Central Front

3rd Army continues to retreat east as fast as their AP will allow.

Nothing to do in the 'Mogilev Delta' (I must find out what this geographic area is actually called). There is no one to move - it's just a case of sitting, digging in and waiting.

4th Army remains surrounded.

Southern Front

To try and avoid being surrounded 12th Army retreat southeast but leaves a couple of sacrificial units in Proskurow to hopefully delay the Germans.

Again the choice is attack or retreat - the Romanians being successful is annoying me so I go for the former approach. I can get a 95 vs 42 with a 20% modifier against a lone infantry unit.

The Romanian retreats and I have an attack against the 'out of command' and surrounded 5th Infantry. I use my divisions with decent readiness and can get a 156 vs 50 with a 75% modifier. The Romanian is destroyed.

I now try and get all units of 9th Army as far away from the Germans as possible.

I have to leave Southwestern HQ pretty much where they are a) because they are fairly well dug-in (behind rivers, in woods or in cities) and b) in order to give time for Kiev to build up.

It looks like the Soviet counter-attack on Turn 7 was enough to blunt the German spear permanently, and my opponent has conceded.

I've actually won a game of DC:B! Huzzah [:)]

It seemed you thought you were being defeated right up until the point of victory, is that true? Was thin fun to play? I'm sure it was your brilliant handling of the Baltic and Crimean Fleets that tipped the balance!

Playing the Soviets is er...a challenge. Yes it is fun but very difficult against a good player and you need some luck. It's not just the number of activations, its really important which armies get activated - and which don't. Stalin's paranoia attacks are particularly grim...

Yes, I assumed from the off I was going to lose. My opponent really went for it and was achieving much success until - fortunately for me - he got either over confident or sloppy - allowing me to counter-attack to the extent I could.

Sadly there is no fleet representation or fleet cards - but yes, it is incredibly good fun and addictive.
