Early June'62 Missouri
Poor Indians aren't able to stop advance of Union force, but really annoying event has taken place further east where my raiding force send to plunder Illinois was completely wiped out.
Still all quiet in Mississippi.

Feeling secure in the east and south east of the state I dispatched small force to advance west. Putting some pressure on Aurelian, that will force him to spread his forces and gaining buffer territory will be welcomed.

Still no enemy activity in the west what pleases me greatly, and even better news from the east.
Raiding forces advance facing no resistance - J.Stuart marches west and J.Magruder marches boldly across Maryland, but what pleases me is fact that Aurelian left Alexandria and advances south. Good news.

Once more Union landed near Pensacola. Nothing really serious and appropriate force is being despatched - nothing to mighty, just enough to contain my opponent.

Hostilities has been resumed. Grant successfully assaults Charleston. Outnumbered Polk retreats west in disarray.
North, at Salem forgotten by my cavalry is annihilated by very strong Union unit. I am pleased to learn that it provided Aurelian with some distraction.

Due to lack of resistance I advance further and further into Pensylvania, but more importantly Aurelian decided to dig in at Falmouth and Warsaw and taht provides me with opportunity to land heavy blow. Unfortunately Jackson's corps is passive, but I expect it will change its posture once enemy region is entered.

Brave defender of stockade repulsed first assault, but defeat is inevitable. I hope Indians defending Rolla will prove tougher nut to crack.

Charleston has fallen. Aurelian consolidates his gains in region.
I keep reinforcing Island 10 and dig in along riverbanks. Problem is lack of reserves, so I pray for my opponents cautiousness.

Great news. Longstreet taken over command from Jackson and did excellent job. Battle of Falmouth was spectacular victory and will significantly accelerate my advance into Maryland and Pensylvania. Unfortunately I have to dispatch strong forces to deal with yet another intrusion towards Richmond.

Predictably Union forces were beaten and this time I will follow up and try to capture Fort Pickens.

The war goes badly for the Union. Washington fell, the capital moved to NYC before hand. I've been outplayed
The VPs are now heavily in his favor. The EP is in effect. Ports are being blockaded, but I suspect too late.
The only chance I see is to win a NM victory. (Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure. [:D])
But, I'm having fun. I lose a lot, but I enjoy the journey.
This game does *not* play like the older one. So I have to come up with something new.

Aurelian, please explain why you totally left everything (in the Potomac area) to your opponent? What's the rationale? [:)]

Because there are no listed objectives there. Strategic towns, but I held them all. And for quite awhile, I had better NM than he even though he had those areas. If things had worked the way I intended, they would of had to pull back. But I rushed things,
As an aside, you also see a weakness of the whole Forward to Richmond thing. Newspapers cry if you don't take Manassas (*Much* easier in the first game, as the Washington Bde can get there before the frozen Confed units show up.), but say nothing if the South rolls north. (Which a hyper aggressive Southern player will do with superior leaders.)
The game isn't over, though if things stay the way they are, he'll win on VPs.
And I did the "build all the militia" thing. Never again. Pound for pound they just can't match up to a regular brigade. For defending their state, sure, two backed by artillery so they can fortify. But not for conquest.

Thanks for taking the time to explain [:)]
Yes, the "all militia" cannot be a sound strategy. I remember the AGEOD AACW forums: everyone (veterans) wanted to avoid them militias.
Ok, you get more men, but the price you pay (because you always must pay a price and/or face the consequences)? An army not prepared (not even close) to fight (you need time to train them). And if the enemy has regular forces... er... you better confess your sins [8D]

Situation from Early March '63
I think, that rail transfer of troops is too generous. I moved Jackson (and later Longstreet as well) around whole map few times, got plenty of wins and their stats increased in a bit ridiculous way. Together with Lee and few experience boosted divisions commanders they create force will massively inflated combat power.

There should be rolls after each battle that can see stats decreased (marginally of course) or increase, with odds being heavily determined by previous results, ie sure the first time after a victory the odds of stats increasing are say 25%, decrease 5%, stay the same 70%. But if you have had a couple of increases, even though you win a battle, the odds should be something like 30% decrease, 70% stay the same. Cap the increases to 2 points total over the 3 stats, and make odds of losing a stat after each battle if you are already 2 points in the bonus quite high...

Game has ended in my opponents surrender in Late June '63.
Turn before I got overall around 270000 mobile troops. Most of them in Virginia/Maryland (98000) and Mississippi/Tennessee (109000) and Richmond area (38000).

I really struggled with ammunition. Few more battles and my forces would have crumbled. I would not be able to finish biggest Union army east of Washington. It would have escaped.

Union presence was constant nuisance here, but once Norflok area was sufficiently strengthened I haven't felt pressed.
