I get leery about changing leaders until the bug is destroyed. Since no one knows what the trigger is for it anyway.

Mainly my concern is just a "micromanagement" nutcase concern. I even list what units are assigned to what Army HQ. Even though it makes no difference in the game, my military training abhors lack of organization in chain of command.

One needs to split units as Allied because the land combat/movement part of the game is so poorly thought out. It's the only way one can even hope to threaten Japan supply lines.

Not so much happened today.Nothing good however for Japan. At Palembang my attack was stopped. Now i need to rest those units while some more engs will be brought in. A bomb TF is already moving to soften the bad guys down there.
Today all my bombers and fighters took another day of break, to realx and have a trip to the local "entretaiment" night club[:D]. For tomorrow is planned the first of some big raids over Rangoon AFs. AVG and Co. have already gained the number of 57( as my intel reports), so i need to smash them down from now on if i want to get this damned place!
Finally 1 division, 1 brigade and 1 arty units managed to come out of the ricefields and get on the railway between Chagasha and Handchow. More units are just 50-55/60 miles away. If these guys manage to resist to the probable attack of the chinese i still will have some hope for the Chinese front. If not...well you can guess....
At Yenen, after several losses i had to stop my attack. Same for Manila.
Who said that playing as Jap was easy???!!!
In the south pac, after the victorious raid of my KB2 over enemy seas, everything is quite. Soho arrived at Truk and will join KB2 . This big formation will continue this cat-mouse tactic against his convoys. He must not feel safe there!

Well, since email is being slow today, here is my advice.

In Japan, upgrade the 27 plane Claudes groups at Sasebo, Tokyo and Ominato. Assign them all to Southern Army command. Once repaired, send 2 to Burma and send 1 to China. You have plenty of Zeros in the pool for this.

At Bangkok, disband the F2/3rd Daitai into the F1/Yamada daitai. Remember to click yes for return in 90 days.
Send the 2 Para Reg to help the 33rd division. They are not much, but they are high experience.

Singapore:

All close MSW need to be sent to start clearing those mines out.
Load up the 18th and 56th Div and send them to Hong Kong. They will help stabalize China.
Load up the 5th and send it to Bangkok or keep it in Singapore but with enough AP's to quickly be sent there if needed.

Cam Rahn Bay:
Load up the 91st naval GD and send to Foochow. Once there, march the partial div to Canton.

Saigon:
load up the 81st naval gd and send to Foochow also.

Tokyo:
Load up the 82nd naval gd and the Yokahoma 5th SNLF and send to Wenchow. Once there, march the partial to Canton.

China proper:
Send Mongol Cav divisions from Manchuria to Tsingtao and Chengting. Once there, move the partials to their parents.

Form a second bombardment group and start hitting Mouleim to slow any advance he tries to make from there. Base them out of Singapore once it is cleared of mines. A 3rd TF would be better still, but you would need the BB's in Truk or Palau to do this with. (I can not remember where they were at).

Burma will hold IMO. China will take some work. Once Yenen is taken, that will really help. Get all those units back on the rail lines and keep them there if possible. Time to start thinking about recouping your losses and not offensive action at this time.

yes, i was thinking of doing this. What stopped my before was the forseing of these high experienced naval pilots later in the war...but, as the war is already crumbouling on Japan...i take this option. I've some doubts about sending a zero daitai to China. Down there there are no enemy fighters...

Already disbanded one daitai of zeros at Bankok 2 weeks ago..it's a pain to see those priceless groups gone, but again:i agree that nowdays these Hestetic considerations find no place

Ouh![:(] All those exp.paras units have been staying in that area for a long time preparing for BELMONT operation( drops at Pagan behind his lines while my armies was advancing northwards and my fleet was landing divisions at Chadupur...I'll think twice and give an aswer on next turn.

i've already sent to china 5 Cav div...i'm on the edge of 8200 points out of 8000...too scared to do that!

I've already moved 2 BBs and 2 CAs + 5 dd from truk to sAigon. They should arrive in 1 week i guess. BTW i will bomb all his bases on the bay of rangoon...i'm scared about mines, but cannot do anything else, except for prayin

I know i know...but but...mmm...my worry, my real worry is that once i've lost the grip on the war, i'll never get it back.BTW, your tips were wonderfull and i'll use most of them, but i'm already decided about putting myself on a defensive strategy. Maybe a little hope springs in the unfertile, dusty and bloody chinese ground. Few more units managed to get on the railway.Now Chagasha is cut of supply and he'll be forced to come in and play against at least 1000 assault point army strenght.
A big air battle over the skies of Rangoon. 9 zeros shot down for 16 of his AVG and RAF hurricaners. Not a victory.Not at all. Also because the bomber squadrons at Tavoy had to stay down due to the bad weather. Tomorrow we'll do it again and see what happens.
I melted togheder two depleted zero daitai as suggested. 3 more daitais are setting up in Japan.
Two paras units have been redirected from Bankok to Reaghen. Here there are now 4 big arty units that are beginning to make me pay the cost of my own stupidity. The front MUST HOLD!!!

