The new counter graphic is nice. Where to find it?

Counter graphic is in the mods forum, IIRC.
Leningrad receives supply by Sea, so the troops there will not starve if they can hold the ports on both sides of lake Lagoda.
TURN 16 - NORTH
I have been able to execute some successful counter attacks into the flank of AGN here, using my positions west of the Volkhov.
Carnage had turned his focus to attacking Leningrad directly and left a regimental-sized unit to hold part of his Volkhov flank, so that's where I focused my attack.
I think he should have cleared the line of the Volkhov river first, to secure his flank, and gone for the city in the snow or in '42.
(Note - images and remainder of the Turn 16 AAR to follow as I am having internet performance issues this evening).

I think you have a decent chance to hold all those ports feeding Leningrad, so if he wants the place he'll have to do it the hard way.

TURN 16 CENTRE
In the centre it's been a mixed bag - a few successful local attacks and a few repulsed.

TURN 16 SOUTH_CENTRE
Carnage launched a wide but shallow offensive here to cause as many casualties as possible before the end of the good campaigning weather and managed to pocket some troops. Luckily, I had enough reserves to call on to restore my line.

TURN 16 - SOUTH
The limited offensive operations continued south and much damage was done to my forces, but the line held.
In the Kuban Carnage continues to push forward. I'm a bit puzzled by this tactic given that I have clearly seen what he's attempting and I am responding, but maybe he knows something I don't.
One question I have is what the trigger is for releasing the troops along the southern borders? If I can get Carnage to do that somehow, I'll have plenty to meet him with.

Can you please post the Leningrad map with counters showing true defensive values?
Thanks!

TURN 17
Sorry, but I am no longer posting maps with my defensive values as the NKVD has advised that this is a security breach and I will be shot if I repeat the offence!
FRONT
Carnage now pushes along the Volkhov, eliminating my bridgeheads as I believe he should have done originally.
Minimal action in the centre.
In the south, he has largely adopted a strategy of attack and pull back, attriting my forces before winter. However, I believe I can afford the men.
In the Kuban he has pushed even more infantry divisions into the salient, as have I. It will be interesting to see what winter brings here.

TURN 17 OOB.
I would value comments on the relative force strengths at this stage, vs. history and also vs. other PBEM games.
If I recall correctly, Axis and Soviet numbers of men should be about on par at this time, whereas I now have a slight superiority.

TURN 17 LOSSES
My sense from what I have read is that my casualty figures are lower than the historical losses and that the Axis have suffered relatively high losses. The ration of Axis killed to Soviet killed is less than 1/3, while disabled is running at 1/3.
Discounting the 1.8m captured (which I hope won't be repeated) I am quite happy with a 1/3 ratio as I had expected worse.
Comments (in both game terms and historical terms) very much appreciated here. How well or badly am I doing? Can Carnage afford to maintain these rates of loss going forward?

I think it is too early to judge. If he attacks during the snow and creates more pockets as was done historically at Bryansk and Vyazma then he may get closer to the Historical benchmark numbers that we used during testing of 2.3M -2.6M captured.
If he doesn't attack I think you will be ahead numerically. I think all eyes will be on the Kuban to see how you end up strategically.

OK... as you wish...
BTW, the Leningrad would fall in 1-2 turns in current condition with direct attack if the Axis player would be one of the very good ALPHA/BETA testers... [;)]

Why the cryptic, snide comments? You don't have stake in this fight. I find your comment of 'one of the very good ALPHA/BETA testers' to be insulting and disrespectful of the players in this AAR. Obviously if either side was played by an experienced player the situation would be different.
redmarkus4,
Thanks for the AAR. I think you are doing quite well, but as BigAnorak stated it is too early to tell, many things are still in the balance and could go either way. Winter will be your friend.

So you are saying that players with six months to a year more experience would do better? genius

I wish you had stayed in Kolpino. Make him pay for those urban hexes. Now If you want to bump him out , you have to cross that river. And now you have given him a nice resting place for the coming blizzard.

He took Pushkin from me and I pulled back from Kolpino and the adjacent hex before he took them as well. I had to make that judgement based on what I knew about my CVs and volume of reinforcements. At the moment my focus is on holding Leningrad. Any counter offensive will be coming from the east or south, not out of the city itself.
Apollo 11 - I have no doubt that an Alpha/Beta tester would kick my butt. This is my very first PBEM game as the Soviets ever

TURN 18 (MUD)
Well, I have survived until the mud and still hold Leningrad, Moscow, Kursk, Stalino and Rostov, so I feel pretty positive about not having my butt totally kicked before the end of summer '41. If I lose eventually, I will feel that I have saved myself from total humiliation.
In the Kuban, the mud appears to have wreaked havoc with the Axis supply lines and the defensive CV values I am seeing called for a hasty counter-attack, which had some success. We'll see how his supply state recovers next turn and whether he decides to pull back to Kerch, which is what I would certainly do. If he holds in place, I think I have a good chance of hammering him come winter.

TURN 18 FRONT
Minimal action to report along the front. The process of fortifying the line continues and reinforcements are arriving at a good rate and being moved to plug the worst holes. My next hurdle is to survive the snow weeks intact, so I am trying to minimise any adjustments to the line get the best possible entrenchment values.
