- At Georgetown I'm loading the Yokosuka Assault SNLF and the 81st Naval Guard Unit for transport to Langsa.
- My bombardment of the enemy troops at Medan on the 20th revealed 3 small enemy units - the Langsa Base Force that I routed into that hex plus the Medan Base Force and the Medan Coastal Gun Bn. I have ordered a DATK for the 21st. Additionally, the 91st Naval Guard Unit at Langsa is moving down to Medan and is 20/92m out.

Malaya
- I rested my troops at Singapore over the 20th. I also added several more bomber groups to attack the Singapore AF as I think Bill has been able to do repairs so he could build on his forts faster than I was able to keep his airfields/Ports in the red for damage.
- Bill brought in B-17s to attack my resources at Johore Bahru. B-17s have 500 lb. bombs… Japan won't have anything that carries 500 lbs. or better for bombing until the Judy dive bomber in early 1943. The saving grace for Japan VS the allied 4E bombers is their Service Rating of 4. So I have been a little lax in my base CAP. Bill going after my bases forces me to increase my fighter CAP so this is a good move on Bill's part. Also, I have three AAA units at Johore Bahru but they are all Field AA Gun Companies with a half-dozen 75mm guns. While it looks, from the Combat Report of the 20th, I'm sure the defense regiments with the 88mm guns would do better against the allied 4E bombers.
- The 41st and 42nd Air Defense AA Regiments plus the 41st Air Defense AA Bn. Are all at Shanghai. I reassigned them to the Southern Army and will transport them to Malaya.
§ TF240 is in route to Shanghai from Pescadores to pick up the three AA units.
- I've increased CAP for some of my fighter groups for Johore Bahru to help VS future 4E attacks. It's interesting to me that he is flying so low with those 4E bombers. Most allied players treat those bomber like gold for a reason.

So my current plans are to:

- Push along the Aleutian Isles so I have a good chain of close-knit bases that I can reasonably put up a good defense, interlocking air support, and serve as support for subs and naval operations.
- In Burma it looks like Bill is really pushing Chinese troops into Lashio. He has 15 units there as I type. I'm bombing the snot outta the base and hitting his troops. He has to have supply problems along that flimsy chain so I'm hoping that I can bomb him into next week while I work to move additional troops into the Burma region.
- In Sumatra I'm pushing up and down from Langsha with troops. And I'm ferrying more across from Georgetown. That whole barge thing from Georgetown to Langsha is kinda cool. I'm also pushing support to Singapore and Singkawang to start the pounding of Palembang.
- I'm also pushing troops to Pontianak. I'll start flooding south into the Java Sea while my troops recover from Singapore operations and then drive a stake into Palembang and Batavia.
- Operations in the PI and Mindanao will heat up soon too, as I start driving all along that front and into Southern Borneo.

I thought for Carrier Ops it was the carrier leader that had primary impact on those rolls. For influencing DL, I had RECON air groups plus FP from some of my capitol ships. TB and DB had a 10% Search for every other group. What I've never been really sure of is that if say, I have groups A, B, & C all set to 10% Search, and group B sees an enemy contact, does it report the contact to group A and C? Because sometimes, from watching the movie, it seems like the other two groups don't always get the message from B...

In China at hex 84,42 reinforcements arrived to bolster my troops. I did a bombardment on the 27th to verify his troops and have ordered a DATK for 1MAR42. I also tossed in GATK runs from all bombers in the area plus LRCAP and Escort to that hex.

At Clark Field in the PI another division arrived to bolster my forces there. I have a DATK planned for Clark too.

In Burma additional units seem to be arriving all the time at Lashio according to mouse-intel. I'm stacking more troops as a roadblock just south of Lashio to dig in and I'm pounding the AF and the ground troops. I've pretty much maxed out my air support engineers and bases in the surrounding region.

In the Aleutians I'm going after Dutch Harbor and then I think I'll sit there and build up the nearby base airfields. Most of the close-by dot hexes have AF0(3) so I should be able to do a good job of interlocking CAP and still fly strikes and serve as a service port for refueling my subs and an occasional SCTF or carrier group.

At Johore Bahru I've moved most of my LCU that were in combat operations at Singapore and am working to rebuild them to full strength prior to redeploying them to future combat operations.

TF leader Air skill provides bonus to most CV air operational decisions. however, group leader skills are still involved in most (all?) of the checks with respect to launch, load out, etc.

As for sharing the search info between groups, I don't ever recall the devs commenting on that. My anechdotal evidence agrees with yours: sharing between groups definitely happens, but not 100% of the time. However, this could also just be an outcome of each groups launch checks that are done in any case influenced by the DL which we know is a huge influencer.

Burma
Mouse-intel shows 70 fighters @ Lashio and airfield damage at 6… No bombing runs were made against the AF due to weather. I'm feeling a trap being set by Bill.
I stopped all bombing runs for Lashio this turn and will sweep heavily from Magwe, Pegu, Rangoon, and Chiang Mai.

Sumatra
My attack at Sabang on the 3rd resulted in a 1:2 ratio due to the enemy base forts being level 3. I'll lick wounds and await reinforcements.

@ 46,77 - just north of Tandjoengbalia - my 41st Rgt and the Yokosuka 2nd SNLF catch up with Joe's LCUs we kicked out of Medan. I'll DATK this turn.

Amphibious TF13 @ Cam Ranh Bay is loading the 5th Guards Division of the 21st Army for transport to Medan. For TF15 I've set Home Port to Rangoon.

Malaya
TF240 is in route with 3 AAA Air Defense Units. I want some 88s in place for the next time Bill visits me with 4E in that theatre.

