Screen shot - Singapore area map changes

Just a quick snapshot after incorporating the map changes in DBB-DEI...plus a change of my own simulating the shallow nature of the north coast of Sumatra just across from Singers...

TF should now route through the Singapore hex.

The only bad thing is, if there are still mines in that hex, won't that cause ships to hit them that normally would be able to avoid them?

Explain...are you refering to the fact that I am causing shipping to pass through the Singapore Strait which is in the Singapore hex? Or try to force their way across the "reef" on the North Coast of Sumatras? Whereas before they could divert around Singapore?

I have seen countless times ships going thru the Singapore hex while actually transiting north or south. If there were still mines from the Allies in the hex they have a chance to hit them. I am just thinking out load really that since it is a 40 mile hex the mines would actually be in the shipping channel used to enter the port. But the game doesn't care, it just see's the mines and shipping that is just transiting runs the risk of mine damage.

I hope that made more sense :)

Almost ready to take this thing for a test-drive...

Want to run through the DBB Errata thread to see if I can correct any issues already identified...

OK so now how to bundle this beast...

After running through the DBB errata thread I updated one or two devices and the TOJO engine.and updated Japanese Air groups to reflect the engine change.

So I have a vastly different LOC file, a tweaked device file, a new grp file, a new pwhexe.dat file, six new map .bmp's reflecting map changes i made...

Maybe i'll try and figure out how to set-up a google site to host this mess...

Other small differences include the locations of 1st Mysore ISF and 1st Hyderabad ISF. Kirby notes that these units were Airfield Defense Troops. As such I have located the 1st Mysore at Kuantan and the 1st Hyderabd to Kuala Lumpur.

1st Hyderabad was doing airfield defense at Kota Bharu attached to 8th Indian Brigade, 1st Mysore was on airfield defence somewhere in Kelentan State under direct command of 9th Indian Division (location not specified).

Thank you sir...

In the Australian Official History, Kota Bharu, Gong Keda & Machang airfields were defended by 1 Hyderabad & 1 Mysore.
These were all within 20 miles of Kota Bharu.

The Bns were attached to 8 Bde, not part of it.

A development in the Economic Tweak Thread ( Post #246 of that thread) is causing me to re-work the economy again....changes coming shortly.

Essentially a tripling of Resource Center Output and Industry Resource Input, in addition, a tripling of At-Start on Map Resources and Daily Resource Allotments.
------

The discussion of how Australia fits into the picture also has me examining some interesting choices for the Allied player...however I need some guideline basis for the US supply situations... I have always viewed the US as a cornucopia.

With my Mod changes OZ will be running a 24,000 RP/day deficit.

If the Allied player feeds resources to OZ...OZ will reward the Allied player with 5500 supply/day. If not fed resources OZ's workers become temper-mental and will periodically shut down work until OZ's own resource centers make up the deficit...haven't tested to see how temper-mental they become. The reason for this is the all or nothing production system...

So in Oz you may have a factory shutdown for a day because there are not enough resources to feed it... then fire up for a day or two as the base built up a resource surplus which the industry can eat.

This is all well and good...however...as Blackhorse pointed out...why not simply ship in the extra 5500 supply points/day that OZ may quit producing since that is much more efficient then shipping resources? It is more efficient, unless the US has a supply crunch that prevents them from supply 5500 supply points per day to OZ...to make up for the lost OZ production.

But did they have a supply crunch? Time to crack open the green books on Global Logistics and Strategy...

Continuing our examination of the US economy in relation to OZ.

In Stock AE the US produces 8280 + 65,000 = 73,280 supply points per day.
In Stock AE OZ also produces an additional 5,010 supply per day.

These points come from a combination of HI, LI, Refineries and a big daily allotment in the East Coast.

In this mod the US will produce 65,000 + 6200 supply per day = 71,200 supply points per day.
And OZ has the potential to produce 5540 supply per day.

So the US has two options:
1. Bring in the extra 24,000 RP per day (which are accounted for in the US) or,
2. Ignore OZ and transport an additional 5,000 supply per day from the US or not.

Lets look at Option 2-
In stock AE - the OZ/US combination produces 78,290 supply points per day.

In this Mod AE - the OZ/US combination has the potential to produce 76740 supply points per day. However since the US player chooses door #2 - in essence 5540 points (actually less) are removed from OZ/US production since OZ is no longer getting the resources. So the OZ/US combination now has around 71,000 supply points per day.

If Option #1 is chosen the US needs to move 19,000 points of extra stuff to OZ to receive the supply benefit from OZ.

-----

Hmmm. Wonder if bases can be made to upgrade?

In other words the US East Coast receives 65,000 supply/ day...wonder if i can figure out a workable way for the base to upgrade so that I can change the daily supply allotment on a yearly basis.

1) Remember to drop in some increased oil production in the US for OZ and Pearl. [;)] That uses up ships too.

2) Can bases have an arrival date? IIRC they could in WITP. If so, you can have a new 'nothing else' base arrive with a daily supply stipend as a work around for increasing the daily supply at a base.

I don't know if bases can have an arrival date. But, you can have multiple LI centers at each base. So you could have 15-20 LI of various sizes starting disabled( say 365 - 1095 for 1 to 3 year repairs ) at every base in the USA. You should easily be able to tailor your supply ramp up.

Did Pearl have a refinery?

I have abandoned the oil/refinery combination to represent bunker coal in Manchuria and have instead opted for a Daily Fuel Allotment in Harbin. The sequence of Oil/Fuel production makes this a better option.

If the Japanese want to transport this "Fuel" to Japan to feed industry they should use xAK's and xAKL's and not tankers.

Any suggestions on US Supply ramp up values?

As pointed out - Stock AE US Supply production = 73,280 points.

Did Pearl have a refinery?

I just went and looked in Scen 28 (DaBabes) and Scen 1 and there is none. I then went and looked at a Scen 1 PBM I've had going over a year, and none. But I know that when I was playing the AI before that time that Pearl burned more oil than my old '69 Chevy did.

So... maybe it had one upon release but that got fixed up? It does have heavy industry - maybe on first release heavy industry was taking oil for input? Don't know, but it doesn't need oil now.

So make that "have the USA produce some oil for OZ!" [:D]

Thank you very much for your work on this mod and your research on the question. Maybe this should be on the Economy Thread, but I notice that in your mod you have 10 oil to make 10 fuel (stock was 10 oil to make 9 fuel and 1 supply). My question is why the close ratio of oil to fuel. My understanding is that from a quick "internet" search shows that 1 barrel of oil will produce about 3 gallons of marine diesel. I know that we don't know what an oil point or a fuel point represents, but why doesn't 10 oil points in produces, let's say 3 fuel points?

I may have answered my question is that fuel is used for HI also so it is not just diesel fuel for ships. So do you know if IRL 1 input of "oil" into a refinery produces 1 output of "fuel" or is there some wastage in the refinery process? Thank you.

It's all an abstraction...there is no hard and fast 1 point of this necessarily equals 1 point of that...but yes fuel is more than just fuel for ships.
