25.6.1942 - 1.7.1942

The Panzer ball moved towards Rostov. I had 2 tank corps positioned in the marshes northwest from Rostov and all the marsh hexes were occupied by Soviet units. I thought this may be safe position and once again I was wrong. Brian managed to displace the rifle divisions from the marshes and cut off my 2 TC.

I'm disappointed, I've seen nothing happening in this game. Is it over or just on break? I was really hoping to follow this game from start to end for clues on playing both sides.

Its summer, progress is slow, Brian was out for a week.

2.7.1942 - 9.7.1942

Axis have crossed Don near Rostov in 3 hexes area. I would be for sure able the throw them back from 1, maybe 2 hexes but not from 3. Checkerboard and retreat is back on the menu.

10.7.1942 - 16.7.1942

My hopes for Axis bad fuel situation were unsubstantiated. Without any problems have Panzers reached Caucasus in just one week.

Partisans going mad in Leningrad area. Not that this would be any help in our war effort.

Wow, the German armor just slicing and dicing. I don't see air drops. How in the world is he keeping the armor in supply?

I'd be very happy to see him heading South into a cul-de-sac like this. A big mistake I think. You can retreat all the way to Baku without hardly needing to risk losing anything. He should have forced the issue in the center for any chance of a win I think.
By the way, I would like to see the Southern oil fields turned into VP's. Also there needs to be some VP's in the Crimea.
One small bit of advice which may turn out to be wrong anyway. You should have kept the Don crossings in ZOC to limit supply to the pz divisions there. I think that's right?

Yes I should have done it. Do not know why, but I thought I will be able to retreat in order.

However I have some suspicions but no proof.

There is nothing north of the Terek river that needs defending in the Caucuses. (In extremis you can pull back even further than this.) I see too many Soviet players making this mistake time and again and trying to defend the northern Caucuses and get gobbled up in the process. It's pretty much like Timmyab says.

The one thing you do need to be concerned about is the eventual loss of a rail connection once you run away to the foothills. But that can be managed. You don't need a ton of forces to hold on to what is essential down there.

Baku ought never fall if the Soviet knows his business.

I started the withdrawal towards Novorossiysk and Terek immediately after Brian has crossed Don. But Panzers were faster. The only problem is the poor logistic simulation.

17.7.1942 - 23.7.1942

Brian formed pocket north of Novorossiysk. I have been able to break it but the units are doomed anyway. Retreat in the south continues.

On the first turn of breakthrough the wedge looked thin at it's base. You had some mobile units close. Maybe you could cut the supply lines?

It was not possible. The CC were to far away.

24.7.1942 - 30.7.1942

Brian moved his attention towards Moscow. Small pocket has been formed but the mighty Red Army was able to break it. In this process 3 German divisions were routed.

Situation in the south. I lost Novorossiysk and good part of Transcaucasus front is doomed. I will try to make a stand at Makhachkala and can only pray that the gap between Astrakhan and Stalingrad will not be exploited.

Could you please show us OOB numbers?

Naive question: what could he do there anyway? Units that cross the swampy Volga area would be way out of supply, wouldn't they? Or is there really a backdoor threat to Stalingrad itself?

It's interesting to see a serious Case Blue type of 1942 offensive.

Probably not an easy task but could be achieved. If I recall, I saw at least one AAR where Volga has been crossed south of Stalingrad.
