Yes that makes sense. I remember BTR well, and the toggles available for droptanks, 20mm gondolas, rockets, etc. I've often wondered why those features never made it into UV or WitP. Typically its explained as too much detail for such an operational game.

My hope was that the editor might allow us to trick the system and have our cake and eat it too.

What if for example: Hurricane is given only one bomb load. That load is its only bomb load. In other words

Short Range(2-3hexes or watever is accurate)= The only bomb load
Long Range = No bomb load

Is that possible within the limitations of the editor? I didn't see anything in the editor that allowed you to manipulate bomb loads. That is why I asked if normal and reduced bomb load was afunction of endurance and max load?

That is what really irks me "too much detail for this operational game".

My friggin a/c will not go after PT boats unless I manually give the order to go to 100'. And then I have to pray they really do go after the PT boats and not the POW and company.

You have the ability to totally alter production yet the computer will override alot of your decisions. I will avoid the a/c upgrade paths now that they are fixed.

40% of this game was done in BTR and alot better IMO. Production, R&D, upgrade paths, fighters auto diving on targets of opportunity, AA fire really works, a doctrine setting for a/c to priority target bombers or fighters. GG left all this stuff out and it just baffles me.

I'd really like to see BTRs weather model added to WitP. Just imagine the planning benefits. Particulary for use at sea.

...A CV TF rides the coat tails of a cold front, the weather blows over an enemy position and with it comes a suprise carrier strike. Would add a new dynamic to the game. Or maybe a lonely AP carrying evacuees from Manila or Singapore ducks under an overcast at the last moment to avoid detection and certain destruction by a "transport hunter" CVL TF. That would be cool

That would be too cool. If only, if only. Curse those words.

BTR's weather, production scheme, industry setup, doctrine settings, heavy detail, all set in the Pacific.

That is what I really expected when I bought it.

Don't forget the friendly fire routine !!!

And don't forget that little wisp of clouds on a 5% coverage causing the whole fighter force to abort leaving your bombers as fresh meat for the enemy

They were not delivered prior to the end in the NEI. They were enroute aboard the U.S. Army Transport Mapia and merchant ships Tabian and Weltevreden. Most of the Kingfishers ended up with U.S. Naval Units in Australia and the South Pacific. And, if I recall, a few served with the RAAF.

just thinking they might replace the fokkers on the cruisers...keeping all those fokkers in production is rather unhistorical too..that also counts for the TIVa.

btw don..got my email? reply! so i can send the one side shot of the soerabaja i found.

In my mod i tried to eliminate production of aircraft that should not have any production.
The Buffalos and Devestators are my crowning achievement.

Many Allied fanboys complain about the short range of allied heavy bombers; i complain about the bombload they can carry over ridiculus ranges.

B17's and B24's both replaced bombs with fuel tanks for long range missions. Some of the early war patrol missions flown by B17's were flown with just 2 or 4 500lb bombs.

Mike

Same goes for Nell and Betty with torp range!

That is why Nells & Betties have shorter range in the mod Ron.

I could use everyone's help testing my planetops. The only WitP game I am currently involved in is still early in the war, so I don;t regularly see all my work in game.

Between work, family, and my PBEM game I have very little time for the art during the week, thus the current drought of updates. I have the alpha's done for most if not all of the current planetops in my post.

If anyone would like to get copies of the latest files PM me with a good email address. Feel free to test them in your current games or set up a scenario that will view them all.

Mike,
Do you have a list of new A/C that need art? Otherwise I will continue updating current aircraft.
