Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #1. Surprise Invasion of Belgium.

6. The Germans wanted to push the retreating Belgium corps to the southwest (directly west of Brussels) in order to "interfere" with any French units moving into Belgium (i.e., Belgium was aligned to the CW). However,
"retreat priority" dictated that this corps retreated directly west along the coast.

7. Note that if this land combat had occurred first (before the attack on Brussels) then the corps could have been forced to retreat southwest (west of Brussels). However, the chance of retreat before either combat was remote, not considered by OKH/OKW, but should have been!

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. The Arctic Fronts. (End of Turn).

1. With the winter war between Finland and the USSR ended (last turn) and Germany's postponement of their invasion of Norway, all's quite in the Arctic this turn.

2. Even with storms in the Arctic on the last impulse of the turn, the 3 Swedish (iron ore) resource points were able to make it to Germany factories through the Baltic this turn. Good news for Albert Speer, Reich Minister in charge of production.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. The Mediterranean Front. (End of Turn).

1. Mussolini, while doing some saber rattling in the Balkans and on their border with France, still decides to stay on the sidelines (i.e., remain neutral).

2. Also, with a CP at sea at the end of the turn, a neutral Italy is still getting their 1 BP net trade from the USA.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Allied #6. USSR Claims Bessarabia.

1. The USSR claims Bessarabia. Whether or not Germany allows the claim will be determined by a 1D10 die roll and the the Soviet claim ratio.

2. The Soviet claim ratio is equal to the garrison ratio of all organized Soviet ground units on the Romania border plus the modified strategic air factors of all Soviet air units within range (even extended range) of the Ploesti oil fields.

3. If the 1D10 die roll is less than or equal to the Soviet claim ratio, then Germany will allow the claim. Otherwise, they will deny it.

4. The total garrison value of all organized Soviet ground units on the Romania border is 2+2+0.5+0.5+0.5=5.5.

5. The total modified strategic bombing factors of all Soviet planes in range of Ploesti is 4 + 2 + 4 divided by 2 because of snow = 5.

6. The Soviet claim ratio = 5.5 + 5 = 10.5, for which 1D10 roll will ALWAYS be less than or equal.

7. Therefore, it's automatic that Germany allows the claim. (They will also allow Bulgaria's and Hungary's claim on Romania territory too).

1. The IJN's 1st Amphibious Army Group, commanded by Admiral Yamamoto, faces supply issues when the weather turns (i.e., rain impulse 6).

2. As such, and not wanting to risk being outflanked by the Nationalist, Yamamoto orders a pull back of his forces to more defensible, but more importantly supplible, positions.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Production. Axis.

The Script. So part of the script is to (attempt to) build units as I understand what the priorities were for the belligerents, or potential belligerents, as they were at the time. For example, Mussolini loves his navy and invested a lot in building new battleships. So, Italy build out and repairs all their (cycle 1 complete) battleships.
