that big. I bet they reduced max-speed quite a bit. I wonder how it performed when it was hunting tanks, since they had no DU-ammo. [:)]

Just good old brush and a not so steady hand. Seriously, looking at it close up, I'm a little disappointed now, I mean I like it and it looks quite cool (and I loved the Stuka), but close up, the warts in the painwork show. I must try and steady my hand a bit more. tbh, when I was taking the pictures, I saw some of the little things in the paintwork that are bothering me now, but I had already put the transfers on (the part of modelling I least care about). So I still need to perfect my painting skills. Close up shots show the paint work to be a little tardy, but from a small distance away it looks tidy (like the last shot).

I'm not really one for historical accuracy...so I paint it how I like. I get ideas from the net of camo jobs or maybe the box will show me, but I don't try to find the exact paint colours...if I have something close to hand that looks right, I use it. As an example, the brown is a satin colour. I wasn't going to use it at first and was instead going to buy a different colour, but when I saw it on, I decided it looked good and left it on.

The actual camo style was shown on the box and in the instructions.

I wasn't going to buy an "Academy" model, thinking they were some cheap make having never heard of them, but the guy in the shop said they are nice, detailed models and go together well...I couldn't agree more.

Also, being my "local shop", I decided to ask him to try and get me an He111 instead of buying one over the internet...he came good, with a Hasagawi (another make he highly recommends).

Looking forward to the big baby. [:D]

All together now!

Surprised I've taken so long to do 4 aircraft....I've always been an impatient sort

I would love an air brush, but over £100 was the price tag I saw...that's expensive!
Nice models JD! Your quoted comment above is the reason I haven't built a model since I was a teenager. I look at the pics on the model builder forums every now and then and drool over some of the finished ones, especially tanks and other vehicles. I cannot justify spending a huge amount of money on an airbrush and the time to learn the finer points of the art. I'd be happy to spend lots of time building the models if I thought I could get a decent end result by hand painting. Your post has restored my faith in the possibilty of doing it by hand though.

Cheers mate [&o]

Thx Jim.

I really enjoy it. As I said, I think it's taken me 5 months to do the 4 aircraft (3 of which are 1:72), but I'm just taking my time and doing them when I can/want to. It's very strange for me as I'm a very impatient person by nature...so I'm enjoying the fact I can control this side of me when modelling.

I see little nuances each time I build one and I ain to get better and better. The impatience of me might be coming through though, as although my next attempt is also a 1:72 scale, it's a bomber and it's bigger than the 1:48 scale I did.

But I've very much looking forward to it and want to do a good job, so I'll take extra time doing this one. I do love the He-111

The way I loom at it is the die hards do the spraying...I'm not that die hard. I do it for fun and relaxation. and it helps a load!

Well done JD……….truly wish I had the time, looks therapeutic.

If you wish to get the airbrush look of fading lines with aerosol cans , mask your camouflage patterns with cotton ..[;)]

My next one

Me109 G10

For all you hard core aircraft buffs out there, I know the decals and the paint system don't go...and I know the paint scheme is "a bit early" for a G10, but I just couldn't help myself

mmmm...just noticed the yellow "smudge" on the spine of the fuselage...must've got it on my finger when I was touching up the nose!

Actually the whole fuselage of the 109 is messed up and so is the canopy...is this 1:72 scale ? Check out the Hasegawa 1:32 G-10, G-14, G-4 or the K-4 I have them all...still need to do G-10. Here is a nice finished model (not mine, I wish!)
