Yes it's slightly annoying that every time i manage to put together a raid the japanese taskforces have already sailed away and little is left to sink. On the other hand i've lost little to their opposition as well so i guess its good.

Oh, btw, my combat replay showed that the japanese attack at Kuala Lumpur succeded 5 to 1 and reduced forts to two and routed the defenders [&:]

I just have the combat report to work with so this report will be a bit messy

First of all a dutch sub KXVII torpedoed and shelled japanese AK Tone Maru which later sunk. During the same night japanese troop transport hit a mine at Khota bharu and suffered some damage, Kuantan was bombarded and invaders started unloading over Kendari beach.

During the day japanese forces attacked at Kuala Lumpur and captured it, allied units not making out in time [:(]. In return dutch airforce bombed Kuching harbor and scored a hit on an AK sitting there. Invasion fleet at Kendari was attacked by torpedo bombers and CA Ashigara took three torpedoes, suffering heavy damage. We hope she sinks [:D] Japanese also started unloading over the beach of Cebu island and made a failed shock attack in china.

Bloody B-17's still[:(] refuse to fly in Singapore

Burma
British and Chinese planes bombed Tavoy airfield.

Malaya
During the night, a Japanese AP hit a sub-laid mine off Khota Bharu while a Japanese surface force bombed Kuantan. Blenheim bombed Khota Bharu airfield as usual.
All available Ki-21 bombed Allied troops in Kuantan. A schock attack by 3 Japanese divisions and 1 Tank Rgt took Kuala Lumpur, repulsing 4 Allied Brigades and a Base Force.

Borneo
During the night, a solitary AK was sunk south of Saigon by a Dutch SS in a surface attack. During the day Allied bombers attacked Kuching port and hit a damaged transport docked here.

PI
A damaged Japanese AP sank in Tawi Tawi during the night. Japanese troops (35th Bde and a SNLF) landed in Cebu, that was defended by a Philipino Division. CD fire hit 4 AP and 2 escorts, most of them slightly. Japanese planes continuedt heir usual unopposed bombing raids over Luzon.

Celebes
Japanese troops landed in Kendari during the night, after crossing a minefield without loss.
Tens of Allied planes based in Macassar attacked ships off this base during the day. Only some Zeroes were flying LRCAP and shot down 1 Martin 139 and 1 T.IVa. AA fire shot down another T.IVa and 1 Swordfish but Allied won the day as the CA Ashigara was torpedoed once in the morning and twice in the afternoon by Swordfishes.

Rabaul
Japanese troops were now rested and launched a schock attack against the base, destroying most of the fortifications.

China
Usual artillery fire in Yenen. A Japanese Brigade and 2/3 of a division surrounded S of Changsha launched a banzai charge to manage a break out but they faced 8 Chinese Corps and were repulsed with 3000+ casualties.

Burma

Malaya
As usual Khota Bharu was bombed by Blenheims during the night.
Japanese troops landed in Kuantan during the night and joined the 18th Div facing two British brigades. 96 Sally bombed the Allied lines during the day.
During the afternoon, 10 unescorted Nells tried to attack ships off Singapore but met 20 Allied fighters. 3 Nells were shot down and the others turned back.

Borneo

Zaombaga sent a delegation to surrender to Japanese forces.
A troop-laden AP was torpedoed by an American submarine S of Mindanao during the night. Two other submarines attacked convoys NE of Luzon without success.
Japanese troops continued to land on Cebu. Coastal guns hit 4 AP and 2 PG during the night and day.
Allied planes were now based in Davao and flied from there to attack ships off Jolo (6 Beauforts) and Tawi Tawi (3 Swordfishes) but missed.
Japanese engineers expanded Lingayen airfield to size 2.

Another Japanese shock attack took the last defence line of the Allied troops but they didn’t surrender.

Pacific
Another damaged TK sank under tow just off Pearl Harbor.
In the evening an AP was missed by a Japanese submarine NW of Johnston Island.

Japanese troops isolated S of Changsha were bombed by 19 SB-2 and then attacked by overwhelming forces (348 to 1) but held their position with Bushido spirit.

Two Japanese TF (25-30 ships, BB, CA, DD) pounded Kuantan during the night but only artillery fire was reported here.

