Good advice about damaged subs, and it also shows fuel endurance issues.

I check on every sub that made an attack last turn to see if they expended most or all of their torps. This is especially relevant for US subs with defective torps that will sometimes use all their torps trying to get one exploding hit! I have my subs in TFs of 2, so the TF might not RTB if only one of them is out of torps. With single subs the AI should send them home if fuel or torps are low (around 25%, I think).

Don't use more than one SS per TF. Only one can attack per TF (game engine limitation) and they are double as detectable. Plus subs cannot refuel other subs or anything.

I have become of some sort of "submarine connoisseur" in WitP-AE during all these years...as can be seen in my AARs.

Not true about 2 subs making only one attack. The very reason I use 2 in a TF is that the second sub often does attack, benefitting from the DL on the enemy being raised by the first sub attack and often finishing cripples. They also seem better at getting an intercept - 2 periscopes separated by a few miles is better than one!
