Ladies and Gentelmen, boys and girls...............what we see above is Luskan's admission that he has all but lost the war!;)
If you kick a goal it should be worth 6 points...regardless of
where it was kicked from. It ticks me off when they stuff around with the rules.

I think they've taken the comparisons to basketball a little too seriously.
Mind you, the orange maggots now look cute.:p
Smack!

Raver probably doesn't have enough planes to CAP Luganville, Noumea and Efate both day and night, and since he doesn't leave them in port every now and then my commanders at Lunga will launch a nuisance raid. Note the extreme high experience of my level bomber crews - 3 runs yielding 3 hits on fast targets.
4 damaged nells in the end, 1 destroyed by flak, two disappeared (fate unknown! Literally I can't figure out where these two went) and the remaining 14 Nells sent to Truk for R+R while other level bomber squadrons rotate in.
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/03/42
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Air attack on TF, near Efate Port Vila at 55,57
Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 9
Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell x 1 destroyed
G3M Nell x 8 damaged
Allied Ships
CL Hobart, Torpedo hits 1
CA Louisville, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Anderson, Torpedo hits 1, on fire lots
Attacking Level Bombers:
3 x G3M Nell at 200 feet
4 x G3M Nell at 200 feet
1 x G3M Nell at 200 feet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only the destroyer is really seriously mauled, but certainly I expect those three to head back to Noumea and Pearl fairly soon. A couple more raids with results like this and my surface fleet should have an easier time of it.

Here we have Luskan, who has the largerst and most powerful surface fleet at this time, crowing about a few clapped-out bombers hitting their targets in undefended airspace !
Is this guy clutching at straws or what?

Just had a PBY report in that two separate sightings of wreakage floating on the surface..........I'm calling that as two kills to the flak boys and issuing an extra two bottles of beer to them for a job well done;)

I've wanted to do this to RAver since our last game. However when watching the automations my 24 zeroes shot down 22 kittyhawks in the first fight . . . and lost only two. But the intel page says I only got 15 all day - bloody pilots must be lying.
I lost 5 for my efforts. They were set to go yesterday, but the clear weather obviously didn't appeal to these maniacs - they preferred todays thunderstorms . . .

A foolish raid by 11 nells to hit ships arriving at Cairns by my nells cost me 7 nells for nothing (Raver's pilots claimed 16 or so kills!??).
Raver appears to be screening Wupenko, Luganville and maybe Townsville with his surface ships and with my naval air still learning to tie shoelaces (might be a month or six before their experience is high enough to let them fly anything . . . ) there isn't a whole lot I can do about it. Last time I tried to wipe one of those groups off the map with good old fashioned super IJN battleship power in the form of 4 or 5 surface combat TFs packed with Bbs, Cas, Cls and loads of IJN ego was a big disappointment. Perhaps a sub or two (his subs still have me jumping around Truk like a girl - not much else I can do with IJN ASW as poor as it is).
On a low resupply note I don't think I'm being sent anything for the next few years. Am tempted to send a couple of CS and AVs back to Tokyo to see if they don't send me another CV (by the time the CS and AV ships return to theatre my float plane stocks should have recovered?).
My transport ships are quite busy, while my air force enjoys the pacific climate/malaria. As soon as I can get the ships into position I'm gonig to start stealing a few more pacific footholds around the place. I've got Irau, but that isn't going to be worth keeping once Raver's b17s set in (more of a Lunga-buffer atm).
Maybe Nevea? A couple of inf Units (small enough that a FT supply run will keep them happy for months) a coastal defense unit (loads of them to spare), and some nearby firepower to capitalize on Raver's taking the bait?

Indeed I only lost 15 for 5 Zeros...3 to 1 odds Luskan's in favour.

Yup it was 16.....AAR shows 16, Intel screen shows 16, and I've counted 16 twisted and burnt airframes laying around Cairns. An extra days leave for the pilots in Sydney....Kings Cross is going to rock that night!

Well
of course I am going to screen those places

Good luck with THAT one.......send a few CVs south into my LRB range....I am sure that will get you some more CVs relased from Japan
I've got Irau, but that isn't going to be worth keeping once Raver's b17s set in
Mate you don't know the half of it......drop Crocky a line and ask him

Sorry guys, but sod-all to report. Luskan is tucked up tight in his bolt-holes and I am just busy re-suppling bases, and getting my aircrews up to scratch. The only really painful thing about playing Luskan is that EVERYTHING has to be screened....give the guy an inch and he'll beat the crapoutaya.

Sadly, from the looks of things, Raver continues to risk NONE of his total force at all (not even bombers lower than 35000!), which is probably sensible so early in the game.
Not sure I want him to prepare his ground to well however and am seriously toying with a few nuisance invasions here and there. Then again, last game when RAver and I had a lull, he broke it with literally every ship in the arsenal, crammed with every Jap soldier in the world landing at Townsville. If he'd landed at Noumea or Luganville - I probably wouldn't have had the success I did (having a billion MRBs on hand was lucky) - but Raver wanted the big Aussia invasion win. I won't make the same mistake he did!
If only I could take Cooktown for a day, rig the place to blow with explosives and evac to a safe distance before turning everything into a big smoking crater in the ground - that way Raver would come out and fight if I started sniffing around Cairns etc.
As for my sniffing, a pair of deep ocean recon missions were completed without anything interesting happening. I was tempted to launch recons but I was just scouting for invasion fleet buildups at Noumea and Brisbane and my float planes (although few) didn't spot a thing.

WTF? I have
EVERY PBY flying at 100% and I had NO idea that Luskan was probing that far south...fleet buildups at Noumea? No recon flights were even spotted!
I tell ya, that Luskan is a sneaky little sh1t.

Since he didn't spot anything of yours, you obviosuly didn't see anything of his. Makes sense? I think...

Yeah but the point is that he was able to get that close and not be detected! I do have my pride *sniff*;)

I wasn't that close - out of IJNfloat plane range for the most part - my two little groups were really very small (1 dd and 1 av/CS each) and they sailed right down the middle of the Coral sea before moving to about 10 or 12 hexes from Brisbane and Noumea.
Catalinas are far more fallible than you give them credit for - other IJN opponents have slammed me at Brisbane and Noumea without being spotted before.

Action at last!

Well folks....at last we have some action to report........Luskan sent I-122 into harmsway at Aobe Island and managed to put a torp into DD Cravan. Looks like her crew will be enjoying themselves in Pearl for a few months. On the upside, the rest of the TF sank I-122:D When are you people gonna learn that if you put a sub into the shallows, then they are going to get sunk!
No ifs', buts' or maybes' it is going to happen.

The second part of the combat report is when she lined up on the Warramunga and missed. The Warra. is generally the best ASW DD at the start of the campaign for the allies (I find).
If those torps had hit the I 122 would be home and safe.
Posted: Mon Feb 24, 2003 4:18 pm

Well it is not a case of the torps missing the Warra, what REALLY happened is that the HMAS Warramunga combed the torps.....*sniff* I am so proud I've got a tear in my eye.

Only if the sub is ijn and the ASW is allied. USN can enter shallow water hexes with impunity. Well, almost. I found one way to kill US subs as the Japs is for form a TF of 25 DDs, all with decent ASW. Eventually one of them might find the sub. Unfortunately, you can't use 25 DDs as escort since that leaves no room for any other ships.
