All I can do is present the facts....
Not a whole lot of action today. A 2 DD ASW TF was busy searching for a Glen sub off LA today; in 3 separate actions the following happened:
1. Nothing found
2. Found him one DD dropped and missed
3. Sub shot, missed and was unlocated by DD's.
Meanwhile, at Sitka I., low level intruders penetrate IJN airspace to deliver some calling cards to the current residents during the current snowstorm:

Hi, No there are TF of AK loaded only with supply. The screen shot is only troop transport TF. Kodiak had over 100k unloaded. Sitka has 100k being unloaded and still several large TF of supply remain at sea.

This is going to be very difficult partly because I am guessing the allies wont have sent all non west coast units to the frontline ASAP after PH attack
So the US will have more forces in SF than a normal PBEM would have at this stage air ground and sea.
I think its probably impossible with only 300k men for that reason alone.
Be interesting to find out though

I was thinking that too, that because Tabpub knows Mogs intentions already, it's not all that fair a scenario.
But then, thinking about it, Mog's had to strip every other operation to pull this off, so an Allied player would probably work it out pretty fast anyway...

Regarding troops/planes, none of the units left for the Pacific (not that there are that many of note by the middle of January) and some of the Anchorage troops left on AK's the day the Combined Fleet showed up in the Aleutians. But supply convoys have been going to PH since the beginning with no loss that I can recall. With no attacks of note on the DEI anymore, subs from the Asiatic have been tasked with SLOC operations.

Today the Japanese forces moved closer to the coast today; apparently toward the Northwest and Prince Rupert. No sign of naval air cover was evident during the attacks. Expect enemy troops to land at PR either tomorrow or day after. Elsewhere in the Pacific all is quiet; the entire attention of the nation is drawn to about 1,000,000 square miles of the NE Pacific and the impending escalation of the conflict.

Well, you can't expect many hits on ships under way from B-17's. For that matter, the Bolos aren't nearly as good as the Mitchells. Now, if you could just get Churchill to order some Beauforts to the area. . .

Sorry for the cut and paste here, but I should have been out the door 10 minutes ago.
LBA spanks some more AK fanny has they are hustling to the NW toward Rupert, which got plastered by 1/2 the IJN surface force today. And near Anchorage, a PT sallies forth and night intercepts a IJN force that included an AD and AR; sinks a MSW and dies like Butch Cassidy.

Hmmm. If taking Prince Rupert is causing this much damage to Japanese shipping, an invasion of Frisco might not leave Mogami with enough to support the Japanese economy!

I think, would need the other side to confirm/deny, that the air raids on the transports were either negligence on his part or the result of getting cold feet on a stab at Puget Sound area. Personally, I can't think of any reason to take the course he did with them if the ultimate goal was the PR base. With the amount of TF's in one area that he is running, I wouldn't be surprised at a bit of confusion; he did compare it to "herding cats" earlier.
Landings at PR have commenced; the base forces here get the word to "bug out" and head for higher ground. Some mine hits on 2-3 ships as I recall; so you know what my sub fleet has been up to for the last week or two.
I have compiled a listing of the LCU's that will be released to active duty upon the IJA's crossing of the "border". Will be doing one for the LBA next; if you would like either/both, PM me and I will email it out. I know that I could post it, as all anyone has to do is fire up the scen 15, and they can figure out pretty closely what is where and when, but I don't want to make anyones job easier....plus, it doesn't blow the suspense for those that don't want to know.
To AL: You mentioned the RR hex between Vancouver and Seattle in an earlier posting. I went and had my people look it over and it is marked as a land hex, not coastal? Were you thinking of something different, or from a different map edition or something?

Well, I had not the map under the eyes and thought there were some possible landing sites outside cities but I was wrong. Only coastal hexes with rail are one between Anchorage and Juneau, roughly in the middle, and one in south of California.
As for defending open terrain hexes, yes WITP is not good for that. I have never done an opposed landing but will the defending unit fire at landing or not in this case? If not it is a bug. It it fires then they are OK to me.
As a programmer myself, I can't understand why the landing procedures in WITP should be managed differently in bases and open hexes. If this is the case, the game probably checks if you land on an enemy base and if it is the case you will suffer disruption, artillery fire and so on. The good check is to check if you land on a friendly base. In all other cases you will suffer disruption and eventual enemy fire.
By the way I will still land in Vancouver/Seattle, probably direct in Vancouver.

Hi, I let my transports get too far south and too near the coast. I was waiting for the slower ones to catch up and I could not make up my mind where to land. The air attacks convinced me to stay inside A6m2 land based cover.
Any time you see me landing on a non dot hex there is only one explanation. The transports are burning (sinking) and I am trying to get the troops off before the ships sink. So there are some Japanese units coming ashore on non dot hexes. These units will only get orders to rejoin their parent formation.
I am at least 2 weeks behind where a compentant Japanese player conducting this operation would be.

You really think so ? ... in my PH invasion attempt I landed only on 25 January and that is far closer than WC. And you have more than twice troops to carry (I can't imagine how you manage to provide all these ships with fuel).
By the way I landed last turn a SNLF in a non-dot "defended" by the remmants of a British BF and the landing screen was as usual, with 90 cas taken by my unit during landing. I don't know if the defending unit may fire or not but I guess it can too, but in this case had no more guns.
