The No.11 and No. 20 RAAF Catalinas at Port Moresby can help in this job too. I always try to get as many Aussies out of Rabaul as I can. I usually end up sending some xAPs as well.

You might want to change your picture.

Use the pick up troops function, you may have to send supplies there first then switch to pick up troops. Those troops in Hong Kong can go to China which is what I suggested. If you send out troops with no aviation support, then you planes might break and no one can fix them.

You get something like this. An unfocused mishmash of training all across the board. However, if your transport squadrons have been all trained up to the 70s for transport like this one why not?

So the pilots involved get a little bit of everything. That sounds cool and something to consider for the Soviet aircraft. But I'd like to make sure they are competent in their major skills first just in case. But I like the concept. Wish there were some way to exclude certain categories ( like straffing for bombers ). I'd like to see what difference it makes for the Soviets for sure. After I've got some experts I'll branch out to polish my pilots to be able to do just about anything.

I set the transport squadrons to 100 feet and then their defence goes up.

I'm sending SS KXVIII ( Dutch with good TT's ) to track down and assault the enemy task force northeast of Davo. It probably won't be in that position for long and it'll take me a couple of days to get there but with any luck at all it'll hang around that zone.

Are you saying that the defenses are higher during combat or that during their training their defense value increases ( or both )?

I do that after their transport skill is high enough to raise their defence and experience. Note: I did not make any reference to your avatar, it is about that picture on that post. I ran the 09dec41 turn and it turns out that the KB needed to do another visit and clobbered me good. I haven't looked at what's left useable but here's the list of the damaged ships and lots of them are still burning. I'm going to have to retrieve my carriers from where they are and bring them all to here for the support we're going to need to get past this little upset.

I'd like to redeem those Kingfishers and that Hudson but I have other priorities to meet first.

I checked out whether or not my troop transfer happened or not and it looks like it actually did work. It's not supposed to since my range doesn't come close to working but appearently it does. Somehow. Does anybody have a clue to how this might work or is it a bug?

Not a bug. You might be conflating range with radius. The manual states that ground units can be moved between friendly bases up to half (50%) the Maximum Range of the carrying aircraft. The maximum (one-way trip) range of a Catalina is 76 hexes. Half of 76 is 38 which is good enough to reach Wake from Midway. You can also look at is as 19 + 19 (Cat extended radius) =38.
Basically, the Catalinas spend the day flying to Wake, they land, unload the troops, refuel at Wake for the trip back (which effectively increases their range) and return to Midway.
