Combat Report
December 23-27, 1941
The wholesale slaughter of innocents continues with big happening every turn. Have decided to do a complete regional report to put it all together for those reading and keeping up on the AAR:
North Pacific
Capture Attu, Amchitka, and Umnak without issue. Have little 3 AK and 1 PB TF heading to each base with supplies. Engineers going to Attu and Umnak.
A STF of 2 CL and 3 DD sweep into Dutch Harbor and sink a pair of YP there.
Central Pacific
Midway
The Midway Invasion Force is spotted on the 26th and lands on the 27th. BB Hyuga bombards while BB Ise and 2 CL are embedded within the landing force. The combined might of 2 SNLF Assault Brigades pulverizes the Marine Defense. The bombardments and counter-battery fire knocked out over 500 troops and disabled the 28 Guns. A small strike by PBY Cats sank an AK after half of the seaplanes were shot down by 8 Zeros flying CAP from my pair of CVEs to the west. The Midway Garrison had been augmented by Marines from Wake so the surrender ends up with four units and 3,401 POWs taken. In a VERY NICE bonus, 18 PBY are destroyed so they could not be captured by the Japanese. NICE!
Set both SNLF to rest and order one to begin Prep on Johnson Atoll. The garrison Transport TF is on the way from Tokyo carrying a CD unit and Base Force. A couple of Engineering units will be added to move Fort building along. Will send AKEs and an AS here to make this a forward base for AMCs and SS.
Palmyra
The Brigade is about 3-4 days from landing. A things are GO there. They will have 3 CA and 3 DD embedded within the landing force.
Christmas Isle
The 2nd ID departs Tabitueau on the 27th. D-Day is the Jan 2 or 3.
Take Baker and Malden (WHERE is that place you ASK?) on the 24th.
SE Pacific
WHEEEEEE! CARDIV1 moves down towards Pago Pago and wreaks havoc. Some of this has been detailed earlier but I'll go day-by-day:
25th Strikes sink 4 AK and a TK
26th Move to a position 2 hexes from Pago Pago but bad weather closes everything: CRAP!
27th Move east and strike pay dirt. Strikes sink FIVE AP and an AK. DD Rathburne is hit twice and another AP is struck by 3-4 bombs.
28th Will hang near here for one more day and see what might be found before heading north to cover the Line Islands. Order AOs to move in and refuel on the 28th or 29th.
South Pacific
Quiet
Philippines
Luzon
Bataan FALLS on the 27th! A 7-1 assault forces the surrender of 4 units and opens the door to Manila. A TF of 5 DMS are already on their way to clean the mines out.
Manila
Two ID are moving into the hex to pin those troops in.
Iba
A pair of units is here with another pair at Subic. We'll eliminate them with an ID and then go to town at Manila.
Mindanao
ALL bases taken except for that one in the middle. Everything has been forced to retreat into the hex so they are al beat-up. Should be easy.
Eastern DEI
Not much happening. This area has been a relative safe haven for the Allies so far.
Central DEI
Balikpapan falls with little damage to facilities. Land with a Brigade and Air Division HQ. Move Bettys and Zeros/Oscars here and they begin to prey upon Allied shipping near Soerabaja. Looking good.
Western DEI--Sumatra
Oosthaven is taken on the 27th by the 4th Inf Reg. DD Kimberly and an AS is sunk to avoid capture. NICE!
4th ID at Palembang is loading for Cocos. This should be WAY OVERKILL but I take no chances. Need that base. Once 4th ID has taken Cocos they move to Merak and begin the capture of Java.
Malaya
The 5th and 18th are at Johore Bharu with the 38th ID, 3 Ind Engineers, and 8 Artillery units about to arrive. The entire force will crossover and take Singapore by January 1st or 2nd.
The Allies try to recapture Kloung but are forced back on the 26th. Imperial Guards is driving down the west side of the Peninsula while 55th ID is doing the same on the east side. Looking GREAT!
Singapore
The Port has 13-15 damaged ships including Prince of Wales, Repulse, CLs Danae and Lamotte-Picquet, and 2-3 DDs, and other ships. As stated earlier we use CARDIV2 to make sure NOTHING is leaving. Port Strikes are flown the 26th and 27th placing 2-3 800Kg Bombs on both capital ships and damaging several other as well. A Daitai of Betty's fly everyday dropping their 250Kg bombs and add to the damage. I WANT TO SEE THESE SHIPS SCUTTLED!
Burma
Take Moulmein with 3 TK Regiments. These unit move and blast the remaining Burma units as they cross the river. We're headed for Pegu now.
China
The Chinese troops at Loyang and the town next to it shall be fuly encircled in 2-3 days. YUMMY!
Driving the Chinese towards Changsha. Don't really want to take it but do want him looking in the WRONG location for the true offensive.
SS Operations:
23rd I-168 hits TK Belita near Pago Pago
24th Lose I-169 to mines at Pago Pago. CRAP!
Want to detail the day-to-day shipping losses right now. Ships SUNK/Damaged:
23rd SUNK: CA Exeter, DDs Kelvin and Kingston DAM: BB POW, BC Repulse, CL Danae, CL Lamotte-Picquet, 3 DD, CA Minneapolis, CL Helena
24th SUNK: 1 AM DAM: 2 DD and an AS
25th SUNK: 4 AK, 1 TK, 1 AMc DAM: BB POW, BC Repulse, 2 DDs, CL De Ruyter and Denae
26th SUNK: 2 YP, 3 AMc, DD Kipling DAM: BB POW, CL Lamotte-Picquet, and 2 AK
27th SUNK: DDs Scout and Kimberly, 1 AS, 1 AVP, 1 TK, 4 AMc, 1 AM, 5 AP, 1 AK DAM: BB POW, BC Repulse, 1 DD, 1 AP, and SS KXV
That is about it.
