Well said Schlemiel.

Weirdly enough I'm one of the few people on the forum who knows exactly what one of his current opponents looks like cause a pic was recently posted of him. It was actually pretty close to what I'd imagined - three eyes, goggle-eyed stare, excessively heterosexuality-affirming beard, super-tight top. You know, the usual [8D]

I thought it was a great movie! Off the wall? Yes! But it's message was plain.
Anarchy/................Anarchy/.............................WALL STREET IS ANARCHY! (And I should know 'cause I still hold 100 shares of Goldman Sachs, just for old time sake!)
I like the mask.........................actually, if you dump the avatar now, you be guilty of betraying the very reasons you chose it.

The movie is pretty interesting, though it felt a little heavy handed in places for my tastes. I'm personally not much in the market for trading freedom and personal responsibility for the (in my mind completely imaginary) promise of security. I completely understand the desire for some type of security in a world which denies it if you look with open eyes, but no concept of a precariat can convince me that people won't trade far too dearly in the long term to feel safe or secure or as if the world will be a kind place in the long term.

Many years ago, I once had a conversation with a prostitute in Chile. I was puzzled why the Chilean people seemed so content with Pinochet and his abuses of power. I, being somewhat of an idealist, said that it seemed to me that the disposed president Allende had so much more to offer the Chilean people. Her answer was simple enough. She said that under Allende everyone had personal freedoms that they had not seen in decades. But of course there was never any food on the table. Under Pinochet there was repression and less personal freedom but there was plenty of food. She told me that only a person who had never experienced real hunger could think that freedom was the most important thing in the world. It was indeed hard for me to relate, having always had plenty to eat.

Before or after the classic sigarette-after-sex ? [:D] Cause smoking right after sex is a sacred moment of celebration and it would be a shame to ruin it talking about serious stuff like hunger, geo-political assets, dictatorship and so on... don't you think?

[:D][:D][:D] Just kidding...i totally agree with your statement. It's easy to talk about democracy, revolutions and freedoms when you already have everything you need...
...but at the same time, panem et circenses is exactly how dictators keep peoples enslaved since the beginning of civilization...

The freaky thing about the movie - the first time I saw it, I was living in Larkhill on exchange duty!! [X(] Went looking for the chemical shed the next day[:D]. Good movie, but too much beer involved the first time I saw it so had to watch it again, or was it Natalie Portman? [;)]

The 42-year-old only child of Cher and Sonny Bono added, “You know, it just kind of shows why for me it’s important to be on the show, because so little still is known about what it means to be transgender.

“And there’s so many just completely inaccurate stereotypes and thoughts that people have.”

Bono, who was born Chastity Bono and underwent gender-reassignment surgery last year, ignited passions among Dancing With the Stars fans with the announcement that he’d be competing on the series.

bjmorgan,

Nothing so derivative. I like wordplay so my nick is a play on words and the nature of virtual media.

Nemo = Latin for No-one or Nobody.
121 = One to One

So, what better pseudonym online than one which translates as "Nobody one to one"

Steamboateng,
No fear of my changing it. I've always believed that if you leave something enigmatic you can learn a lot about people by how they interpret it. Certain interpretations indicate the sort of mentality and viewpoint I'd have no interest associating with. So a little ambiguity is a useful initial screening tool.

BEST opening sentence to a post ever. I'm going to rob it and pay homage to it whenever I make ueber-serious posts. [:D]

As to Chaz Bono... Well I've treated quite a few people with gender identity disorder. Some truly were in situations where their identity and mental processes and chromosomal gender were in conflict. Some were just very, very mixed up in all manner of ways. Either way though they were people in pain. I've always thought that so long as they weren't injuring anyone else then I simply wished them peace and emotionally and physically fulfilling relationships with their partner or partners, irrespective of gender or gender identification. I don't think judging and railing against them is particularly helpful in increasing humanity's net happiness and tolerance.

In reality societal notions of binary gender identity are more social constructs than biological fact ( we have XXY, XO, XYY and all manner of other uni and polymorphisms which impact on brain development, hormonal balance and gender/role identification etc). That doesn't stop society persecuting those who don't abide by the construct though. Insecure social groupings ( and individuals ) tend to identify themselves more by their opposition to characteristics of "the other" than by their embrace of their own characteristics.

I don't personally know anyone that goes though that, but as mean as kids are now a days, that can't be easy growing up knowing your something other people think you aren't.

Years ago I was in school with a woman who was trans-gender. As a male he'd been an active-duty infantry officer who served in Desert Storm. Married with a child. When I knew her she was post-hormones, had breasts, dressed as a female, used the ladies room, but had male goodies yet. Had been to court to change names and had been declared a legal female for drivers license, etc., purposes. Still married to the same woman. Problem was, the wife was in love with another man, and her "husband" was in love with him as well. The husband/former male needed the wife's insurance while she (ain't pronouns great?) was in school, so they hesitated to divorce. The marriage was legal in MN for all purposes, but not for federal legal purposes. This despite the fact that if they divorced, and changed their minds, they would not be allowed to legally re-marry in MN. The child of course remained the child of both, with a birth certificate listing the father's male name.

And she was looking for work at a large, white-shoe law firm. This was, despite the above, the biggest problem of all.