During the night a Japanese ASW group found SS Tarpon north of Vigan and an APD sank her. A damaged TK also sank during the night in Manila port.

Japanese troops continued to land on Cebu. Coastal guns hit 1 AP. The island fell during the day to the 35th Bde and a SNLF. The 81st PA Div and 120th USN BF surrender (6700 POWs).
58 Japanese bombers from Cagayan bombed Davao airfield, meeting no opposition but doing very little damage.

Celebes
Kendari defenders launched a counter-attack. All Japanese troops had been evacuated except some stragglers (a disabled squad) that were eliminated before the evening.
Several Japanese TF were reported east of Timor. During the afternoon, 12 Hudsons took off from Darwin to attack reported transports. They had the surprise to meet 80 Zeroes flying CAP. Kido Butai joined the convoy in the morning. 10 Hudsons were shot down, the last two missed an AP before returning to base.

Rabaul
A Japanese TF (4 CL and 3 DD) bombarded the base night and day, destroying two planes. 3 Hudsons attacked it but missed.
But a new Japanese shock attack still failed to take the town.

Australia
First report of Japanese activity on Australian shores. An unescorted TK was attacked NE of Cooktown by RO-64, that reported a heavy explosion after two torpedo hit.

Pacific
During the night, SS I-2 evaded 4 American DD N of Palmyra Atoll.
DD USS Benham, damaged some times ago by a Japanese submarine, sank while trying to reach a port big enough to be docked.

The 32nd Japanese Division retook Kaifeng, that had been left by Chinese troops.

I've got little to add to AmiralLaurent's post other than the increasing frustration directed at my bombers in singapore, japanese defense south of Changsha and the overwhelming joy that Kendari has been spared for a day or two [:D]

Here is the map of the current situation. Red is the ingame line of japanese occupation, rabaul has not fallen yet but will tomorrow so i've given it to the japs. Yellow is the historical limit of japanese expansion on 31st december 1941. As you can see the japs have advanced faster than historical everywhere but philippines. Ambonia and its surroundings didn't fall historically until late january as did Tavoy

As usual Khota Bharu was bombed by Blenheims during the night.
The CL Glasgow and DD Isis and Encounter try a raid off Kuantan during the night but were surprised by a bombardment TF of 6 CA, 1 CL and 8 DD. Encounter was torpedoed and exploded before the British reacted by opening fire at 7000 yards. Isis managed to torpedo the CA Chokai but both ships were quickly sunk (Glasgow when his magazine exploded under several 8in shells) without scoring more hits. The Japanese TF then bombed the base. British forces retreated from the area during the day but Japanese troops didn’t attack.

Sumatra
I-154 torpedoed in the evening an AK W of Toboali and escaped the escort ship, a MSW.

Borneo
19 Betties from Jolo attacked the Dutch DD Van Ghent off Tarakan. The 3 first scored two hits and sank her, the 16 other brought back torpedoes to base.

PI
The island E of Cebu sent a delegation to surrender to Japanese forces.
In the morning a Japanese DD chased unsuccessfully a SS N of Luzon.
53 Japanese bombers from Cagayan bombed Davao airfield.

Celebes
Japanese troops (3 NLF and 1 Construction Bn) landed in Menado in the evening.

Australia
The Dutch TK damaged yesterday was sunk during the night by a Japanese submarine S of Thrusday Island. Another damaged AO sank in the afternoon some hundred miles NW.
The Japanese convoy sailing north of Darwin was attacked by 3 Hudsons. The 87 Zeroes flying CAP shot down all of them.
In the evening, RO-62 attacked a TK E of Darwin and hit her with two torpedoes but was hit in return by her escort, a MSW. Both ships survived the encounter.

Rabaul
The base was bombed by 3 CL and 4 DD night and day and fell but the whole garnison retreated towards Arawe, even if Japanese hold both bases behind Rabaul and Arawe. 5 unserviceable planes were taken on the airfield.

Pacific
A DMS and a MSW are busy sweeping mines off Midway.

Winston isn't particularly amused about the loss of three royal navy ships. The only consolation is that CA Chokai is atleast temporarily out of action.

