Hoi and Witp

I'm some what suprised that Witp has not captured more Hoi users.
I'll bet a lot Witp users bought Hoi. I liked the idea of Hoi, but found even after all of the patches it was a unstable mess. Maybe Matrix should have marketed Witp as a stratgy game[:D]

HOI is not even a real war game. It's generic war. All the same plane except different levels. Same with ships. People who play that game don't want the level of detail where you have 50 types of planes. Heck there are even some on this board who want it that way. That's why I can not get into a game like HOI or even WaW.

I don't want PBEM opponents who want to say "I finished a game"
I want ones who will say "I fought the war"

I fought the war...but the war won!
I fought the war..but the war won...
I see no sense in including all the detail but then turning off the reports and animations and using 3 day turns just "to speed things up"

I like the animations myself. 2 day turns for PBEM work better for me because i simply dont wish to take 2-3 years to play one game, regardless of my enjoyment level. I like a certain pace and on average i can only get in one turn per day over PBEM.

(Personally, I'd like to see a game with the complexity of WitP but covering the entire globe, so the US actually has to take into consideration the split of resources between the two major theatres of the war.)

Such a game exists now, HOI2, released just a couple weeks ago. It may not be quite as detailed as WiTP, but there is some hope of finishing it one lifetime.

Its too soon to tell how accurate the model is, especially for naval and air combat, but early signs look encouraging.

If its anything like the first Hoi, it'll be immensly fun and addictive, but no where NEAR the scale of WiTP.

Mr. Frag, i think this awesome game only need some more advertisment. If more people would know this game i'm sure many more new customers you'll have. I always try to force my friends to take a look at the site .....

It's a great GAME, but it is decidedly NOT what this group for former beta testers disguised as Mods claim a "historic simulation". It is historic only in terms that the initial start is historic and the units and their capabilities are relatively historic. But after the first turn, there is NOTHING historic about it. As Japan you can use the production/research system to totally convolute the Japanese inventory, and as Allies you can mass forces and drive right to the PI in 1943 or have Chinese troops land and take Okinawa in 1943!!! It's a great GAME! but history, it is NOT. People need to simply drop that notion.

I thought it was due to the "deep penetration" phrase... that can knock a robot's socks off! :)

Sorry for posting something out of order, but the "Wish Thread" is locked, and that here seems an appropriate thread for a few ideas for WITP2:
# It took me about a week (real world) to figure out that fuel doesn't include avgas. (I know, I know, read the manual, stupid...). How about having avgas for airplane as the third logistics need besides bunker oil for ships and supplies for everybody?
# There should be a possibility to let pioneers build new railways, railyards and roads.
# There should be a possibility to let pioneers build auxilary airfields.
# The Jap industry should have a central screen with a possibilty to manipulate the industry on a single screen.
# Japs did ops in the Indian Ocean as far as the African coast. Chance to include that?
# The Fleet needs real waypoints. (I know I can do that with the "do not retire" option, but waypoints would be nice.
# The whole industry system could be broadend and designed more flexible.
Just my ideas.

but the "Wish Thread" is locked,

Hmm, not deliberately, just shuffled it into the sub forum to make this place more readable for people with smaller screens.

My WAG at 20,000 may have been overly optimistic...in a later post, someone mentioned that 10,000-15,000 was the expected sales level...maybe Matrix should release the game in boxed form at this time for $50...might be able to generate another 10,000 in sales...perhaps then we can have a sufficient customer base to warrant a continuous improvement cycle as opposed to the typical "make it-play it-put it on the shelf" scenario common to most games that don't have spectacular sales.
