Before it gets locked up, let me summarize.

Don't use "Jap" because it's offensive to some Americans who are poltically correct.  Our Japanese friends are not as sensitive.  But "Nip" may be worse, or not, dependeing on the sensibilites of someone, somewhere.  Some who use "Jap" don't mean to offend, but because someone says thay might, they'll use something else instead, if they choose to, or not.  Some will say what they want; they don't care if they're offensive or not.  Some simply want to offend.

Me?  I'm hungry.  Gotta find chow.

ORIGINAL: Shark7I think you will find the majority of us 'regular Joe's' aren't politically correct.

although it is not my name, I find it insulting that you used the term 'regular joe' - i'm sure josephs everywhere now have hurt feelings but they are too insulted to speak up so I will do so for them - I think you should use the term regular joseph. [:D]

Well...get over it! [:'(]

It's all about context. Either that or Nabisco's going to be in a lot of trouble with a product called "Cheese Nips". [:D]

Using Jap doesn't bother me, it's just a shortened version of the word. Much like Brit doesn't cause me any offence. Honestly, the whole thing just feels like people looking to be offended and telling me how to think.
But you have to feel insulted, Dixie!
Don't you know that we said: "Jeder Tritt ein Britt" in WW1? So this is clearly a racistic insult! Understood?

So Brit is an insult, no matter what the brits think about it! [:-]

Well, to be honest, one has to understand a language to be offended in the first place. You can't really be offended if you don't know what is being said. Which does bring up another good point, sometimes it is simply misunderstandings that can lead to offenses.

Gosh, when I was a VERY young kid in the '50s we would spit on ants, or drop rocks on them and yell, "Bombs over Tokyo!"  Guess that was not PC.  Course we also sang, "Whistle While You Work, Nixon is a jerk, Eisenhower has more power, Whistle while you work."  How prophetic!

If someone views most people as good honest human beings than they'll be offended rarely , on the other hand if someones essence of their very existance is the quest to find an offensive or derogatory term somewhere no matter if its intended or not, my guess is they'll be offended many times over the course of a day..

I am offended by the term "Hell" being used within the game. I demand that the DB be edited to show the SB2C as the "Heckdiver" or "Hades-Diver"[:@]

And "Avenger" is so violent. How about "MakeNiceOPlane".

And "Wildcat" should be "PuddyCat".

And don't get me started on "Boise".

"Hellcat" should of course be "Heckcat", "Hurricane" should be "Light Breeze" and "Mosquito" should be "Basically Harmless Insect Just Doing What It Must To Survive".

Ok come on now. You guys kill me. The good old days when you could call a spade a spade is gone. Now you have to call a spade an equal member of a deck of cards where everyone's a winner.

I'm sure society will survive. Remember when we were young and growing up and our parents and peers lectured us. Telling us how soft and spoiled society has become? How they lived through the Great Depression, World War2 and were drafted and never had the things we had? How lucky we were and so on and so forth all of which when in one ear and out the other?

How music used to be real and the garbage we listened to with screaming maniacs banging on guitars was nothing more junk...

We'll get by and the new PC generation will soon get older and when they have kids they'll be complaining about "how it used to be"

I'm offended that anybody pays any attention at all to the "PC" crowd. [:@]  Aren't they why Matrix put the nice green button on the forum. [&:]  (And though I've been told that it isn't, I still suspect that "PC" is the cyrilic for "BS" [;)])

I think "PC" is dyslexic (sorry, "grammatically challenged", or whatever the current ******** phrase is) for "BS".

Things change. I don't like a lot of it myself, but that's life. Its not something I get worked up over. I have a lot of other far more important things to get worked up over-like surviving every day in a changing and difficult economy and managing a way to be able to retire. It just makes me laugh at some of the gloom and doom stuff that gets attributed to the PC stuff.

This is nothing new. When the military changed the regulations and DI's were no longer able to hit or swear at recruits there was a lot of belly aching. Predictions of doom and question about how the new soldiers would fight were rampant. The old school used to bemoan the "old days when the military was tougher" and the new PC solf regulations being implemented by the lefties and liberals would destroy Americas military. These new recruits would run away at the first sight of the big bad Soviet Army.

Well it didn't work out that way.
