Jarhead if you have purchased other Matrix games, have you bought Uncommon Valor? That;s the best way to compare with WitP. UV is only one small area of Witp. Tou need to buy UV anyway to get used to the engine and then you won't have such objections to the price. It may take a month or so to play UV, it takes many months to play Witp. Its the excitement of the game that is difficult to convey in words. There are others who can describe it better than I.

I have posted replies about this topic before and after a year of playing it is still the same. I could not have spent 70.00 any better. I play this game almost every day, I have made a few aquaintances, increased my knoweldge of the pacific war. The game has been supported by both MG and a whole host of avid players. Next tme you go out for a good dinner ant a nice resturant and the bill is 100.00 , you may remember that night but the satisfaction is temporary this game has lasted a year. I've been wanting to buy SP but don't see the time to play it. I will get it eventually, but htis game has given me hundreds of dollars worth of entertainment. Sorry about all the spelling errors.

Hi, It is almost a case of "If you have to ask you can't afford it" because this is a hard game to play. People who like WITP think it is worth 70 so the entire thread is an insult.
I really wonder how a person who has not played it can quote a fair price. Notice the people who do own it think 70 was fair (or low)
But really how can you say 49 without ever seeing the product? what is this magic 49?

I may be flamed for this but what I think is an insult is how he was treated by people when he asked a legitimate question (granted he could have phrased it differently). This game is based on a real war in which thousands of people died to save the world from tyranny and, for us Americans, protect the constitution. One of those protections is freedom of speach. You may not agree with what one says but if you honor the constitution and those who served and died to protect it, you must agree with the person's right to say it. I think the hijacking of this thread by people who ignored his question and talked about beer not only did Jarhead a disservice, but also this forum and more importantly the men and women who fought and died in the Pacific and who's bravery ultimately made this game even possible.

Sorry if I've ruffled any feathers here and I'll get off my soapbox now.

Because it is the accepted market price for a new game. Ask a stupid question and all that...

Just strip out the OOB and map and charge $49.99 for the game, then $20.00 for the campaigns and research and $10.00 for the CD, that would save half this headache. Of course that would require the game have alot of the hardcoding removed, but how hard could that be...

I've said this before and I'll say it once again, I would have paid twice as much and even more for this game. $69 is chump change for a game this deep and complex. I've been here almost a year and still haven't gotten past july '42 in the 3 entire campaign games I have been involved in. This game along with CoG will be the only 2 games I will spend my time playing. Besides, I am sick and tired of those 'other' games that you waste money on then after a week are on the shelf collecting dust. As for Dereck, lighten up, the war is over man.[;)] Any time I see a veteran I hug em anyways, I try to understand what sacrifice means.

Done right, it would have easily justified a $159.95 pricetag, and still been the cheapest money for time spent investment you ever made. Even with it's flaws, it's still easily worth $80 bucks.

This game is the best game purchase I ever made - cheaper than chips per day for such a ton of entertainment. I have been playing AI for a year and a half a still love it. The next 3 years will be PBEM. You guys could have charged $500 I would still have bought it - but then I am a total fool

Did Kid say they were releasing WITP on XBOX? lets see to upgrade air craft hit "Y" key then THumb over with the left button, piull the trigger. OH yea bring it on.[X(]

Seriously, this game is for a small market of peopl, selling it for $49 would have brought it a bunch more who would have trashed it as unplayable etc. I to would have paid more, I had been waiting years for Pacwars big brother to show up![&o]

Uhhh...Derek, not flaming you but pointing out that there is no freedom of anything in a private forum. The Constitution does NOT apply here.

Someone who comes in with guns blazin' should expect the same response the Japs got when they opened their can of whoopa$$ on Dec 7th.

And that war was NOT fought to defend the constitution either. It was purely payback from the time the first bomb exploded in PH (well, thats just my opinion).[:D]

When you buy this game, you will actually KEEP on playing it for the rest of the year. I bought it in august last year, and spend A LOT of time playing it, and it KEEPS interesting .I have bought games like FARCRY, HALF LIFE 2 etz. You spend 4 days playing it, finish the game, play it a second time, finish the game in three days, and never play the game again. This game may cost a bit more than "standard" games, but you will enjoy it FAR, FAR longer. After 6 months of playing the AI might not be enough challenge anymore, and then you can go PBEM. Play this game PBEM and you will get a VERY exiting ride....