I am just tossing out ideas here for you to use. You are not forced in any way to use them. The more ideas you get, the better informed your decision can be.

I would not march the 5th Div to Bangkok. They will arrive tired compared to by ship. Or once you start bombarding Mouleum and he is not advancing anymore there, drop back the 55th Div and bring them around to where the 33rd is and smash him there. He will have no choice but to cut and run.

Or you can immediatly dispatch the 21st brigade from Singapore to help out in Palembang. They can still be prepping for Java while doing this.

If your China army completely makes it back onto the rail in decent shape, you may be able to send just one division to Hong Kong and divert the other to Bangkok. Then you do not have to move the 55th at all. That will give you 2 divisions at each location. You might also think about moving an Engineer Reg or 2 from Singapore to Bangkok along with 1-2 Art units.

These are just ideas I am tossing out to you. Those China units that are off road sure are tired though.

Thanks 2ndACR, i've considered most of your ideas and applied them. I just do not agree with you on the general overview.Maybe i'm too optimistic, but i still think i can handle the offensve war if those sweet bastards in China will resisist on their position enough.For the moment only one Nv.Guard units from Camabra Bay has been moved back to China to help in stabilizing the mess down there.
The delayed Palembang conquest is another demonistration of my lack of professionality when setting up operations. Now i will need one more unit there and some engeneers too.
Now i see two operatons that have the priority over everything else:
Op. YELLOW MARBLE- the conquest of Java
Op. BELMONT 2 - the conquest of Burma and the annihilation of the bulk of his units in India.

Ok, as you all know i have limited resources and i't quite hard to immgine that you can conduct to big operations at the same time.
For BELMONT we need at least 4 divisions,plus a good number of Arty units, Base forces, tanks and HQs. At the moment, with the damned chinese front which absorbing many priceless divisions and units attached to the Southern Area Army, the only way to free up those divisions, would be the definitive conquest of Manila.
So, to lounch Belmont i first need Manila to fall. For java i prob can do with what is left in Singapore. I'll set up a detailed operations while my units will rest in Singapore untill they'll be fitted back for combat. In the while, Palembang must be taken.

KB1 has arrived at Camabra bay. It has to refuel and to recieve some planes( the ones lost in that horrible battle at Darwin). KB1 will operate for yellow Marble operation and for Belmont.

in the South-east pac things are quiter, a lot quiter, but i do not dare to be too positive. I've not seen yet a big TF moving towards PM.Maybe it means that it's not been fortified yet. I simply do not have the men, at the moment , to do anything for it, but i've ordered to one division(the 55th maybe, i do not remember) in Japan to pepare for Port Moresby.Even if i do not decide to invade it, if he gets this intel with Ultra, he'll be forced to do something about it and i could just react with KB2 and the Long range bombers. Rabaul is growing smoothly and the chain of solomon isles have been almost totally conquered. Lunga and Shortland have recieved their base forces(the same for Wewak) and one NLF unit plus a Costal Gun unit each. Some more engeeneers are on their way to help in fortifying the places. I really do not see any manace at the moment for the solomons, but i want to be ready when the american tide will come.
At Canton Island he keeps on sending convoys. I guess this would be he starting base for a future offensive in the pacific theatre, so i keep my KB2 ready at Truk with a surface TF( 2BBs,2CAs, 1CL and 10 DDs), as fire-estinguisher force. I'll be biulding up Tarawa. It has now 2 guards naval units, a Costal Gun Unit and a base force. 2 eng.units are on the way ( should arrive at Kwalieng(sp?!?!) in a couple of days)
At Palau it has started the operation for the conquest of Kendari AF. 4 NLF-SLNF are already on the sea with 2 TF, supported by a little surface TF( 1CL + 5dds). A Base force will join in from Tokyo in 1 week. The air cover will be provided by the air forces at Ambonia and Balikapan( or Tarakan. I have to check the distances in hexes on the map).Once this aim will be accomplished i'll get back all the units to Palau and reimbark them for the Yellow Marble operation. I think i will land on 2 different sides of Java, in order to split his defences. The main force will come down from Singapore and Saigon, while the other, smaller, group will be composed of NLFs from Palau area.
For the future...there's Timor...really really dubious about timor. I've seen what kind of forces he has at Darwin and i'm a bit worried. For sure i can take timor, but at which cost? This operation would need a great air cover. That means KB1 and KB2, while they will be needed in other more important theatres.....
To Timor or not to Timor...that is the question......

