Quick question. I'm at work and got interrupted reading this thread, so shoot me if it already got discussed
Just curious why all the scenarios are from 1989? I was thinking the 79-84 was the Soviet's best shot at winning. By 89, they were in big trouble.
Of course, there's nothing stopping me from creating my own. But I'm so pressed for time, dammit.
Young = no money, no toys, lots of time
Old = some more money, way more toys, NO TIME
Hatin' it...[:)]

Just played the tutorial, of course I had no time to read the manual, just had to try the game. I have to get used to the hex size was to slow in getting to the VP's, but smashed the Soviets. Lucky to have lost only a few tanks and men, but not enough to win the game. My challenger's were really good, well placed behind a smoke screen and hammered the Soviets, but once that hind popped up I started to lose tanks fast. A little pincer move around the woods in the top and caught a few HQ's. The next Soviet advance will be on foot.
I think I will build a timer into my pc so that it shuts down just after bedtime, so no long nights. This just one more turn game could be addictive. Will read the manual tomorrow and try again.
This might become a fun game to play, after learning all the nitty gritty parts of it. Glad I bought it.

We wanted to do one time period justice with a full spread of battle situations. 1989 was the first year that NATO thought they had parity.
If you read the main briefing for A Time To Dance you will see what premise the Soviets used to start the war.
Other time frames are coming...Patience Grasshopper...Patience...[8D]

Hehe, What would a grasshopper like me know about patience!
Here I am complaining about extra scenarios when I've barely had time to do the tutorial.
Don't you just love customers? So
logical

I will take that as a sign that you are happy with the game and simply want more content. [8D]
Besides, you need to the Good Cap'n a rest! I ran him through the ringer just doing the 1989 scenarios. [X(]

Let me add my voice to the approval choir, I never am an early adopter of a game I usually wait for a couple of patches, AAR's, lets plays ect. ect. Also i'm not much of a modern warfare guy,but the positive feedback from owners and the fact thats it's a different sort of game pushed me over the edge.I only had time to go through the tutorial...but what fun, really like the whole process of the game and really like the end game results info, alot of games fail in this area. I was aware of the few little problems that exist and they have happened to me also [F6 not working& screen click through]but they certainly aren't game breaking.
Couple of questions.[looking forward to the map zoom]
why are the hotkeys all ctrl click? cant we just use a single key.
Since my f6 wasn't working, are you able to use the subunit inspector to get info on spotted enemy units? no matter how close the enemy was all it would say on the mouse over is tanks, not what kind and since i'm not a modern warfare guy i'd like to be able to get some info on equipment i'm going against.
Can we get a hotkey to filter the diary by unit?
You know i read about others experience with the tutorial and still lead my infantry right into that damn chopper, to be fair i was following the quick start guide at first... so it's whoever wrote it's fault[:)]...what fun...since i didn't have F6 working what do you have to deal with the enemy chopper besides your own chopper? I'll be replaying it again curious to see if the AI will do something different, it came right down the pipe through the trees. No attempt at anything north or south of the objectives..Don't think i can get there fast enough to blow those bridges...or can I[;)]
Here's the damage

Welcome to Red Storm insanity. It is recognizable by the Red Flu and long bouts of "Just One More Turn"!! [X(]

Yesterday I bought the Red Storm and today I'm starting to perceive the real potential of this new game system.
A lot can still be done improving graphics and interface, but the engine is solid, impressive and deserves each € I paid for it.
Truly impressive work. Grats to all the developers.

I don't think so -- which is on my "wish list" that I hope the designers fix. I would really like to be able to know what unit my guys are seeing without having to recognize the silhouette, go into the subunit info memo, click to switch sides, then use the cumbersome slider to find it.
One thing, with the Fog of War settings, I don't think that the counters you see necessarily represent the number and type of systems there -- but even taking that into account, it would be nice to quickly reference the info about the system my guys at least think/report that they're seeing.

Budd,
The hotkeys are based on windows standard convention. We do have both single click and remapping on the wish list.
Added better info from hint and filer diary hotkey to wish list.
Thanks for the feedback!

I don't see that happening if you are playing with full Fog of War (FOW).
If you're not using FOW, I believe you should be able to see and identify them now.

Maybe I'm missing something.
I'm playing full FOW. I see silhouettes with numbers for the Red Army units. The only information I can get from what I see on the counter: the silhouette (type), the number of runners (which is likely wrong), the type of unit, its facing, and whether its sighted, correct?
If I hover the cursor over the unit I may get additional info like this for the remnants of a motorized rifle company: "4 APC,5 INF, 3 AD." I can't click on the enemy unit.
But I want to be able to click on the enemy unit and get to the (F6) subunit inspector. Not to find out the specifics of the unit I'm facing, but to see the technical details of the platforms and systems I face. Like I said, even if my guys aren't correctly IDing what they see, I still want to get to the Subunit Inspector.
Otherwise, how do I discover what max range and firepower of a tank I'm facing without a bunch of clicks?

I am using fog of war, but depending on how close the enemy is and my recon ability shouldn't i be able to get some intel on what i'm facing. Wouldn't the sides have the book so to speak on each other? So is the" allow browsing of spotted enemy units setting " kind of more realistic? or will it ruin my FOW, and will the units icons disappear off the map when LOS is lost?

Here's what i'm talking about, i'm playing nato and i have the "show what enemies this unit can see" overlay on and the los numbers on, under the red tank unit is 72 this is all the info i get- 9 tanks
would i get more info if the los number were higher? I'll try to find an example with units side by side.

Budd -- on your example there, all I want to be able to do is click on the enemy unit and bring up the F6 menu on Soviet tanks. It doesn't even have to be the right one.

i get what your saying and i think you should be able to pull up the f6 on the enemy under certain spotting conditions, you just want to be able to click once and open the book on the enemy without switching to one side and going thru it. In the above example shouldn't i see more info than just tanks? I'm a WW2 guy so im just looking to be educated here.

Guys, we added an action on our wish list to improve the information seen in the hints as the spotting level improves. So at the "best" level it would say 9 x T-72M or similar. The number will still be fuzzy and there is talk of the ID being fuzzy but option has some issues.
As for the SI (Subunit Inspector) it can stay open (or will better in the patch for some folks) and as you click on units you can see what they are. Right now even if it says "Tank" in the hint, the SI will show the correct unit.