This game is worth every penny….

Thank you for the serious reply...

But rather than comparing WiTP to games like Farcray and Half-life 2, can you compare it to other Matrix titles...especially in terms of value? Again...why is CoG $49.99 and WiTP $69.99/79.99?

Your serious responses are appreciated...

CoG didn't get much play from me, I'm still playing WITP though. Most lastable game I've ever played.

Since I bought WITP I've got through about half a dozen lesser games, all of which are now collecting dust.

Doh,

Forgot to say...aside from UO this game is the game that has taken more of my time than any other. Price was worth it, and will continue to be worth it for some time to come regardless of the games flaws.

Thank you...thats all I was asking for...I don't agree with the logic, but thats not the point...I see the argument, but from my perspective, lower the price a little and more people will buy it...plain and simple if you ask me...at a price of 70-ish bucks, you are only going to sell to the "fan boys"...why limit the customer base...it just doesn't make sense...I want this game, but not at that price...period...
I am going to put on my economist hat for a minute. :)

Unfortunately, the demand curve is relatively price insensitive on a game like WitP. I would bet a lot of money that increasing or decreasing the cost of the game would not have changed the numbers sold enough to offset the lost revenue from the price decrease. The fact is, WitP occurs for many people as work, not a game. It takes a really special kind of nut (this variety of nut is often referred to as a Grognard) to enjoy it. The number of copies that will ever be sold of WitP is small compared to other games you mentioned, yet the development cost for it was similar. With fewer copies sold, and similar costs, the equation pretty much demands a higher cost.

For those of us that like this kind of game, we have a choice. Don't pay the cost (and likely not see similar games attempted in the future), or pay what the game is worth in terms of the enjoyment we get out of it. The only game that comes close in terms of hours played for me, has been Everquest. The difference is, I payed more like $1200 for Everquest during the 4 years I played it (expansions, monthly fees, etc. for 4 accounts for 4 years.) WitP is a bargain at $70.

"$79.00 for physical copy???? $69.00 for digital download???? What what what!?!?!?! Thats insane...I had held off from buying this one, but had finally convinced myself to take the plunge...then I saw the price tag...have you guys gone nuts? I tolerate the $49.99 price tag on some games because of the niche topics covered, by $69.99, thats just highway robbery...sorry to say it, but you guys should be ashamed...

Your next game should be a sequel to Highway to the Reich...call it Highway to the Bank...because at those prices, thats where matrix is laughing themselves...all the way to the bank... "

Hi, That is the orginal post. Now how anyone can mistake that for a legit question is beyond me. Jarhead has already made up his mind and is letting Matrix and the forum know it. 69 is "INSANE" Also notice he "tolerates" 49. And he ends telling matrix they should be ashamed.
That is not a question it is an editoral and editorials are allowed rebuttals.
Jarheads decides price without even seeing the product. In my opinion sometimes 29.95 is too much and 150 is too little but I don't know before I try it. I understand sometimes a person cannot afford something. I would like a new motorcycle but can't afford 20,000. Do I think they are worth that much? (Well if I had 20,000 I would buy one)
I can't afford 24 for a case of Pilsner Urquell but I think it is worth it.
A simple legit question would have been "How do you arrive at the price for a computer game?" If a person already has prices ranges they will tolerate and price ranges they think insane they are not asking you a question when they post their opinion.
They are allowed to post but they must be prepared for the response.
Posting something in this manner in a forum for persons who have clearly paid the price is insulting. It's simple.
You paid 69 and are being told that 69 is insane. And we are being told the value of the game by a person who has never even played it.
My own feeling after reading that first post was "Oh no, another troll"

A easy way to ask the question would have been

"You guys paid 69 for this game, was it worth it?"

Oh boy, Ultima Online. Hours of trying to grandmaster mining. click on the the pick, click on the rock, click on the pick, click on the rock. I said in another thread in this forum one time my kid thought I was insane when I told her it would take me 6 months real time to grandmaster taming, one skill of many [X(]. Took me 3 years to max everyone out. So, i can truly understand what you WiTP fanboys are talking about [:)]. I'm looking at October before I can get enough $$$ to buy it. [8|]. BTW Knavey, I made it to 95 mining before I couldn't take it anymore [:D][:D][:D][:D]
