Now that this game is done I can peek and post my remarks. Interesting see posts by people going off on something they almost know nothing about.
- Bill and I agreed to play with these settings after we had played through 60 turns of beta 2 and significant sov play balanced issues. We BOTH didn't feel the changes were enough to balance, since nothing with regard to blizzard was changed for axis. Maybe Bill forget this part.
- These were not EASY settings for those that have no clue what those are let me tell you... 120/80 on all settings. We had forts 75/50, because what we experienced in 42 was a line 3-4 units deep of sov forts at 3-4. Since blizzard is so harsh on axis, they are really in no shape to attack until 6-7/42 which gives sov player lots of time to build a Maginot line. I still think units fort too quickly and cause a WWI style line building in early 42. Morale was set at 80 because of the too effective attacks in 41 and definitely 42 that we saw our last game. Maybe some of the changes in beta 3 will change that. Also, since moral was still 100 for axis, their units got no special benefit. All the rest of our settings where 100/100
- I re-ran our AGN with the forces involved at 100/100 for all settings. With the forces Bill had allocated and position in our game it DIDN'T make any difference to taking Leningrad on t5. Not sure he told you but on T5 I had most of 16th, 18th, and 1st Pz all about 10-14 hexes from Leningrad. On t4 I HQ build-up 1st pz. On t5 Bill had about 4 inf units close up to my line, this made it easy for my inf os 16th and 18th army to break a hole through for 4 div of a full corps from 1st Pz grp to attack Leningrad. Bill had ONLY ONE unit (mech div) in a Leningrad hex and the rest of the cities around it were empty. So a hasty attack by 3 div of that pz corps (all had 48 MP from HQ build-up) was enough to displace that mech div.
* only thing I will say in defense of Bill, that I didn't know until last night, was the armaments bug in beta 4 and that it might have reduced his units. So I will give him that.
- bottom line is I didn't put a gun to Bill's head to play with these settings. I played through our last game on beta 2 as axis until the disappearing armies bug(6th, 9th, 11, 1st Pz) ended our game when Rom switched sides after Constanta was invaded.
- I had asked Bill if we could try and recreate our first 5 turns on 100/100 settings (now on beta 5 too) to see how much would change and what the situation in Leningrad would have been. I was NOT trying to impose this on Bill for anything more than just some research value as too how much the settings hurt the sov player. That was my only intention. Now that I re-ran AGN with 100/100 I know more, however, it now is invalidated because of the armaments bug with I didn't know about until recently.
- I'm a bit distrubed by all the 'girl' like chattiness on this thread about this game and how I was 'making' Bill play under an unfair pretense. Once again no gun to his head.
Many of you like to talk out of your ass just to cause drama where there is none. In the future maybe get both sides before you speak about a topic that you only know half the story and look like a fool in doing so. Although the comments were mostly by people I already assume to be fools and thus are excused since they never had any of soft skills or common sense to begin with.
