Well I finally saw the movie and is well worth seeing. A decent evenings entertainment. Not sure why people thing they are smart by trying bring down the experience.
I put the unhappy people posting in this thread as nothing more then either a guilty conscience or people with too little imagination and too much anger at the world. Their loss.

Or I just don't like the way James Cameron writes a scripts...which really was my issue with the movie.

Why can't it be sold over here....... is it another slap in the face for free speech?
Apparently the organisation in question got an injunction against sales in England. Fat lot of good it did them though as I got mine from eason.ie (the Irish based book seller). I wonder if they've heard of the Internet? Seems a bit pointless to block sales of a book in one country when you can simply order from any other. Doh! [:)]
Ok, I have to admit I'm curious about this "issue" with Scientology. What's the rub all about ? I don't have any bias, I just haven't heard of this before.

Meanwhile some Avatar viewers are experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts because they will never be able to actually experience the world of Pandora. Linkage.

Idiots. Dysfunctional idiots. It's just a movie. (I would write that last sentence in all caps with an angry smiley, but that would just be tacky.)

Geez. I think some of you are looking way too deep into this. I saw it and loved it. I didn't see any politics or religion or racism or any of that junk. Just a fun packed 3 hours with lots of special effects and battle scenes. I saw it twice too! Come on, you're expecting a good solid plot from a sci-fi action film? I enjoyed it for what it was.
I remember when the movie 300 came out people in this same forum were complaining that it wasn't realistic even though it was a fantasy movie.

Trust me -- the politics at least was there.
And did you notice that things ended badly for nearly everybody except the hero and heroine? Lots of deaths on both sides, including all but one of the hero's friends. And let's not forget that, in the background, Earth is doomed.

But it was just a movie. Made in Hollywood. With special effects. Not real life. So what if everyone suffered except for the hero and heroine? And his friends went down fighting too. Why? Because it's an action movie. Not to be taken seriously, which a lot of people on this forum are.
I saw it as a kick butt action film and I enjoyed it.
I still say people are looking way too deep into this.
I love the colonel! It's a shame he was on the wrong side. Did the actor that played him ever play in any other movies? Heck, I can't check because I don't know his name. I wonder if a cast list exist somewhere on the internet.
Also, I want to say that I like your quotation in your sig!

Agreed - great movie if you can detach from RL for 3 hours - but some can't, so I can leave it like that. I didn't waste £30 and I'm not likely to waste it again when I take the wife and kids to see it again.
And the colonel was only good because]/i] of the side he was on. Though it would've been interesting to see him on the other side.

Good point! I still liked him though! But I always had a soft spot for bad guys with personality!

The colonel was played by Stephen Lang. I thought he did the best job of anyone in the movie.
Meanwhile, idiots are naming their children after Avatar characters and places.

Meanwhile idiots on the net are quoting The Sun!! [:'(]
Seriously, I don't know if you get The Sun in the States, but it's a tabloid piece of crap in this country with sensationalist "news" to grab readers. If you want to read The Sun, you have to take EVERYTHING with a MASSIVE punch of salt.

What? You calling me what? [:@]
Seriously, I know about The Sun. But I thought the story was funny and belonged in the thread before the thread died. And I bet there is a small kernel of truth in the article, i.e., one or two kids named Pandora or for Avatar characters. That would not surprise me.
I would put nothing past young people today regarding the naming of children. As a high school teacher, the names I encounter today are often beyond bizarre.

I'll bet you're probably right too...there will be some poor kids named after the characters and have to go through life with the name hanging over them!

Like the Sun's (or Daily Mail's?) frontpage where they put a picture of the German national football team's coach on their frontpage and where they did some photoshop'ing and put some early WW1-helmet on his head? [:D]
I wish I could remember the headline, help me out, Judge !
(At a time when UK's tabloids insisted that "football's coming home" - and where then, during the 1996 EU championship's semi-final (vs Germany) Gascoigne [looking like a sandbag, he had overweight] sooo missed the deliveries harhar [:D] - I'm not a big football fan tho)

We got something worse than that. It's called "MSNBC". It's absolute rubbish passed off as "news".

I do believe you're talking about Fox News.
