I am currently working on a 1/350 USS Arizona.

I'm going all out on this one, with photo-etch and brass barrels for all the guns.

Lots of carving up of plastic on this one...

It all started when I bought a 1/700 San Francisco. The photo-etch was extremely tiny, so I wanted to warm up with a larger model first. I eventually want to build 1/700 US pre-dreads. Somebody (Loose Cannon, I think) makes a USS Long Island, and I may get that one for old sentiment's sake.

Just read your initial post. Regarding the scale even in 1:700 a lot is possible.

It's the Banner one, though I think they are one and the same.

I've been mostly playing with the photo-etch right now, and cutting up plastic. All the walls around the casemates are being replaced with brass. Same goes for the towers on the tripods. I'm hoping I can fold them carefully enough.

I was trying to take a pic of one of the 5"/25 guns I put together. I replaced the plastic barrel with a brass one and added the railing/fuse setting station. It's tough getting a clear pic up close.

Those are great pictures of Nagato. The work and level of detail is quite impressive.

I was checking my primary shopping spot. Freetime Hobbies and noticed that someone finally makes naval colors in arcrylics. This will make my life easier.

Yes, they are the same molds. Good luck with your efforts! I plan on doing the same to mine,but the tasks seem daunting! Post pics when you can because I will need all the help I can get on this one!

I almost pulled the tripper on the ginormous Trumpeter Saratoga... Initially 150 bucks, down to 25 on clearence at Hobby Lobby... what the hell was I thinking not to get it and store it for when I have more room in the sunroom...

Oh well, right now I am focusing on weathering, and kit bashing my rolling stock for my father and I's steam/diesel transition Santa Fe train layout...

If anyone doesn't model railroad... I HIGHLY recommend it. Expensive and time consuming. Just like every hobby should be don't even get me started on deer hunting.

We just took down the old layout and are starting a brand new as we speak.... walk in, layout on all four walls...excited is an understatement.

Who needs 1/700 when you can have 1/87 (or even better, 1/160)?  [8D]  [:D]

Somebody did have a pre-release 1/72 Bismark at the big toy fair in Germany a few years back, but I don't think it ever made it into production.  It probably would have cost $1000 or more.

The big German rail gun Dora in 1/35 was insane enough.

Hi all,

BTW, around 20+ years ago my uncle and his modelers club (in Kutina, Croatia) build huge size French battleship Richelieu (it was radio controlled and had moving large caliber weapons, smoke from guns, smoke from smokestack and it sailed fine)!

For plans they used my very own 1:400 model of Richelieu!!!

I will try to find some pictures...

That is definitely a steal. I've been tempted to use the weekly 40% coupon on the Alabama they have here.

While dealing with the Arizona, I've been letting myself get destracted by a 1/350 PC-461 that I bought. It looks to be a relatively light build, with a one-piece hull and top. It is a resin kit, though. I bought replacement 20mm and 3" guns for it.

I've had a soft spot for subchasers since UV. (only the strong survive)

The Arizona had two empty tubs on top which were slated for 1.1" guns (with 3" guns as a possible interim). Must fight the urge to put something in there. I bought a replacement set of 5"/51s and will be making the casemates "open" to see the whole thing. The turrets in the kit look so bland.

Beautiful comment. Just brilliant! I get a big laugh when I see what the fashionistas put their fall array of 3d camo and electronic deer sniffing gear/ satellite actuated bait feeders etc. on sale in the Cabela's catelog.

Of course, if you want to up the ante on cost, tinkering, part fitting, etc, do like one of my hunting buddies does and kit-bash your own .45 auto. Yeaaaagh!