The 140th Indian Mixed Bde arrives @ Davao to help bolster my strength. I've ordered a DATK.

I formed CS Cargo TF81@ Tokyo to transport 137,630 tons of supplies to Cam Ranh Bay. It will return to Tokyo with Resources.

I formed another ASW TF to patrol Cam Ranh Bay-Singora-Singapore.

I'm assigning the 21st Army for Sumatra/Java/NW Borneo theatre operations.

So regarding Group leader ratings: The top 3 are Leadership, Inspiration, and Air - right? My WAG is that Leadership would impact DL rolls, Inspiration helps the rest of the pilots, and Air is the leader's primary check for a group advantage (like diving out of the sun. I once had a cheat-sheet that someone shared that talked about the skills and ratings for leaders. I can't for the life of me find it. Looks like I need to go on another convoluted dig into the forum responses of the past - lol.

4MAR42 Movie
- So at Lashio Bill did do a CAP trap. My whine is that all of my Oscar fighter Groups went in first, followed late in the turn by my Zeroes… My Zeroes would have made a killing - instead… Even-Steven as I compare my actual losses to what is reported of the allies.

- Bill hit me a few turns back with PBY flying a long-range naval attack in which he sank an xAK. He had caught me as I was moving fighter groups around between Malaya, Sumatra, and Burma. Now I have my inter-locking CAP back up.

Chung King is the primary location for China to receive supplies - right?

China has a lot of mouths to feed. I'm thinking that if I capture Chungking, most of his troops will start hurting for supplies and fight at a disadvantage. Does this sound legit?

Sorry, it's been a bit since I posted. I had shoulder surgery on my dominant arm in mid-December and had it in a sling. All I can say is that it's nice to get the arm back; much easier to type.

That kinda caught me by surprise but now I'm pushing my troops from Lang Son to Saigon and then the do a quick march to Phnom Penh before railing it up to Chiang Mai. I've got 6 divisions in the pipe-line with more making their way to Lang Son.

Another surprise has been the P-38E, which has been slicing through my A6M2 and Oscar-Id like a hot knife through butter. Bill is also executing a bombing campaign - in force - on my airfields. When my fighters do engage his bombers it's a handful VS 30+.

Mandalay is 95/97 Service/Runway damage. I've got a single beat-up recon AC at the base so it shows the airplane icon.
Magwe was the same about 3 turns ago but is now 21/0 Service/Runway damage. No icons here.
Meiktila is my shining bastion of airpower. AF is rated as 1(7) Exp 34% but I have a pair of fighter groups there that can't get enough planes in the sky to get a numerical advantage.

I've got four air groups of fighters beefing up @ Rangoon with additional groups coming up from Malaya. If I can get Magwe through another day, I'll plink 150 fighters there in layered CAP and double-dawg dare him to bring his P-38 fighters. At this point my WAG is that I need to bleed his fighters as the allies have no production they can manipulate. If I can get a numerical advantage - say 3:1 VS - his P-38E I think I can dwindle down what he has on hand to throw at me.

More engineer groups with air support are in route to Burma. And AAA units. Tik-toc. Tik-toc.

So what happened on the 8th of April? Besides me losing a lot of fighters in Burma, I mean.

Near Victoria my SS I-26 took 3 hits. One was a doozy so I'm sending the I-26 to Truk for repairs. Truk has a repair yard.

Near Toboali my I-160 took on an xAKL in a night-time surface battle. The xAKL Palawan took 10 shell hits and has heavy fires and damage.

In the PI I'm massing troops at Clark for a push against Bataan.

In China, I'm driving towards the lightly defended Chungking. I'll be taking a big point increase once I eat up China, and that will let me defend Burma in-depth and drive an ugly land-war into India.

I'm sending over a couple of engineer units with air support to Woleai to build my air bridge for the Pacific.

Notes on the Philippines
At Clark Field I have six divisions plus a brigade, a pair of combat engineer units, and an arty unit all following the 14th Army Corps HQ to Bataan. It'll be crowded there as Bill has 33 units with mouse-intel showing 90k of troops, 970 guns and 1260 AFVs.

From Aparri I have a pair of medium bomber groups with a fighter escort that are pounding the port of Bataan. And I've got an air unit of Babs flying Recon. From Takao I have another 3 medium bomber groups that will come to play.

I've got a 3-BC bombardment TF leaving Hong Kong this turn to come visit Bataan.

And TF156 is unloading the 55th Independent Bde @ Lingayen as I type.

I've got another four divisions of infantry plus some arty and an armored unit sitting at Manila. They stare down at Batangus, where Bill has 9 allied units (some that ran from my Manila campaign) that are, I assume, rebuilding.





So what else is going on this turn?

At Burma - no air attacks by Bill at all this turn. Wow. I've moved about 100 fighters @ Magwe. Another 100 @ Saigon that will go up next turn. And 70 that just arrived @ Rangoon.

Bill flew a flight of SBD-3 at Sorong port. They spanked a couple of PB that I think will live to tell the tale. If fire teams can put out the blazes…

I just sent off a bombardment TF for Dutch Harbor.

In China everyone is moving West…

I'm working to rebuild the 1st Tank Division at Mukden (where a majority of the units are or will arrive at). Final units arrive on the board in 75 days. To that end the 1st Tank Rgt. @ Singapore is loading aboard TF266 for transport to Shanghai. From there the 1st Tank Bn can use the rail system to Mukden. And the 2nd Mobile AA Bn @ Mangan is moving to Kalgan where it can use the rail system to Mukden.