Last few turns have been relatively quiet altho the KB accompanying several transport fleets and heading towards darwin is a bit worrying to say the least.

In return we have launched the operation "Annoy the little yellow man!" We expect results within a few days

As usual Khota Bharu was bombed by Blenheims during the night. In the mronong, Singapore B-17 bombed Khota Bharu and Kuala Lumpur airfields.
Japanese troops landed in Kuantan but suffered heavy losses in the heavy surf (1483 losses). Allied troops have left the area.

Borneo
Bombers from Singkawang attacked twice during the day a convoy unloading in Kuching and hit 4 APs with bombs.
Singapore bombers also bombed Kuching.

PI
During the night, a submarine was chased unsuccessfully by a Japanese ASW group NW of Luzon. In the morning another misses an unescorted AK S of Hong Kong and another also misses a TK south of Mindanao and evades her escort, a MSW.

Malaya
As usual Khota Bharu was bombed by Blenheims during the night. Japanese replied for the first time at night when 6 Nells from Saigon bombed Singapore. Both raids were ineffective.
Japanese troops occupied the undefended base of Kuantan (taken by the 18th and 56th Div and 2 Eng Rgt after being bombarde by 2 BBs, 1 Ca, 1 CL and 10 DDs) and launched a schok attack in Malacca with 4 Divisions and 1 Tk Rgt. The defenders (6 Bdes and 3 BF) were just able to hold but should leave all their prepared positions in front of the town (assault at 4/1 reduces the fort from 3 to 0).

Borneo
Zeroes appeared over Kuching and opposed raids on the airfield (14 Blenheim I and 20 escorts from Singkanwang, and later 68 unescorted heavy and 19 medium bombers from Singapore) and on ships off the port (9 Vildebeest and 32 escorts from Singkanwang). Despite being outnumbered (max strength was 18), Zeroes shot down 10 CW-21B Demon, 4 Brewster 339D, 4 P-40E, 4 Blenheim I, 2 Hudsons and 2 B-17E. 7 Zeroes were lost in air battles and another destroyed on the ground (the only ground loss). LCDR Ikura I of F2/3rd Daitai scored here his 11th kill. No ship were hit.
Farther east 3 Martin 139 from Tarakan missed a DD N of Miri.

PI
During the night, SS S-36 hit a troop-laden AP north of Aprri but was then chased by 3 PC and sunk by 7 depth charges hits.
Davao was pounded during the night by two BB and 1335 casualties were counted after the very effective attack. 41 Japanese bombers from Cagayan bombed Allied troops in Davao (a BF and a Philipino Div).

Celebes
Things started well in this area when SS S-37 managed to sneak inside a Japanese CV TF and attacked the CVE Hosho. But she missed and then escaped the escort (3 DDs).
Menado was bombed during the night by 3 cruisers and then attacked by 3 NLFs and fell. The whole garrison surrendered (3900 POWs).

Timor
Allied search planes reported one Japanese TF 180 miles E Lautem. In the evening, Japanese paratroops landed on Dili, in the center of the island, and occupied the airfield.

Rabaul
Japanese landed in Admiralty Islands and took the undefended Kavieng.

Pacific
Japanese submarines continued to decimate unescorted Allied shipping. An AK was sunk during the night 300 miles S of Efate and a TK was heavily damaged in the morning by a surface attack 120 miles E of Midway.

China
42 Ki-48 bombed Wuchow airfield and lost one aircarft to AA. 13 Il-4 and 27 Blenheim IV from Kweilin bombed Hong Kong but scored no hit at all.
Artillery fire in Yenen. 5 Japaense Div, 2 Bds, 1 Tk Rgt and 1 ART Rgt face 8 Chinese Corps, 1 Div and 1 BF.

Ben Afleck? Amazing how all these pilots are so bloody good! Guess Welch is as good as Werner Moelders, Sakai, Buzz Buerling, Kuznetsov, Marseille...[8|] Perhaps the majority of pilots should really be in the 50's.

He scored his nine kills two days after the first PH when KB returned to Hawai to chase ships. All Zeroes decided to escort a raid against shipping S of PH and let one hundred of Kates and Vals fly without escort to PH.

I agree that nine kills is a bit high.
