Gotta wonder why that 'gun' didn't fire on any of the other 140 landing craft running under it's gaze?
Sorry, M4.

I knew he was sighted. He'd been sighted since he passed the southern tip of L'il Island. But I couldn't wait any longer for the turn into the beach. I was aching to start reporter's notes for the Times.

BTW, the range was nearly a full klik to L'il Island!!

REMEMBER TOM COLLINS!

Word passed down the line from man to man as the weary Marines struggled up the heights. New york Times correspondent, Tom "Ripper" Collins had been killed when the Weasel he was riding in was blown to pieces by a Japanese shore gun. The Gyrenes had adopted Collins as one of their own because of his unflinching bravery under fire and his ability to drink any three of them under the table. He was a true gentleman, respected in every house of ill repute from San Francisco to Sydney.
As they charged over the crest and into the outskirts of Kamogawa village, a cry was heard that would strike terror into the hearts of the tenacious Japanese defenders.
HOOOH HAAAAH!!!! REMEMBER TOM COLLINS!!!!

Resistance from the militia is starting to stiffen. They've rallied at a couple of areas, but we're breaking up the CFs one by one.
Rangers moving up the backside of Acorn Hill encounter, and destroy, an 81mm Mortar emplacement. The battle for the peak has begun in earnest.
LSTs in Chiba Bay fire aimlessly into the hills, trying to supress a hidden cave.
The US Army is at the outskirts of the village of Wada and preparing to move in. We hate house-to-house. Someone contact the
Missouri!
My M4A1 Flame tank seems to have run out of jellied gas. The nozzle melted from being overheated, I guess.

The Tetrarchs and Locusts searching for survivors around "The Middle" encounter Japanese tanks. Two are destroyed as the third desperately reverses into the covering forest.
Tme Marines continue to consolidate the beachhead and advance up the heights and into the urban area ahead. Assault squads destroy a light tank with flamethrowers and bazooka shots. A Corsair flying over the town spots more tanks arriving on the scene.

Rangers move through the woods encountering the occasional CF. They're gathering in smaller numbers now.
2Lt Nelson lead his Ranger squad into an outlying building in Wada village. Much to the surprise of Nelson and the crew of a So-Ki, parked on the far side of the building.
As the Jap crew desperately rotated the pintel to bring the twin 20mm AA to bear on their new threat, the Rangers plugged the So-Ki with a bazooka round and blew through the side like it was corrugated tin.
Rangers approaching the heights of Acorn Hill dispatched the crew of another 81mm mortar and found the poor souls that had been barraged by Destroyers for two rounds. It looked to be around a hundred women. They wouldn't surrender.
So they got shot up between a Ranger platoon and a Rifle platoon coming up from the face of Acorn Hill. Even the immobilized LVT(A)4 got a few shots on the retreating militia.
We'll have to press the attack as they refuse to accept our offers. The only way off the hill is through the Rangers, or over the cliffs.
A couple of LSTs succumbed to the mighty
Spirit of the Samurai . That gun is a menace to navigation and must be a priority target.
US Army has secured the Tatyamo Road to Wada village. Acorn Hill will be subdued within the next few minutes.

U.S.M.C. and Navy Seabee units sweep into the south side of Kamogawa, pushing back militia and regulars. The strongpoint west of the Canal is assaulted, but not breached. All contact with airborne units in "The Middle" has been lost.
