In the south things are relatively quiet.

Perhaps few infantry rifle corps would have helped you to slow him down.

For sure, I already have several ideas for massive improvements.

The summer is far from over. The Soviets lose no units this turn but Leningrad is about to fall.
Eleven new armies are deployed, ten of them already upgraded.

The UK builds 20 merchants, the US builds 10.

UK heavy bombers get special supply (trucks) and bomb Berlin for 6 damage, suffering 8 steps. A heavy cost but Berlin now has 12 damage which will take some time to repair.

Northern front, quite a few panzers running around in the swamps and forests here:

Central front, if we get 5 more turns of clear weather I don't think Moscow can hold:

U-boats sink 6 merchants for 1 step loss.

The UK bomb Berlin again but it's a massacre. Maybe next summer if the Soviets are still holding out.

Russia loses one tank corps surrendered, 2 rifle corps shattered.

It's just about over for the Soviets.

U-boats sink 9 merchants for no losses. [&:]

Leningrad and Kursk surrender. Total losses one army surrendered, one corps and one army shattered.

The Germans have repaired the rail until the front and are at 9 supply, which seems a bit excessive.

The US builds 10 merchants.

Southern front, we have nothing to stop that mass of panzers.

U-boats sink 14 merchants and 4 escorts for 5 step losses. I have no idea how he does it, we have escorts and tech.

Canada builds an escort. A strategic bomber hits Milan for 2 damage... not going to build strategic bombers in any future games.

Soviets suffer an army, tank corps and rifle corps shattered.

At this point I don't see any realistic way to save Moscow or the Soviet Union.

At this point the Soviets sue for peace.

U-boats sink 6 merchants and suffer 2 steps.

Germany is conducting some sort of bizarre experiment at Konigsberg.

That one hex with the Armour unit in the swamp is in a different weather zone so doesn't get much snow and no blizzard. Therefore it is always fresh for Barbarossa. A little trick that Mother taught me cause she loved me best.

Lessons learnt this game:

1. Strategic bombers are not cost effective, stick to opportunistic strategic bombing with tactical units
2. The Soviets are in trouble! I have some ideas which I will be testing in my current games
3. The UK needs to minmax the Battle of the Atlantic (get to 30 escorts ASAP, builds merchants early)
4. The best early builds for the US seem to be merchants, since naval yards are limited
5. It may be of interest to the UK to grab Vichy North Africa before the Axis, if they can

1. Agreed. I know some people like to Build Strategic bombers, but as you say they are not cost effective.
2. Agreed. But I don't think there is anything the Russians can do to survive against a good Axis player. I thought my system stood a good chance, but you proved me wrong. Once you have tested your ideas let me know and I will give you a rematch.
3. Agreed, except you may also want to build some naval yards. But they also have to build some landing ships while also building up their ground strength. It can be very difficult for them to get the right balance, especially if the BOA starts going bad for them from the start.
4. Agreed, though I also build US naval yards.
5. To do this you need to build landing ships (obviously).
