Soviets turn 180 (March 10, 1943)

AGN is pushed back almost to Riga now.
Apparently Goering has cancelled all air cover;
there are almost no German aircraft flying intercept or combat missions.

That toady looking fellow is Von Kuchler, commander of AGN.
IRL he was tried for war crimes, sentenced to 20 odd years,
served about eight, then lived a nice quiet life in a lovely town in Bavaria.
For 20 years. Some sentence, eh?

He too was only following orders.

Soviet turn 181 (March 14, 1943)

The most important of Soviet materiel is, of course

WODKA

and the Supply Wagons have arrived, despite BLISTERING
Air-to-Ground attacks trying to stop them.

AGN is fighting to the death to keep Riga in their claws.
They have been refeinforced by at least three Waffen-SS
divisions, as well several other regular OKH divisions.

Totenkopf has reconstituted under a new Commander,
the vicious Heinz Lammerding, known to be a distasteful
fellow who escaped the gallows IRL by a technicality;

yet still he never rested easy in later life, and was
hunted by French and Israeli commandos determined upon
extra-judicial execution. He died in 1971 with a beer in his
hand, smirking merrily at having cheated the Hangman.

He did not just follow orders.

Getting ready to roll that beautiful

It has been stormy weather for five or six weeks.

Riga liberated, Stockholm taken by Glorious
Soviet Sailor Men,
but Jerry fights his way into Stalino!

It is done. My worthy opponent, the right honorable GenJCL has conceded the game and resigned the Germans as of turn 207, noting in his brief message in the last diplomatic pouch that the Soviets were solidly 4-1 odds across the front from west of Riga to SE of Smolensk + capture of Stockholm following the sinking of the German fleet (which I had patiently stalked for MONTHS in real time.) Well played, Sir!

And so ends our go at the old warhorse FitE1. We put in 14 months of real time to reach turn 207 and it was a lot of fun. We played this on the Slitherine game server thing, and of course I did not take pics of a final end-of-scene because I forgot to before I closed the window. So here is a pre-war advertisement of some kind of Soviet board game that seems to be .... no, IS ... completely unintelligible to me.

[the game {circa 1930s}] doesn't have anything to do with dominoes: the black things at bottom right are for cutting out and gluing together to make a pair of dice. Similarly, the white-and-black mirrored images of lorry, cart, and boy at bottom left are moving pieces. Overall, it's a racing game in the tradition of the Game of the Goose, but themed with collecting raw materials (scrap metal, bottles, rags, paper, old boots and gum overshoes, etc.) for the Soviet industrialization effort
