Yes CTGW was a good game maybe not developed as much as SC WW1 did. Still Strategic Command World at War maybe more popular with Pacific theatre against SC WW'2 Europe. I think WW'1 is less popular among world wars.
Ageod's problem was both trying to design forgotten conflicts and at the same time battle mechanics (casualties and such)suitable to that time frame. So that unit models ATT&DEF stats did change between ACW (ACW defensive entrenchment levels were overpowered) and Wars in Succession or 30 years Wars. It needed big testing. And naval battles about Wars in Napoleon was problematic.

The only AGEOD game I got was TEAW, but as said before, lost interest in it. Strangely enough had got WBTS (War Between The States) by GG and 2 by 3 many years ago when it was first released and found it to be just like today's AGEOD games, WEGO with just ai controlled battles, again where the player was nothing more than a standby watching flashcards. Funny you should mention SCWWI: I bought it recently, played a few turns in Hot-Seat, then went MP, currently getting my arse kicked..[:D]

Kinda makes sense what you are saying, never thought of it that way. The only blog I go to is this one by Total War:
https://www.totalwar.com/blog/ in the hope they signal development of a game I'd like, it's easier than trying to enter the TW forum (rarely go there). The last time buying a TW game was in 2009 Napoleon Total War (NTW) and before that Empire (ETW) surprisingly I hope that TW does a CW, WWI, or some other forgotten conflict instead of the ___ ___ __ they do now. Other than that no other blogs. Asked for blog suggestions, so far none have come forth. Besides that, like coming here to chat and read others' material and comments, news of the day and try to figure out what makes someone tick, or have commonality with.

While a lot of discussions have moved to social media, personally I still prefer forums both in terms of the format being better suited to long-form writing and also the easy archiving and searching of information for future reading, not to mention the fact that you see everything, not just what your "feed" thinks you should. Hence, we're in the midst of a huge forum upgrade to make sure it's around for many years to come.
The various issues with time-outs, lag and logins have mainly been due to the growing distance in age between the forum and the rest of our site. The forum upgrade should resolve all of that.
Regards,
- Erik

I'm a bit scared about the upgrade, I really like the format of the forum as it currently is. I have no doubt that his old age may be problematic on a practical level, but still... I hope there are not very drastic changes.

I hope that it is probably more of a software upgrade since the software is so old. I also hope that older threads and information are not lost.

It will look a bit different, function better and with fewer issues and all old threads and content should be maintained.

Lapento ("İnebahtı" in Ottoman Turks language)
During my AGEod beta testing in Wars of Sucession I look forward to Ottoman Privateers but unfortunately couldn't find antyhing until Turkish historian Emrah Sefa Gürkan write a book about about "Pirates for the Sultan: Holy War, Booty and Slavery in the Ottoman Mediterranean, 1500 – 1700, İstanbul: Kronik, 2018" It is good book to read about life of the sailors and their multicultural life as they were mercenaries not The Janissaries deployed by Sultan. Italian, Spanish and Bâb-ı Âli (Constantinople) archieves are used.

Ya know for awhile there between 10/1/2021 and 10/4/21 the discussion thread "Regarding the Derby House Principles Announcement" got a lot of this forum's attention as evidenced by the number of members who followed the discussion, as well as those who participated in the discussion (the forum was most definitely alive). As a result felt this forum should have an off-topic thread, but also at the same time have to wonder how it would be handled and have doubts as to would it be a good idea to have an off topic thread due to mine or others' ids (always liked the movie Forbidden Planet circa 1957 as an example). Like many, visit this forum every day.

I put two different points together, I guess. What I was saying is all improvements that are planned be it an improved search, access to threads, consolidation, and whatever else makes navigating here better I'm very much glad for the planned upgrade. When I spoke of recent developments concerning Family friendly discussion and implementation that's where uncertainty and loss of enthusiasm took over. Participation? I have a thread I started. its gone on for a while. But is it family friendly? Who will find it objectionable and lodge a complaint? So I questioned myself, do i share anymore? Risk bringing it up to the top of General Discussion area. Squash. I can empathize with Warspite1

76819 Registered users have made 4 912 252 posts in 1221 forums. There are currently 406980 topics.
General discussion holds 278 764 of those posts. Or about 6% of the total. How many of that 6% are banned topics? Who knows, but I am going to guess it's a very insignificant number.
