We continue to capture manpower and resource centers from the Soviets. Both will help our war efforts.

[center]OKM Status Summary Turn 5[/center]

Our blockading operations continue but not without losses. Two of our minesweepers were sunk this week. We also lost a landing ship near Riga when it was sunk by Soviet Aircraft. It appears the Soviet Air Force has not gotten the message the war is over for them!



Evacuate Hanko

The Soviet Navy evacuated their approximately 30 thousand garrison at Hanko but they did not escape without losses as one of their transport ships hit a sea mine. M60 actually evacuated Hanko earlier than the Soviets did.



Most of the Soviet Baltic fleet has been moved to Tallin or Kronstadt.

[center]OKW Intel Summary Turn 5 Week of July 20-26, 1941[/center]

Our U-Boat wolf packs caught up with three convoys in the Atlantic this week. They sank 11 cargo ships and our Luftwaffee sank another two ships. Perhaps our strategy to starve England into surrender might actually work. It better work as the Luftwaffee has stopped their air campaign. Most of the Luftwaffee is tied up supporting Operation Barbarosa and the Afrika Corps.

Even our Italian ally helped us with our starvation strategy by sinking the British cargo liner, Macon, with a torpedo. The Italians managed to escape their East Africa naval base with 4 submarines. They managed to get around the Cape of Good Hope and safely arrived at the French port of Bordeaux. What is even more amazing is two Italian surface ships escaped East Africa and managed to sail all the way to Kobe, Japan! At least, the Italian Navy has shown some courage and skill. I cannot say the same thing for their Army units in East Africa.

The British are trying to return the favor by starving the Afrika Corps. This week they sank three of our cargo ships and everyday the sea lanes between Italy and North Africa becomes more dangerous for our ships.

[center]Finland Turn 6 Intel Status[/center]



The Soviet army attempts to escape from Vyborg and establish a defensive line north of Lake Ladoga.

The Soviets counterattack and push our lead panzer units back over the Luga River. They also continue to dig in around Leningrad. It will be a tough task for AGN to remove these communist rats from their holes in the ground. Again, congrats to M60 for his effective use of the +1 combat bonus rule.

The soviets counter attacks continue and they manage to force one lead panzer unit back over the Dnieper. However, we are over the river in force and will plan to expand our breakthrough this turn.

The Soviets continue to defend Kiev and establish defensive positions along the lower Dnieper River.

The Soviets continue to frantically counterattack and force our lead panzer elements back over the Dnieper. They also continue to set up defensive positions in front of the DZ cities.

The Finnish Army reseal the pocket around Vyborg and push forward through the Soviet defenses north of Lake Ladoga.

Instead of another frontal attack on the Luga River defenses, AGN does a flanking maneuver along the soviet left flank and moves behind their strongest positions.

AGC expands the bridgehead over the Dneiper and pushes back the Soviet Land Bridge defenses. 9th and 2nd Army move to isolate the Soviets in Vitebsk.

17th Corps, 6th Army, moves northeast of Kiev towards Chernigov to isolate any units in the Pripyet Marshes and get behind the Dneiper River defenses. 17th Army moves southeast to the Dneiper to link up with 11th Army and 1st Panzer Group.

Two attempts to cross the Dneiper River fail. Soviet defenses are getting stronger and our strength is declining due to supply constraints. 1st Panzer group approaches the outskirts of the DZ cities. The Romanians also capture Odessa and destroy 3 ARM and HI factories.

We have inflicted over 1 M casualties, yet the Intel estimates show the Soviets OB having 1/2 M more troops than when the campaign started. Their numbers of tanks and aircraft are about 50% of the campaign start. However, they have the same number of guns. Our OB is about the same for troops but we have lost over 1000 AFV.

The casualty ratio still remain at approximately 10 to 1.

This week we lost 53 level bombers and over 80 dive bombers. There was a coordination problem with the fighter escorts, none of them showed up! It appears we need to modify air doctrine too ensure the fighters escort our bombers.