This games makes my sweat! In China the situation SEEMS to improve.(see Map). I managed to get on the railway more than 2000 assault points. My troops are tired, but not that much i think. It will be hard for him to kick me out. I now have to wait for an HQ to come in ( next turn ) and then i'll begin my attack. if the Gods of war will assist me i could cut the Chagasha garrison from all its communication lines!
While these things happen, at Burna the surprise is just behind the wall. At REaghen he managed to get in another 3 units, I guess the 18th UK div could be there. I know i will face several attacks in the next days. I'm preparing a defence. 2 paras units are already moving from bankok up there, while 2 eng units are fortifying the base just north of Bankok(on the railway) in order to form a second defensive line. A naval guard unit(91st) should arrive at Bankok in 2 days to reinforce the garrison. If needed i can order to the Imperial Guard to march back from Tavoy to Bankok. The attack on the AFs of rangoon was a succes today. 14 a/c were destroyed on the ground , while we lost only 1 bombers due to the AA fire. He did not have any CAP. I guess he's moving the AVG back to replace some planes and to prepare a big attack against my front line. My recon told me that a HUGE number of Bombers are ready to smash my poor guys at REaghen, surely to support the land attack that will break my defences. At Mandalay 85 bombers and 6 fighters were spotted on the AF!!!!!, while at Rangoon, after my attack of today, only 20 fighters and 19 aux planes were seen. At Akyab 36 fighters and 50 Aux...the whole RAF is facing us!!!!
In 2 days Singapore will be free of mines. 2 big supply/fuel convoys will move from Japan to set up this front base for my BELMONT and YELLOW MARBLE operations.

Ok, in China i have biult up a 2450 assault point army strong.They will attack tomorrow in order to isolate the Chagasha position and cut the retire route for the chinese. I hope this will be enough to stop his advance, even if my men are tired and under-supplied, they should be able to break the envelope and re-open a gate from where to get out of this situation.
In burma...well Burma is the key at the moment. He is almost ready to attack i think. My 2 paras rgts are on their way to Reaghen and a Tank Rgt has been ordered to move there too from Tavoy. his bombers( they reached the incredible number of 135 between Mandalay and Akyab) did not attack my position, probably due to the lack of escorts( my zeros are patrolling the skies over reaghen).
Today AF attack did not do so good. the army air forces based at Tavoy managed to loose 10 oscars and 8 bombers, for only 6 enemy planes destroyed. Now they need some rest, as usual. The level bombers will attack Moulmein base and Raghen, while the dive bombers will be set on Naval Attack. The zeros at Bankok will escort the nells and betties which are set to naval attack.
My bomb Tf is 2 days far from Rangoon. The weather forecasting says that tomorrow it's gonna be a horrible day, so i hope my fleet do not get spotted untill tomorrow.
In Malaya some of his enveloped units managed to get on the railway. A Mix bde has been ordered to get there and push them back
Manila and Yenen do not want to fall. this is a problem, cause i MUST free some divisions!!! Now few more resting days, then shock attack....let's hope

Well, not the most exiting turn so far. In Burma the cat and mouse game between RAF and IJA-IJNA air forces goes on. I'm bombing some f his bases and at the same time keeping an aye open on the sea of Bengal ..to see if the RN comes in and join the party.
My zeros are CAPing the bomb Tf, which is now, undiscovered at Victoria. 2 more days and i should give some exploding christmas presents to my opponent!
he's tryin to disturb my communication lines in Malaya with the troops that remained back when he tried to escape from Malaya in december. i dispatched some units to take care of those bastards!
He's minelaying activity is incrasing! But i managed to sink the first allied sub!
In china...oh in china the Chinese retreated from the railway and got back to Chagasha! my army is now free and Chagasha is completely sourrounded!!![:D] I'll wait some days in order to give time to my men to take a breath, and then move up there and close this endless chapter!

I hate Manila!

