A Major Airborne Operation in India - 30 Jan 1942

I'm tired of wallowing in inactivity, so it's time we jump start operations in India. Today I have committed to a major airborne operation, looking to seize major bases pointing toward our next area of operations. Japan's best and bravest take to their parachutes to open the path for our main body to move in and secure the area.

B-17s Will Be Our Undoing - 31 Jan 1942

I was worried about a counter-attack in India but Hellsen's B-17s and B-24s and it came today, with withering results. The single biggest threat we are going to face over the next several months in India are these 4E bombers hitting us at every turn. I'm dreading what's to come.

The Little Japanese Destroyer That Could - 1 Feb 1942

The new month didn't start well for us, with several major setbacks around the map, but one lone Japanese destroyer took on an entire task force alone and lived to tell the tail! Watch this turn and see what a single Japanese destroyer is capable of.

We Run into a Wall of Angry Submarines - 2 Feb 1942

My ASW efforts pushed the enemy submarines away, but not in the direction I had hoped. We ran into a wall of subs today and it cost us two valuable ships, and right now I don't have a good answer for it.

In India, China and Burma however we continue to make gains and the plan is progressing as expected.

Operation Foxtrot: The Invasion of Fiji - 3 Feb 1942

I had been keeping this operation a secret for a while but there's no denying it now: Operation Foxtrot, the invasion of Fiji has begun.

I am going in heavy with overwhelming force to quickly finish off the island garrison. We did encounter some aerial opposition, however.

In India, things appear to be getting back on track as a get my garrisons in order.

In China, the road is wide open to go in any direction we choose.

Palembang is ours! We're Swimming in Oil - 4 Feb 1942

After only two days of attacks we have successfully captured both Palembang and Miri. While Miri was an open and shut case, Palembang unfortunately was left as a smoldering ruins. We have been very lucky so far capturing bases with little to no damage elsewhere so we were bound to have a bad day at some point.

In China, we defeat partisan units attempting to disrupt our rail lines in many places, which will help get resources flowing again.

In the South Pacific, our campaign to capture Fiji rolls on with low ground casualties but more shipping losses from those pesky Singapore and Vincent aircraft.

A Giant Chinese Finger Trap - 5 Feb 1942

The war progresses well today. We make gains on in the Fijian Islands, China, Burma and India. There is trouble brewing on the horizon, with a wall of aircraft being sighted along Hellsen's anticipated lines of defense in India. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to deal with that.

For now, we will press on. At least in China, I am seeing a light at the end of a very distant tunnel, and Hellsen's about to be stuck in the middle of a giant Chinese Finger Trap.

That Balikpapan Crude is so SWEET! - 6 Feb 1942

Our valiant forces capture the oil port of Balikpapan, which is among the last of the oil centers we have a reasonable chance of capturing this campaign. The battle was swift and decisive and now we're going to enjoy some of that light sweet crude.

In SOPAC, an unfortunate discovery by the enemy means we need to get moving before the subs show up.

P-38s return and ruin my Day in India - 7 Feb 1942

As we draw closer to the defensive line Hellsen has established in India, we are being subjected to his airpower, which has been sitting idle and waiting for us for two months. We get a taste of the power of the P-38 today and it wasn't pretty.

Suva Falls! We got too many POWs now - 8 Feb 1942

It's been a week or so since we've touched this campaign but we're back and hitting the ground running. Suva falls in dominating fashion and our perimeter around the Fijian Islands continues to grow.

In India, we continue our slow and steady expansion. We've got good eyes on a mystery Chinese unit moving in the Bengal region, though it's exact composition and intention remains unknown.

In China, we're one day from arriving in the outskirts of Chengdu, and we're surrounded by Chinese troops on all sides.

Tarakan is in the Bag (And Subs too!) - 9 Feb 1942

We capture Tarakan in dominating fashion today with the aid of a shore bombardment, with minimal losses and the complete capitulation of the Dutch garrison. This could not have gone any better.

In the waters around Fiji, the Kido Butai continues its punishment of Allied subs in the area, sending them running south. As a bonus, we have multiple submarine sinking sounds!

The dreaded Allied counter-attack continues to elude us.... where is Hellsen?

Our Subs Find a BIG Target near India! - 10 Feb 1942

Between Hellsen moving and me being sick as a dog it's been a few weeks since my last update on this campaign, but today was a great one!

My subs found a VERY juicy target right off the coast of Cochin, India. Its discovery has tipped me off as to the location of Hellsen's deadliest weapon.

In China, we launch two major attacks and are successful in both. The noose is tightening on China quickly, and I can see a pathway to victory there more than ever.

Congratulations!

Whatever you do, stay at 39 years old. Most of the health issues and physical problems start at the age of 40 years old and the situation just get worse.

Thanks! Unfortunately a lot of those medical issues are catching up to me already after 22 years of military service.

The War is Over... The Allies Surrendered - 12 Feb 1942

by BananaConvention
Today is a solemn day for me. After over 9 months hard work, long discussion, days of setup, my Scenario 2 campaign with Hellsen has come to an abrupt end. He's thrown in the towel and is surrendering.

But I've got a special treat. I have his files and his password, and we are going to take a look at the campaign from his side and see where everything was at and what sort of condition he was really in.

Live AAR Discussion with Hellsen & Heiden!

Posted: Sat Dec 30, 2023 5:11 pm
by BananaConvention
Hellsen approached me today and suggested we do a live event on my Discord server to do an after action report on our campaign from both angles. I recorded the event and it turned out fantastic! I learned a lot, and so did he, and we had a chance to discuss everything. I had many questions answered about my strategy and decision making. We also got to interact with a lot of our Discord members.

If this event is well received on Youtube I may consider making this a semi-regular podcast-style thing. Let me know if you enjoy this discussion and if you want to see more stuff like this.