Well, the weather made the difference today.In China my whole air army had to stay at home, while his bombers pounded my brave men. At Burma the same: From Tavoy noone of the programmed air raids against Rangoon has take off.
My fleet managed to bomb Ragoon, causing some damages, especially to the ships anchored there, 5 of which sunk during the attack.
The RN has been spotted!!! Some 4 hex east of Rangoon. The entire air army has been allerted, while the fleet will pound muleim and come back to Singapore....a night engagement is very possibile[&:]
Rangoon is almost empty of fighters. This is a kind of victory. Now i can make pressure over his positions at Reaghen,Muleim and Rangoon itself.
The convoys who's moving towards Kendary spotted a 10 ships allied TF( Ak,Aps spotted)...it's too strange to be believable! What can a merchant covoy do in those enemy and risky water without air cover? This thing stinks...at Ambonia i have 27 nells ready and 20 Anns plus 9 zero CAPping my Kendary convoy...i fear a bad surprise for me[:-] His carriers have been in the shadows untill now...
In Malaya he's moving up his guerrilla units...i have to secure this area as soon as possible(see map)
His subs managed to lay a lot of mines at my bases. My first Ap was badly Hit in south pacific-_-

With the current ZOC approach, Rangoon is a death trap. No way. On PI, I can't move units from Clark to Manila or vice versa because of this gross misunderstanding of ZOC concepts. Clark is doomed, I'can't move anywhere except Bataan so my forces will remain split but allow you to concentrate,allowing destruction of Manila and Bataan in a few days. I have no idea how holding out into May can be recreated with the current game design. Fortifications are a joke, defender seems to get no benefit in combat, artillery is whimpy compared to a few bombs on light FBs or naval bombardments, supply is screwy and much too low and vulnerable....yada,yada,yada.[8|]

Comment on “I hate the new AVG rule”. First, I’m not sure where the pre-existing “Magic Zeros” rule came from – but if we’re stuck with that – the “anti-magic” AVG rule, might not be much worse.

In preparing to play the Allies ( currently I’m playing IJ in a one on one PBEM – but preparing to play the other side doesn’t hurt ) … I read up a little on the AVG ( AIR WAR, Jablonski, Vol. 2, pages 26-48 ) … from which I quote … “ Chennault … stressed the excellent fighting qualities of the Japanese Pilots” …. “introduced the Americans to the Zero fighter, indicating its strong points as compared with the P-40 … “ … “use your speed and power to make a pass shoot and break away” … note that some pilots ( who presumably preferred to “dogfight” ) resigned after hearing the dictate to “hit and run”.

While, It is probably true that in the early fighting in Burma, the AVG faced no Zeros and probably no naval fighters … Chennault ( per the above ) had addressed probably the only two rationalizations I can come up with for the original “Magic Zero” rule … those being assumption of Japanese pilot inferiority and many fighter pilots desire to “dogfight” ( a.k.a. turn and burn ) … from the start of WWII at least through the Vietnam Era … learning to “fight in the vertical” was a part of the US fighter problem. And indications are that the AVG was very successful in the early going .. I quote from an AVG History site … http://www.flyingtigersavg.com/tiger1.htm

The cold statistics for the 10 weeks the A.V.G. served at Rangoon show its strength varied between twenty and five serviceable P-40's. This tiny force met a total of a thousand-odd Japanese aircraft over Southern Burma and Thailand. In 31 encounters they destroyed 217 enemy planes and probably destroyed 43. Our losses in combat were four pilots killed in the air, one killed while strafing and one taken prisoner. Sixteen P-40's were destroyed. During the same period, the R.A.F., fighting side by side with the A.V.G., destroyed 74 enemy planes, probably destroyed 33, with a loss of 22 Buffaloes and Hurricanes.

Ok, probably i did not explain me. When i say i hate the zero rule, i say this with kind of smileon my lips( hope this is understandable in english). I speak as a japanese for what concerns this game. I was used to see how my zeros managed to get rid of the AVG( and i have to say that even in the first patch, the AVG was not an easy enemy!). I do not complain.Really enjoing this match!
I do not have the acknowledgment to say: "Yes, i swear that the AVG faced the zero", or "NO, i'm sure it did not". I've just read few books on this subject( one of which is Boyington memories). So i leave the argument to those who are more well known about it.

Rangoon in 2 days suffered more than in the last 3 weeks! he moved his fighter force at Akyab. These planes destroyed were the ones left damaged on the AFs. This result is important because i force him to get back with his defensive-aerial-line. If i manage to take those p-40 away from the Rangoon AFs, it's gonna be more difficult for him to resupply the front line and my bombers won't suffer anymore those tremendous losses. Now it depends on weather.
